Striking a Balance

Being a stay-at-home mom is one of the most beautiful decisions you've ever made - right? Your dream is to spend time with your little ones, take care of them, and teach them all you want them to know. But on most days, you find yourself feeling tired before the day even starts. You're always exhausted and even feeling a little depressed - but don't feel guilty.

Being a stay-at-home mom comes with its unique challenges, and is surprisingly more tasking than people think. It's easy to get caught up in the endless cycle of changing diapers, feeding your kids, and making sure they don't break the TV or ruin the walls, plus doing house chores and keeping everything in shape. It can all go nuts!

Taking care of everyone except yourself can make you feel frustrated. So how do you strike a balance? We will look at 7 habits that will help you enjoy every waking moment with your little ones and leave you feeling happy with yourself.

1. Create a Daily Routine

Creating a daily routine will help you achieve your tasks for the day and make you feel more productive. Create a to-do list of all you want to accomplish for the day. Start your day with some me-time. Get up early, get dressed, exercise, or pray before attending to the kids. You could do house chores while the kids take a nap. Tick off each task as you get them done. Doing this will make you feel like a badass mom and give you a feeling of happiness and fulfillment.

2. Get Dressed up

Getting dressed up as a stay-at-home mom can feel almost impossible, but resist the temptation to stay in your pajamas all day. While you might feel like you are at home and there is no need to get all dressed up, dressing well sharpens your mind and sets you in the mood to be productive for the day. Take a shower and put on something comfy and presentable. You will feel happier with yourself.

3. Do Something Fun

Being a stay-at-home mom doesn't have to be the end of doing things you love. Carve out time to enjoy a hobby, even if it means just 5 minutes daily. A little goes a long way.

It could be reading a book or watching videos, or painting. You could get the kids to join you in doing something creative and fun too. Also, take time out in the week to hang out with a friend. You will feel accomplished and happier with yourself.

4. Exercise

Doing some physical activity will keep your body and mind in shape and leave you feeling good about yourself. Exercise doesn't have to be strenuous. It could be taking walks with the kids or pets, or dancing while you get chores done around the house. A little physical activity every day helps release negative energy and leaves you feeling healthier.

5. Maintain a Positive Mindset

It is easy to wander with your thoughts, thinking of all the things you've let go of to be a stay-at-home mom. It could be your job or fun activities you used to love. Avoid being hard on yourself. Remind yourself why being a mom is the best decision you made. Think of the moments you will be creating with your kids. Spend quality time with your kids and enjoy every moment.

Sometimes, things can get overwhelming and it becomes extremely difficult to maintain positivity. Remember moms, if you need help processing your emotions, you should not hesitate to see a therapist. Your mental health should always come first.

6. Spend Time With Your Loved Ones

Talk to your loved ones (could be a friend, spouse, or anyone who is near and dear to you) about how your day went. Doing this will make you feel less frustrated knowing you have someone you can open up to. Spend quality time with each other. Enjoy fun activities like playing cards or having dinner together. This will strengthen your relationship with your loved ones and leave you feeling happy.

7. Talk to Other Moms

Being a stay-at-home mom can be socially isolating. Meeting up with other moms will give you the support you need. You can join a mom group and share your strengths and struggles with them. Your kids also get the chance to meet other kids.

Being a mom is one of the noblest jobs in the world. It doesn't have to be overwhelming, although it inevitably can. Avoid being too hard on yourself. Hone your methods of parenting and don't compare yourself with other moms. Practice the above habits and pat yourself on the back. You are an amazing mom.
