How to make your own rumchata

If you ever partied with any Hispanics , you'll know that Horchata is a big thing in the Salvadorean and the Mexican territory. Boricuas (Puerto Ricans) have the coquito, a Spanish eggnog used around the holidays with a good amount of white rum such as Bacardi.Black Caribbeans have the rum punch, a punch of natural fruits and spices with dark rum

Rumchata is a very sweet drink. If sweetness is not for you, you might have to go with an alternative. The ingredients of this drink are pretty hefty to say the least.

The basic recipe for Horchata is this:

Basically, take a big pan and mix all your main ingredients together: rice, water and cinnamon stick. You basically set that aside for a few hours then put it all in a big pot and boil it really well, so everything meshes together. Allow your mix to cool. It's your choice to use a Puree rice mixture or something to add more thickness to horchata, you can use a blender to really smooth it out. Then you serve on chill. That's a basic recipe for making your horchata. There are countless you can make it depending on where you are from, or your particular taste.

You can take an empty liquor and pour horchata a little over halfway. Now for the kicker! Take a white rum such as Bacardi or something used well for mixers, and pour about 1/3 or even half a bottle depending on how strong you want your Rumchata to taste. You definitely want a good amount of rum because the horchata is very sweet that you might not even really feel the alcohol in there. Seeing as horchata has milk, it's best to keep it in the fridge and try your best to finish it as soon as possible, so it doesn't spoil. Another thing about horchata is a lot of the ingredients seep to the bottom. Make sure you shake it up really well every time you go to pour your cup or glass =). For more rum based drinks, you can check out the rum section of Great Cocktail Recipes or even scroll down some of the tags and find dark rum, white rum and overproof rum. Thanks!

Good recipe. I have never heard of this, but it sounds delicious. I will have to check if I can get this in South Korea, as it is harder to find things, but this sounds awesome.
