I'm so happy that the facts have helped you out dwachira! I used to store tomatoes in my fridge as well because I like cold tomatoes, but knowing that they could last so much longer (exact times for fridge and counter is listed on my Shelf Life hub article) on my counter is definitely reason to keep them out!

Fun facts about fruits and veggies. I didn't know about storing an apple with potatoes or that carrots were purple at one time! I learn a few new facts. Great hub!

Hi Neinahpets,

I must say i did not know most of these facts, i now know why i should not store tomatoes in a refrigerator anymore. [Keep stored potatoes from sprouting by storing them with a fresh apple.] It is the first one that caught my attention. Great reading, voted up, interesting and shared.

That's definitely one way to look at it drpennypincher!

I like apples a lot, but I like coffee even more. I guess coffee could count as a fruit product since coffee beans are seeds of coffee cherries...

Yes, lemonkerdz, it really is surprising just what you can discover doing a little research. I've learned so much lately reading about fruits and vegetables and their benefits.

Thank you for your great words and vote! Much appreciated!

lemonkerdz from LIMA, PERU on March 20, 2013:

Thanks for the helpful hub Neinahptes there are some really good tips and information to get anyone eating more fruit and veg. I have been amazed doing research for some of my hubs, just how many different foods can help to control cancer. We were created to eat fresh food so it stands to reason it would always be better for us to peel & cut, rather than open and pour from an aluminium can or from some other packaging.

Voted up :-)

Hi vibesites! Thank you so much for your interest and share... oh, and the many votes!

Yes, when I first heard that bananas were just a "berry" of the banana tree I was taken aback. It's so amazing to find out these new things! I did not know that bamboo trees were considered to be grass and not true trees! I have learned something new as well, thank you!

vibesites from United States on March 20, 2013:

Very interesting and practical information! It's a lot fun to read and I learn something new.

Banana "trees" are herbs? Maybe because they're not woody unlike trees and do not have branches. Makes sense. Just like a bamboo tree which is actually not a tree but a grass.

Thanks for posting! Up and awesome, interesting, and shared. :)
