Crock Pot BBQ Turkey Chops

Please Let Me And Others Know What You Think

So, Why This?

In our home, we steer clear of pork and I have been required to find a better alternative. That is when I discovered this amazing recipe for the slow cooker and performed a couple of substitutes and removed a couple of other items and viola! An amazing and tasty dish that is sure to have people asking for seconds.

Many times, people are thrown by the idea that this is cooked in a slow cooker and requires little to no effort. Then to add the shock that I use turkey tenderloin/breast/chops in place of pork and I immediately seal the deal. The flavor is amazing and requires little to no effort. While I am sure if someone preferred to put even less effort in to the meal and just dump a bottle of BBQ sauce on top that it would turn out fairly good, that isn't my style. I like adding different things to compliment and create an amazing flavor sure to make people think that this meal has been slaved over for hours. I also find that little additions can enhance the flavor and make it even more amazing.

Another great thing is, while I do work from home, I normally am not able to cook dinner on time or have the time to slave over the stove at various hours throughout the day. It is best for me to have something I can toss in the slow cooker before my day begins and that can cook throughout the day while I work and doesn't require any additional attention from me. Still, to do this, I require the food must taste amazing. That is one of the reasons I absolutely am in love with this recipe. Not only does it have a mind-blowing taste, but it also leaves our home smelling wonderful throughout the day and only needs a couple of minutes to toss together some sides before it is ready to serve.

Another wonderful thing about this meal is that while I have a group of picky eaters in my home, this seems to answer the demands for a great meal and doesn't meet with any hesitation when they smell it cooking! I hope everyone can enjoy this as much as our family!

8 servings

  • 8 turkey chops/tenderloins/breasts
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 bottle BBQ Sauce, (Your favorite, we prefer Jack Daniels Original)
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 c. Cola
  • 2 tsp. Brown Sugar
  • 3 tbsp. grape jelly
  • 1 med. onion

How To Prepare

  1. Lightly spray the slow cooker or line with a slow cooker liner.
  2. In a small sauce pan, turn the stove top on low, and combine all ingredients, minus the meat.
  3. Place a single layer of chops/tenderloins/breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker. (Note: If you can place all in without having to layer on top, go ahead)
  4. Cover with the sauce mixture and onion. Then continue to repeat layering until all eight are in the slow cooker and all the BBQ sauce mixture has been poured in.
  5. Cover and cook on low 6-8 hours, or until the meat is tender.

So, It's Done. What Goes With It?

While you can add a few red potatoes and carrots in the slow cooker to cook with the meal (especially if you are crunched for time), I prefer to serve with sour cream mashed potatoes, sauteed carrots, and grilled bbq asperagus. The truth is, this meal does well with many things, especially any style of potatoes. It is simple and requires a simple side to compliment it.

A small side salad, some roasted potatoes, and corn on the cob are also great. If it is one of the rare occasions when we are having bread with our meal, I will either include cottage cheese crescent rolls, yeast rolls or artisean bread. It just depends on the time I have to prep the meal and if we are entertaining guests.

I have also discovered that a small mixture of shitake mushrooms, a little bit of diced onions sauteed in a little beef broth, a touch of Jack Daniels, and a touch of soy sauce makes an amazing addition.

Speaking of Jack Daniels, if you really want to add a little more flavor to the meal, add some Jack Daniels or a little of your favorite beer into the bbq mixture before pouring it over the chops, it really helps to bring out the flavor!
