Pumpkin, not just for carving!
When most people think of pumpkins, all the ever really think of is Halloween! Pumpkins carved in to Jack'o'lanterns with goulash faces or scary masks. In the UK where I live you often can't get pumpkins outside of the Halloween season, they come into the supermarkets at the beginning of October and are gone by mid November, so people really don't tend to think of them as a food, even though they are!! The are around so rarely that they simply become a novelty item, and few people ever actually cook one!
But there is so much more you can do with a pumpkin!! They are sweet and rich in taste, bursting with flavours! Although in actually fact I have had very little chance to try eating pumpkin in many dishes, when I have been lucky enough to find it and try it, I have loved it! I often manage to find it in dishes alongside sweet potato, butter nut squash or goats cheese and there always work so well with it.
I really want to try making a sweet dish with pumpkin though, and that is what led me on my search for pumpkin bread/cake recipes. I have been all over the internet and found 5 recipes from varies amazing cooks that I would just love to try. So you will find photos and all the links to these recipes on this post - none of the images are my own, they all belong to the sites they are linked to and the talented chefs who developed them.

Ever tried Pumpkin Bread?
1. Pull-Apart Cinnamon Sugar Pumpkin Bread
I found this really tasty looking recipe on a fun and colourful blog called Sunny Side Up (link under image). She is a new mummy who loves nothing more than cooking meals from scratch and developing exciting new recipes. This tear and share bread looks perfect for a family get together or a Halloween party. I imagine it has just the right amount of stickiness on the top to make it totally moorish! Yum!
2. Pumpkin Cream Cheese Bread
Nom, nom, nom! I think this bread might be one of the ones I would be unable to stop eating! That creamy cheesy centre with the sweet grainy bread all around it, oh my! I think I would probably sit and eat the entire loaf, it looks divine! And I wouldn't feel guilty about all the calories either! 3. Grain Free Pumpkin Bread with Caramel Glaze
The picture of this bread was just too good to resist! All that dribbling caramel just looks so yummy! I found this recipe on a paleo blog called Primally Inspired, you will find the link under the picture. This recipe uses no grain so is 100% natural, making it super healthy - but still tasty and a little indulgent! If you are on a paleo diet check out her site as she has loads of other great paleo recipes!
4. Honey Walnut Pumpkin Bread
I love walnuts! Actually I love nuts in general, and a good nutty or grainy bread is just perfect. I think the combination of walnuts and pumpkin sounds totally yummy, i can imagine the sweetness of pumpkin being nicely off set by the crunch of the walnuts. This recipe was found on Whole Foods Market (link under image) and you will find tonnes more healthy recipes on their site.

This moist, cake-like pumpkin bread is actually fairly healthy! It is made with the super-food pumpkin, of course, plus olive oil, whole wheat flour and omega-3 eggs. Add nuts, dried cranberries or raisins for even more healthful benefits.
I was surprised this bread/cake even had pumpkin in it, I mean it doesn't look like it does really! And I am a little unsure about the combo of Chocolate and Pumpkin, pumpkin maybe sweet but not as sweet as chocolate - but then I baked a Beetroot and chocolate cake, I had the same ideas about beetroot, that was until I tasted the cake and realised how amazing it was. So now I am converted to the idea of veggies and chocolate in baked products, so really fancy trying out this recipe from Heather Christo (link under image, or her cookbook to the right!) Plus the cinnamon glaze must add a great aroma and spiced taste to it. It kinda feels like this cake would fit well right between halloween and christmas!
