Lack of attention

A majority of young children that bite suffer from lack of attention. If your child goes to daycare they may be biting due to not seeing mom and dad by their side. This results to a child feeling alone, scared and angry. They also may be triggered by another child stealing a toy, hitting, or biting them first, etc...

Solution: Although you cannot stop another human from the actions they make you can try to at least help them slow down their biting habits.

Every opportunity you have to spend time with them show them that you care and love them. Interact with them using sensory options such as certain toys, taking them out somewhere fun but not somewhere like a playground where you will sit on a bench while they play, something or somewhere fun that you can all enjoy time together. It is crucial for a child to learn how the world works and explore.

Another solution is to have a regular snack period for your child to eat crunchy foods during the day.

The cause of the biting may simply because they're teething. We all know how sensitive your teeth are. Teeth growing in can be very bothersome it could cause pain, anger and sadness. Your toddler may just not know how to handle it and or need something to bite resulting in them taking it out on somebody else.

Solution: Buy your toddler a teething ring. There are all different kinds of teething rings you can purchase. If one doesn't connect with your child instead of giving up try a new one. They have ones they can where as a necklace, ones you put in the freezer and even vibrating ones. The ice teethers and the vibrating ones are very good ones to soothe their pain and will most likely be more drawn to.

Pick up a teether toothbrush or even some good sensory toys for their teething to go the extra mile.

As a growing child they still don't know how to express their emotions properly. So a child may get mad or sad and not know how to handle it turning to the closest one by to take it out on. This is where the sensory part of a child's development becomes crucial.

Solution: Reading a book on emotions, flash cards of happy, sad, angry faces, dancing and laughing are simple strategies. Listening and interacting to a song such as "If you're happy and you know it" get the child to understand how to react to how they're feeling. Find songs and activities that your child can interact with.
