Authentic Mexican Restaurant Style Salsa Recipe

This Authentic Mexican Restaurant Style Salsa Recipe is super easy to make and ends up tasting just like the courtesy chips and salsa you get when dining at a Mexican Restaurant. It is smooth, has some heat, bursts with flavor and is sure to please a crowd. It's a really great copycat! It's not exact, but really darn close. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does.

Authentic Mexican Restaurant Style Salsa Recipe



  • 28 oz canned peeled whole tomatos, drained
  • 2 cans Rotel tomatoes with green chilis or habeneros, drained
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, peeled and chopped
  • 3-4 Serrano peppers, chopped
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 Lime, Fresh squeezed
  • 1 bunch cilantro, chopped
  • 1-2 white or yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Chili Powder

Salsa Tip

If you like extra spicy salsa swap the two cans of diced tomatoes and chili's with two cans of diced tomatoes and habanero peppers. Also, swap out the Jalapeno pepper for a green or red chili pepper. For flaming hot use a Habanero pepper.

Make sure to fully drain extra juice from the canned ingredients, if you don't it gets way to soupy, and refreezing for eating later will not taste good AT ALL.

Make sure you have water when enjoying this salsa batch! By far my favorite way to make it.

Make your salsa!

  1. Combine all ingredients into a food processor until blended. Serve immediately. Store extra in freezer air tight containers up to 2 months.

This looks truly fabulous - and easy, too. I think that the trick with salsa is getting the balance right between the heat and the flavor. I believe in making salsa hot but not so hot that you lose the flavors. This recipe looks as if it will get that right. Many thanks. :)
