Why Love Yogurt

Yogurt is everywhere. At my local grocery store there are shelves and shelves of different yogurt products and brands of almost every possible taste that you can imagine. The variety is almost too much to take in. But who is really eating all of this yogurt and why are they eating it? With this many different types out there that have such a loyal fan base, there must be some very good reasons for all this yogurt. But what is it? Why do so many people love yogurt so much?

It's not just a fad or a trend or the 'in thing', it has gone way beyond that. Yogurt has become such a beloved food that it has now a staple item on the shopping list of many people, right up there next to bread and milk.

There's some very good reasons that grocery stores are willing to give up so much of their precious shelf space for just this one product. People buy it and keep buying it and have been buying it for a long time. Let's take a look at some of the reasons why.

Yogurt Is A Convenient Snack

In a busy world, full of busy people, living busy lives, it is all too common for us to grab something quick to eat. Unfortunately, one of those things that is quick and convenient is the fast food burger. You eat it but you know it isn't any good for you and you feel a little guilty for doing it. But it is cheap and oh so handy because there's a fast food joint on just about every corner. So it's easy enough to make you do it regularly. Now ask yourself a simple question, do you feel good after you have eaten one of those cheap, greasy burgers?

That's where yogurt comes in. It is also cheap and easy and it even comes in it's own little bowl, often with a little spoon for you to eat it with. But is it cheap? You bet it is. Wow so that is two of the things on our checklist covered, yogurt is both cheap and convenient. Oh if only it could be healthy for us to! Well good news, yogurt actually is healthy to eat. In fact, many people consider yogurt so healthy that they have made it part of their daily diet.

We'll cover some more specifics of just how healthy this wonder food is later in this article. Right now we'll move on to the all important question of taste.

Yogurt As A Meal

Yogurt is a great snack but it can also be a filling meal too. For example, it can make a satisfying breakfast that starts your day off on the right foot, if you mix it with the right foods. My wife, for instance, loves to wake up and enjoy a bowl or a cup of yogurt mixed with her favorite granola. She usually washes it down with a home made fruit smoothy but I prefer coffee myself.

Recently we started topping off a variety of yogurt flavors with coconut shavings, crushed nuts and dried fruit. Yipee is that a good meal! Try it for yourself and be your own judge.

Does yogurt really help you manage and reduce your high blood pressure? Well, according to WebMD, a recent study followed more than 5,000 Spanish graduates for about two years and found a link between dairy and yogurt consumption and high blood pressure results. The study concluded that yogurt could indeed help reduce your blood pressure and help you keep it under control. Not bad since this is one of the most common health ailments many people suffer today.

Yogurt is a versatile food, so much so that it can even be made into some tasty deserts. You probably think "oh yeah, I've had frozen yogurt before and it is wonderful!" To be honest, I am not much of a desert person but I do enjoy that particular delight very much.

Take the photo of the Blueberry yogurt soufflé with vanilla ice cream pictured above, for example. That creative idea should prove to you that yogurt is an amazingly versatile food that you can enjoy in a lot of different ways. Enjoy it.

Peggy we must have the same tastebuds then because I like unsweetened and use fruit instead of sugar too. My wife likes yogurt and granola as one of her favorite snacks.

We do prefer the unsweetened varieties of Greek yogurt and sweeten it up with natural fruits that are usually berries in our case. It is also a great cooking ingredient in many recipes. Yogurt is a staple ingredient in our refrigerator.

Dale, it should regularly form a part of diet. It helps the bowel floral, besides the health benefit you enjoy. Yogurt enhanced probiotics in the gut. I bought any brand availale and at times use that to make mine with milk overnight. It is indeed a best food that increase longivity.

Patricia I have found myself leaning towards the thicker yogurts in the last few years. I seem to enjoy the body of them more than the thinner, more liquid yogurts that I have tried.
