Tater Tot Casserole

I think most of us have a favorite meal/meals from our childhood. The combination of treasured family memories & savory meals, seem to engrain certain recipe's in our mind that remain with us throughout our lives.

Tater Tot Casserole is one such memory that reminds me of my mother. She had five children to feed, so she learned to throw together some pretty fantastic meals that didn't take long. This is also one of those recipes that you can usually find the ingredients on hand and skip a trip to the store.

I hope you enjoy my childhood version of Tater Tot Casserole. The milk, sour cream and cheese make this a creamy sensation that will fill up the hungriest of eaters.

Meg, you haven't lived until you've had tater tots. If you like any type of potato, you'll love them. If not using them in a casserole, you just make them on a baking sheet and serve them as a side potato.

That sounds different but very delicious. I love that the first person to know this recipe is from Minnesota. We love our casserole's, don't we?

My trick with the tater tots: arrange them only on top of casserole where they become crisp and brown. Some recipe's put them in layers, but they fall apart that way. They taste way better crispy.

Hi John, no way! you haven't tried this either? I live in Minnesota where it's a staple here. I love that the ingredients have meat, potatoes and vegetables all in one. Let me know if you try it. I promise, you'll love it.

Hi Chitrangada, I am so surprised so many haven't tried this recipe. We in the colder climates love making hot casserole dishes. It's a delicious and filling meal. You have to try it and get back to me.

That's an interesting recipe. I do not know what tater tots are, though, or even potato gems. Looked up tater tots, so now I know what they are and I have never had these, nor seen anything like them. Look interesting. Maybe try them sometime along with the casserole.

Here, in southern Minnesota (!!) I made it with a can of chili hot beans... Same, but different. Almost had that chili cheese fries taste...
