Introduction

Garlic and onions fall within the same alum group of herbs. They've both medicinal and nutritional. Both have been used for over a thousand years. They impact flavour of meals, but are mostly used for medicinal and preservative values.

In this article, I will show you how. Though, other ways exist.

Diet Emitting Gases

Soybean is my favourite legume protein. I regularly eat the stuff day or night. At odd times, I scoop two or three tablespoonfuls of the delicious bean into a plate as a side dish. This complements the vegetable part of the protein. This also made me pass gas regularly. The experience is terrifying. No medication has helped me. As everyone knows, beans are a very nutritious and delicious food. Because it always emits gas or runs the bowels, some people do away with this bodybuilding foodstuff. Normally, everyone emitted some gas. Whatever one eats, some gas is sure to pass out. But eating bean meals makes it terrific.

Garlic contains prebiotics. This greatly benefits the gut during digestion. Along with onions, they contain Sulphur compounds. Both are essential for culinary use.

Don't ever overuse both garlic and onions. Besides the positive health benefits, they can produce a seriously negative reaction.

Eating Beans with Green Leafy Vegetables

But beans specific, white beans can be cooked with green leafy vegetables. It's very delicious and nutritious. It can help prevent gas formation.
That said, you can't do that with soybeans. It'll give an unpalatable taste. Soya beans are best eaten alone, or with a root vegetable like potato or yam. You can Savoury it with custard. Rice, being a cereal, is good to go along with it. So is plantain, the cooking banana.

Eating Garlic

My adventure in eating various herbs and spices made me eat garlic because I understand it helps lower blood pressure, is anti-cancerous, wards off, and prevents other diseases. Garlic is mostly known and used as a medicine. However, it is one of the best herbs to use in the kitchen. It is the 'queen of the herbs'. It can be eaten fresh and raw. But the mouth and breath emit a bad odour. Instead, roast it half done and eat it. Or used it in cooking to preserve the meal. Garlic is a natural preservative.

For example, I've prepared white beans overnight to be used for making bean cookies or bean balls, a delicious African meal locally called Akara. I ground the bean and preserve it with ground garlic for some 12 hours. It remains fresh ever.

You can dry the fresh garlic, ground it into a powder form, and preserve it in an airtight container. Add half a teaspoon into your custards and keep your body warm during cold weather. There are many things to do with this queen of herbs to preserve good health and longevity.

Observation

Fortunate for me, I observed that I do not pass out gases regularly as before eating garlic. I deliberately stopped eating garlic as a control measure. But I continue to eat my Soybean. Almost unexpectedly, the emission of gas began. And when I start eating garlic again, the gassing stops. This led me to conclude that Garlic has an element or ingredient in it that stops gas from the intestines.

However, the main theme of the story centred on how to stop the dirty smell when you answer the call of nature. Some use air freshers to spread the small restroom. This will not solve the problem. I will show you how here. Eating garlic with your meals regularly is the answer.

Garlic Onion Recipe

I soon began to look for a recipe for solving this phenomenon. I remember I used to cut a thumb-size slice of onions for my 2 years old girl regularly when in the kitchen cooking. Not only that, but I also noted her stool did not give out an offensive odour. This in addition to my experience with garlic helps me conclude again that both work similarly, and either can enhance the other when combined. Both garlic and onions are alum vegetables and have the potency to stop the dirty smell when nature calls you.

I combined the two herbs with other ingredients mentioned in the story and noted the results. For two days, I did not pass out gas when eating soybeans. Also, when answering nature's call, no characteristic obnoxious smell is emitted as is common. I then conclude that the answer to my question is at hand. It is the garlic-onion recipe.

Anupam, you're welcomed. India is one country with the best dish in the world. I have a friend here from India who is lately introducing me to juice recites. I have make mte of the dish. Thanks.

Anupam Mitu from MUMBAI on June 15, 2020:

I belong to state Bihar of India and there we have such delicious food prepared by our mothers that I long for them when I am not with my mother. Whatever she cooks is a blessing for us, the most important ingredient used there is pure mother's love. but there are many recipes which is famous world wide. I don't know whether you have heard about Litti Chokha, Sattu Paratha, several sweets, like khaja, balushahi. All the names might be alien to you but if you will come to know how they taste then, I bet you will have to come to taste it.

I will share another recipe of yam.

cut it into pieces as you have done for your recipe

Then mix turmeric and salt in it and bit of other spices like chilli, ginger- garlic paste, cumin seeds if you want it spicy (we love that)

Fry that or bake it as per your taste and health

Now take two onions, few garlic cloves, tomato, chilli and mix them in the grinder.

Put one spoon of oil in the frying pan, add a pinch of cumin seeds, mustard seeds, bay leaf , when they change colour, add the onion paste and fry it for some time, till the onion changes into red colour and then add some water to it. This is the gravy, let it boil for sometime and then add the fried yam into it.

oh so tasty it is, I feel like having it just now.

Thank you Miebakagh for showing your interest.

If you liked this I can share a few others.

But what I know, people outside India don't want to have spicy food because of several reasons.

Anupam Mitu from MUMBAI on June 14, 2020:

Looks delicious! I will try some day. Thanks for sharing. My mother also cooks yam but in a little different way.

She boils the yam and then smash it. A pinch of salt, mustard oil (though the people avoid this, I love mustard oil), lemon juice, chilli, coriander is added to it. And it looks so tasty!

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on June 07, 2020:

Brenda, I agreed with you. The garlic/onion complex diet is primarily therapical. And adding garlic and onions to your cooking pot always is good. But does that eliminate the offensive odour during stool ? The answer is no. So a special treat is okay. I chew a lobe or two garlic with my cup of warm tea always. Thanks.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on June 07, 2020:

Hey, Louise, you are welcomed. The meal should be taken twice in the week and on consequent days 1 and 2. This will give the best result. If taken on days 3, and 4 again, it results in a running stomach. Garlic-onion is a strong medicine, not just a food. Okay, heat the kettle and pour the tea. Let the benefits flow. Thanks for reading my article.

Louise Powles from Norfolk, England on September 25, 2018:

This sounds really nice. I love garlic and onions. And, of course, a cup of tea is always good. I'm going to put the kettle on now. =)

Hello, Bede, thanks for stopping by and commenting. Yes, garlic as a medicinal herb is versatile. A synthetic of it has been made by the pharmaceutical industry for cervical or virginal cancer. I regularly take it as a roasted herb with tea at breakfast. Thank you, and have a nice time.

Bede from Minnesota on September 06, 2018:

This is quite a discovery, Miebakagh. You’ve now discovered two remedies - the other being unripe mango and fish for d.m. Garlic is good for preventing the common cold, among other things, which is why some Minnesotans eat it winter. Apparently, pickling garlic is a way to reduce breath issues, though I’ve never tried it.

Miebakagh Fiberesima (author) from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on September 01, 2018:

Hi, Liz Westwood, yes being unusual, I recommended it be tested even on a trial basis for just a week. After just two days of the trial as suggested, you will realize that for the next two days, answering nature's call would not disturb you will the offending smells. Thanks for passing by and commenting.

Liz Westwood from UK on September 01, 2018:

This is an unusual and interesting recipe.

Ruth Coffee from Zionsville, Indiana on September 01, 2018:
