Can Art be Food

Food in art form or is art food?

What is your opinion on Food can be Art?

In the modern era, preparing food as art is consumed by those who know the meaning of food art and for when dining in style.

Filippo Tommaso Marinetti came up with this idea in 1909 in Milan.

Cooking every day has become a focus on ideas and to make food important to our lives.

You can’t go without eating and eating is your life.

Food is important to everyone and creating food to look attractive entices you to eat more and healthy.

A number of recipes were published in this Futurist Cookbook by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in 1932.

He gave a view of food to the people in consumption and in special preparation.

Perfect meals were prepared in the most creative of ways and eaten without political discussions.

Restaurants in the era of Marinetti were opened as art projects.

In this event food preparation in combination of chocolate and cheese were crafted into sculptures.

I see food as art!

Food has always been presented colorful, and decorative on platters.

In ancient times painters used food ingredients in their Stone Age artwork.

Egyptians combined crops and bread on hieroglyphic tablets.

Facial expressions crafted from fruit, flowers, and vegetables were painted in Royal Court Prague, and in Habsburg court in Vienna.

I consider food as art as I use it in many creative ways in a starter, main course and a dessert. I try to make my meals attractive and appetizing to my family.

In cooking, cutting the vegetables, or ingredients for salads a chef shows a passion for cooking food.

To garnish and for when it is time to serve the meal, it must be most attractive.

Food requires spicing, and taste.

Sculptures crafted from food make food look unique.

An artist is passionate about food and creates new features to make food creative.

Decorating food ideas is interesting, different, and is best when you put the effort in doing that.

You need to survive and food is life itself.

Most people do not look at food beyond survival rate.

Anything that is thought of art requires time, love and patience and a passion in cooking food.

I noticed that not many people are interested nor capable of cooking a good plate of food.

Often I hear of them just want to make a quick meal, but with not much thought or effort spoken of the ideas of food or cooking it.

The way people think of food is not much of a concern.

It bothers me when people take food for granted.

I find this surprising that most people do not see food as art

Great tasting food is a fine treat of human art.

The special taste of food is the specific way to know food.

It doesn’t matter how small or big of a platter the food is, such creation is consumed quickly and has no lasting value.

The memory is with you, of the food and the recipe can’t be bought.

Some would go to great lengths to obtain the best food.

Chefs prepare meals for you to see the color, and creativeness it has to offer. This enhances the presentation of any menu.

Kids play with food and create happy faces and the idea of making such presentations tells you food is art.

What do you think about food?

Can food be art?

Food is what we need but are you capable of cooking a delicious meal in the form of art?

What does food do for you?

Food brings people together.

Families, and good friends come together over a meal.

It is highly recommended to eat a good restaurant.

You cook for your families and compare your recipes to other recipes.

Food creates good friendships.

Serving food creates a great atmosphere.

The different aromas of food are what you need to show off your skills in the kitchen.

The way you cut your vegetables and fruit and spice your food explains your passion for food.

Herbs cooked in most meals are unique.

All senses tell you about the food in its own form.

Some of you would say the food is not art and others would say the food is art.

I see food as art and enjoy experimenting with new recipes.

Food is precious, tasty, and gives you a different perspective on life and you can’t do without it.

You use food in experiments, to entertain guests and to make sure food is available daily.

Food is used to express yourself.

A creation of food is presented creatively and consists of many elements to apply an image of art to food.

You can enjoy food in many ways and trials.

The question is how do you see food as art or is art food?

On many levels food has its own image.

The growth of food, the way one eats food, cooks food, presents food and the knowledge of food is incredible to one’s mind when placed in front of them.

For some people food can be made into art and for a few foods is just food.

Chefs create thoughts about food and a way of art for food.

manatita44 Thank you for sharing that. I appreciate your information about food in its form. Interesting about such restaurants. Food is art and when presented in a different way is appealing.

I like how you explore the artistry and sublimity of food, bringing in not only its culinary but visual qualities. I'm not a delectable artist,, but I can appreciate your contribution here with a pinch of history as well.

El Bullo in Spain was the world's number 1 Restaurant for many years. I think the owner sold the business and opened an Institute for teaching food.

"Annam Brahma." Food is God, as has been said by my spiritual teacher. We also have a vegetarian restaurant with that name in Jamaica, Queens, NY. Lovely Article with some cute pieces of art.

