5 Kitchen Appliances That Help With Weight Loss or Maintenance
Okay, perhaps you are wondering how appliances can help me lose weight. Well, if they prevent or divert me from eating high-calorie foods, I consider them weight-loss helpers. These appliances keep me from eating something more decadent, often creating a healthier alternative with minimal effort. Are you wondering what they are?
- Coffee maker
- Air popcorn maker
- Ninja blender
- Deli slicer
- Air fryer
1. Coffee Maker
It does not seem to matter what kind of coffee maker I have, but making a cup of coffee and drinking it is often a calorie saver for me. An article published by the Mayo Clinic indicates that coffee may suppress hunger. Nevertheless, even if it doesn’t, I give coffee credit for preventing me from eating sweets, especially after dinner.
When I sit at the table with friends and family, I need something to do if I do not want to eat dessert. A calorie-free black cup of coffee or even one with some milk and sugar is a lot fewer calories than any dessert I would choose to enjoy. My coffee gives my mouth something to do, so I am not tempted by fattening sweets. Therefore, I have to praise my coffee maker and the ones at restaurants I frequent for keeping me away from decadent desserts. If I drink coffee when others indulge in dessert, I do not feel deprived.
2. Air Popcorn Maker
Well, carbs are fattening, but if I insist on eating them, I may as well choose some that are free of salt, oil, and other items that help pack on the calories. My air popper lets me indulge in a carb snack that is not terrible as carbs go. Usually, I measure out exactly two cups of popcorn after it is popped. The pieces are small enough to eat one at a time so I can maximize my enjoyment of the treat and feel full when I finish.
3. Ninja Blender
Although my Ninja blender can make a wide variety of treats, I use mine for smoothies made with sugar-free almond milk, half a frozen banana, ice, and half a sugar-free yogurt. If I want to splurge, I may throw in a half tablespoon of peanut butter or half a serving of protein powder.
I like the LifeTime Fitness Protein powder (the one sold by LifeTime Fitness gym; you do not have to be a member to buy it), which has only 2 grams of sugar per serving. A thick smoothie can satisfy me for hours and is also excellent if I am in the mood for a frosty treat.
4. Deli Slicer
I have owned my Krups deli slicer for more than 20 years. It is easy to set the thickness of the meat. This is one of the most durable appliances I own. I believe it is no longer made (but it is possible to find pre-owned). I have also had the opportunity to use the Cusimax deli slicer on many occasions. It feels slightly sturdier than the Krups and has a similar design.
A deli slicer is a must-have for using up leftovers. Slicing leftover turkey, roasts, and ham helps it get eaten before it spoils. Cutting your own cold cuts allows you to save money and control the amount of salt on your meat. Those with high blood pressure will find this an excellent tool, and those who want to lose weight will not have cold cuts made with fattening oils or sauces, and the freshly-sliced meat is a step up from going to the deli counter.
As a tip, when using either slicer, I usually slide a piece of foil or parchment under the area where the meat lands when it is cut. This prevents meat scraps from falling on the counter, and it is piled up, ready to wrap.
The pieces of the slicer wipe clean with ease. Sometimes I use a toothpick to loosen meat from the blade.
5 Air Fryer
An air fryer allows you to make crispy foods with no or little oil. Rapidly blowing heat helps crisp up the food making it crunchy and crisp with no or virtually no oil, depending on how you want to prepare your air-fried food. If you do use oil, only use a tiny bit and toss your product with it before placing it in the fryer. Of course, making your food without any oil is the healthiest option of all.
Even if you have limited space, air fryers are available in multiple sizes, so you can find one that meets your storage capabilities. I use my mother's Copper Chef air fryer frequently, and it is simple to clean. Best of all, I use it for frozen and fresh items.
Any or all of these appliances can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle while enjoying food.
