German Pancakes With Apple Slices

Today I have made German Pancakes With Apple Slices. This recipe is being requested by a fellow hubber Mama Kim 8. I´m thankful to her because it´s a long time ago that I have eaten this delicious meal.

My mother-in-law taught me how to make this meal 30 years ago when I was still new in Germany. She told me a long time ago that she made this basic pancake recipe in the time of the second world war. When margarine, butter, sugar and flour were hard to find. She bartered the eggs and milk from the farm with something she had, which she did not use anymore. She used to make this for lunch time in the middle of the week when she was still alive.

In the years of making these pancakes, I made my own measurement and I used a lot of options to create something new for myself.

For me, pancake was only for a snack but as times went by, I was beginning to make this for lunch or for supper time for a change of menu. Besides that I did not need much to make these pancakes. Almost all the ingredients are always in the kitchen cupboard.

Frying Pan

I have one of this kind of a non-stick frying pan, the one with a teflon. It's indeed awesome to have this as it will not destroy the form of the food that I am frying.

Add apple slices for the German Pancakes with Apple Slices.

What else you need:

  1. Frying pan
  2. Weighing scale
  3. Electric mixer
  4. Sieve
  5. Bowl
  6. Frying ladle
  7. Tablespoon

You can fry the basic German pancake without putting the apple slices on top of it.

Electric Mixer

Having a stand electric mixer is the best for a wife in the kitchen. My stand electric mixer is of great help to me. I can leave it alone mixing the dough while I prefer something else for my baking. It is a must have in the kitchen.

German Pancakes With Apple Slices

  1. Sieve the 300 grams of flour with the tablespoon of baking powder in the bowl. Mix well.
  2. Add the 3 eggs, 100 gram of sugar and the milk. Mix well with the electric mixer. Taste the dough so you will know the sweetness of it. Add more sugar if you want to. If you don´t have electric mixer just mix it well with a wooden spoon.
  3. Wash and peel the apple. Cut it in 4 parts and slice the apple in length size.
  4. Heat the frying pan in a medium heat. Put a desire amount of margarine.
  5. Add the dough just enough to fill the sides of the pan. Put the apple slices on top of the unfinish pancake. Wait until the lower side is golden brown then turn the pancake upside down. The pancake is ready when both sides are golden brown.
  6. This recipe can make up to 8 pieces. Enjoy the pancake while it is still warm. Guten Appetit!