Adrienne Farricelli on September 30, 2020:

Food is truly an art form and some foods are so pretty you may even feel bad to eat it. My mom is from Sicily and there is a lot of art in the food there.

Hi Mary Nice of you to share of your food presentatio as in art. A little of time can have you a lovely presentation of food. Thank you

Mary Norton from Ontario, Canada on September 23, 2020:

Recently, we had dinner with a friend who took the time to make her table and food look sensational. I enjoyed eating the food. I find that it tasted much better. Yesterday, I prepared lunch and took the trouble of looking at colors and presentation, and we all enjoyed it. I seldom do this because I am often lazy but it does make a difference.

Hello Chitrangada Sharan Thank you for sharing a great comment. I appreciate your time invested at my hubs.Food is art and creative minds make this possible.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on September 22, 2020:

Interesting article.

I do believe that presentation of the food is an art. A delicious recipe, if not presented in a creative way, may not be as interesting. As they say, you eat with your eyes first.

Thanks for sharing this excellent article on a unique subject.

Dora thank you very much for stopping by, take care.

Food in art form, like the images in your picture, is beautiful to look at. I congratulate the artists and I congratulate you too, for introducing this subject.

Nithya Venkat Thank you for pointing that out food as art and not to be eaten. Interesting thought and something to ponder on from this hub. I appreciate your comment.

Nithya Venkat from Dubai on September 19, 2020:

The art of making food is art itself. I admire how people work with food to make intricate art pieces but I love food just as food to eat. Once food becomes an art piece then you will want to admire it and not eat it! Now there is a dilemma!

Devika Primić (author) from Dubrovnik, Croatia on September 18, 2020:

Hi Dale Anderson Thank you for sharing your experience with food. Sometimes food needs to look appealing to you. I appreciate your support.

Ankita B I appreciate you stopping by thank you very much.

Dale Anderson from The High Seas on September 17, 2020:

I like and appreciate the skill that goes into making food art, but I would never eat it. In fact, if I go to a restaurant and they bring me out 'complicated' food that I need to 'deconstruct' to eat, I send it back and cancel my order. But maybe I'm just a fussy old man?

Ankita B on September 17, 2020:

This is an interesting article. Presenting food as art creatively is truly pleasing to the eyes. It was an enjoyable read.

Liz, Thank you kindly for stopping by. It is what makes food appealing to the eyes of us. I appreciate your comments.

Denise Thank you for sharing that. I think food is art for all the reasons as you have mentioned.

Denise McGill from Fresno CA on September 16, 2020:

When we eat we don't just use the taste and smell but the eyes too. If something doesn't look appetizing it won't taste all that appetizing. Food is an art as you say.

Blessings,

Denise

Liz Westwood from UK on September 16, 2020:

This is an interesting subject. Some top chefs turn food into an art form. Over the years the importance of presentation has increased. Your illustrations are great.

Rajan Singh Jolly from From Mumbai, presently in Jalandhar, INDIA. on September 15, 2020:

Creative food art but sometimes the creation is so good you do not feel like eating it. Cooking good food is certainly an art and proper food display whips up the appetite. Great article.

Linda Crampton from British Columbia, Canada on September 15, 2020:

Food isn't art in my home at the moment, but I have seen some lovely food art outside the home. The creations in your photos are very interesting.

Art created by food can create lovely memories. I remember a castle built out of cake and candy that my mother created for my sister's birthday, It looked so nice that we didn't want to eat it, though we did eventually. Thank you for reminding me of it, Devika.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on September 15, 2020:

I'm afraid I eat it too fast for it to have any art value. :) But I loved this article.

I like the concept and have seen some stunning cakes. The funniest thing I’ve seen is a cake that resembled a litter box complete with tootsie roll “cat turds.”

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on September 14, 2020:

A very fun read. I had no idea it is so popular. Really cool stuff.

My boy and I made little hamster cakes for our little hamster yesterday. they were so bad we erased the pictures ;-)

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on September 14, 2020:

Most chefs give equal thought to the way a meal appears as much as to the flavor of the meal. Yes, artfully prepared food is as pleasing to the eye as to the stomach.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on September 14, 2020:

I guess I haven't thought much about food being art, but I like what your wrote. I tend to make more attractive dishes around the holidays and I think it is art. I think most meals are not fancy but I try to make healthy food. This is an interesting concept, Devika.
