Lets start

Beer is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks in the world and has a wide clientage. If figures have a meaning it's the third most popular drink after water and tea. How is beer made? It is brewed from cereal grains—most commonly from malted barley, though wheat, maize, and rice are also used. Don't forget it's an alcoholic beverage and that is essential otherwise it would lose all its élan.

Beer in ALL cases is taken chilled and many connoisseurs have opined it is the perfect antidote to heat. Entire Southeast Asia is a tropical land and the months of June to July are pretty hot. This is the time you could do with a cooler. Not a fruit juice but something that sets your imagination going and fertilizes your brain. This is where beer comes in.

June and July are the months that herald the heat. It is mid-summer and temperatures can soar. It's the same in Southern USA in particular Texas and California. Its hot all-around heat and a chilled can or bottle of beer is an excellent anti-dote to thwart the rising temperature.

Beer and Company

Now I come to the contentious part. Many will not agree with me but my take is that you can't really enjoy a good beer without good company. If you don't have a proper company it will be something like a fish without water. You will need companions and what better than your wife or girlfriend or an old pal to help you pass the hot afternoon. That would be a good company. All in all, beer is a great refresher and along with good food is an excellent pastime. If I have a choice I would choose a girlfriend.

Beer and that Extra

Combinations with Beer

Many a beer drinker, will experiment to charm his girl and create an impression that he knows a lot about beer. Beer drinkers may refine their drinks and some may down it with lemonade. This is what is called the 'shandy'.But then you may try some other combinations as well in case the original taste of beer does not appeal to you or you just want to experiment. Thus your innovations can include a chilled glass of beer with Ginger ale or tonic and maybe even a cola. Tastes that can become exotic.

There are other combinations also that can be tried. As an example, you can douse beer with a shot of whisky or southern comfort. The taste will thrill you and you could spin out outlandish yarns like the day you shot the rogue elephant. In fact, anything will go. It is so infectious.

If you want to try something more exotic then a combination of beer 60ml vodka and sugar syrup laced with lemon and ice cubes is excellent. This is often called the ‘skip and go naked' drink. Lace it with a shot of gin and the heat will just dissipate. Moreover, you will love the tangy taste and so will your companion.

Well, the name of the game is to enjoy and charm your companion. In case your girl is impressed and she relishes what you have served I think you are going to be a. winner. Maybe after a few drinks /glasses, she could cuddle up in your arms on the sunbed and continue the drink. Can't think of anything better than this.

Food to go with Beer

You will need good food with the beer you guzzle. Anything will go with beer but salads, shellfish, poultry, and meat or even some spicy food like a chicken tikka will add zest to your beer-drinking session. You can also try a Pizza with its many combinations along with ham or cheese. You could even try fried prawns and roasted meats. Everything goes with good beer. Beer is a great appetizer and you tend to eat more with exotic beer.

Last Word

When you are settled comfortably you come to the last step. Sip the beer slowly and relish the taste. Let the froth settle and then drink from the mug. Keep spare bottles chilled and handy and have a refill as and when in the mood. Let a good butler serve you the accompaniment of the food. Most important it is a catalyst to good company and in the end, you will feel it is an afternoon well spent.

If there is a pool nearby and your companion is not having any inhibitions it is great fun if you could jump into the cool water with your glass of beer and that would be double fun.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on December 20, 2020:

In Houston, we have quite a few micro-breweries that make flavorful blends. My husband and I drink more wine than beer, but I agree that sharing it with friends is the best way to enjoy any kind of alcoholic drink.

Your article was spot on, MG. There is no better drink to quench the thirst and cool you on a hot day..and here in Australia we have many of those. Our summer Christmas is the perfect time.

I agree though beer needs good company to make it enjoyable, it is very lacking to drink it alone.

My mother used to love a shandy. I prefer a dry ale myself. I have tried one beer with a dash of lime that is quite refreshing too.

Enjoyable article.
