Quotes About Mothers and Mother Figures

In 2017, Pam Goodfellow, a Prosper Principal Analyst, stated that “Consumers are planning to open up their wallets a little bit more to celebrate the women with the most important jobs in the world.” She was referring to the stupendous amount of money people spend on their mothers for Mother’s Day.

Mother's Day spending increased from $14.9 billion in 2007 to $23.6 billion in 2017. Despite the staggering amount of money we spend on Mother's Day gifts, however, most of us recognize that the influence of the mothers and mother figures in our lives is beyond price. Below are 30 quotes about mothers and the immeasurably positive impact they have on our lives.

Nicole, thanks for your input. Here's a bonus quote for you: "The king upon his throne has no higher work than has the mother. . . An angel could not ask for a higher mission . . . Her work is for time and for eternity." (Ellen White) Best to you and your sons always!

Nicole K on October 08, 2019:

Thanks for this wonderful hub! I was tearing up reading all of the different quotes about how special mothers are. It's easy to forget how significant this role is when you're completing the daily household chores involved (laundry, dishes, grocery shopping, meals, and so on). It gets mundane at times. This was a wonderful reminder just how truly priceless mothers are! I hope to always be close to my sons as they grow older and I hope we'll have a special bond.

Dora Weithers (author) from The Caribbean on April 17, 2019:

Tamara, thank you for your inspiring contribution to this article. Blessings on you and your children and Happy Mother's Day when it comes less than a month away.

Tamara Yancosky BBYCGN from Uninhabited Regions on April 17, 2019:

Except for our Lord, Who is Love, Himself, there is no greater love than that between a mother and her children. It is an amazing love; wholly unbreakable, and unquenchable. Such a love is fascinating, really, because it is so consuming. I know this because I love my children more than words, or even my actions will ever be able to describe.

Thank you, Dora, for putting forth your lovely, sweetly scented post on the quotes about such a magnificent love!

Hugs,

Tamara

Dolores Monet from East Coast, United States on February 22, 2019:

I so enjoyed reading all the quotes about mothers. I've been thinking about my own mother so much lately - things that she said and did keep popping up. So this was a perfect fit.

Antonio50S on February 21, 2019:

I think thats a GREAT comment from Eric, but what makes the world and life grand, isn't the things we already have, its not even any suffering we maybe going through, its our whole outlook and perception to life itself.

Sometimes its hard knowing if what we have is as a result of Gods blessings ? Maybe we have these things because we have the right attitude to begin with ? or we could be just victims of circumdtances in life ? Only God knows these things, and only God knows how to deliver people out of trials.

Even Job in his testings "wasn't" found righteous, but he did have the right attitude towards God & life, For that, he was "considered" righteous, and received far more than he lost.

If were not being tested, how will we know our faith is real ? But we do need to maintain the right attitude, no matter what comes our way in life.

Antonio50S on February 20, 2019:

Wes Angelozzi.

"Go and love someone exactly as they are. And then watch how quikly they transform into the greatest, truest version of themselves. When one feels seen and appreciated in their own essence, one is instantly empowered"

Antonio50S on February 20, 2019:

If we travel the speed of light being 186,000 miles per second, it would take 100,000 years to cross our Milky Way Galaxy, yet there's billions of galaxies in our universe.

Despite that, "Love is the most powerful force in the universe, which has no limits" Albert Einstein.

Love is limitless, it gives meaning to everything in life and has the power to heal all wounds. Comes up a lot in these quotes.

Antonio50S on February 20, 2019:

Eric is funny. Life is definitely grand when we have the right attitude towards it. looking at this photo of Planet earth from outer space "from a distance" all the things the nations worry about ? In the end we don't really own anything. In the stream of time, we're here for a moment, then we're gone, but the spirirual treasures stored in the heavens are for eternity.

Dora Weithers (author) from The Caribbean on February 19, 2019:

Eric, we're agreed on that. With children and grandchildren who love me, with writer-friends like you who support my work and offer me interesting content to read, with angels hovering over me and God providing for me, with so much more . . . life is really grand A pleasure to have you cross my path!

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on February 19, 2019:

Ain't life grand Dora..

Dora Weithers (author) from The Caribbean on February 19, 2019:

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on February 19, 2019:

Wonderful collection of quotes about the mothers. I loved all of them. Mothers are like angels on Earth and I find it very difficult to describe, their countless qualities.

My mother is my inspiration, my teacher, my guide and what not! In addition to being the most affectionate person, she never hesitates to correct me, when I am wrong.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful tribute to the mothers!

To dora. About them last couple of post of mine, they were a bit long and detailed, but just shairing my own past experience, if you feel its inappropriate leaving them post there ? ( just "delete" them ) whatever you think ? Already shaired the experience.

Dora Weithers (author) from The Caribbean on February 09, 2019:

Mary, sometimes we even feel their presence. Such is the power of their influence. Thanks for your comment.

Liz Westwood from UK on February 09, 2019:

You have compiled an interesting set of quotes. Sadly not everyone can have the best experience with their own mother, but we can all recognise these quotes in others.

Antonio50S on February 09, 2019:

This is the very best thing i miss about being a JW.

Everybody in the congregation could know the worst things about you, yet give you the best welcoming smile you ever seen when you walk through them doors. They treat you like a real brother or sister, like one of their own.

When someone is truly sorry for what they did, no matter how many times they fall back to old ways, what can you do other than forgive ? Nobody knows the real deep inward struggles of an individual, but ( God sees it ), and that's all that matters. In a similar way a good mother may choose not to see it, but it will never surpass the Love of God & Christ who sees all men, women, and children as their very own, regardless of faults, ( for now )

The world is ready to accuse and condemn individuals on the basis of what they did regardless of how sorry they are, some maybe justifiable, but God will have the final say on who lives and who dies, but without that love we will never have the opportunity to live in the first place.

Loannis is right, Mother is the Human form of Gods Love. I understand that backround.

Tim Truzy from U.S.A. on February 09, 2019:

Eric echoes my sentiments exactly, Ms. Dora. It takes good women to help raise good men. My wife just kind of grins when I would be up to mischief with the kids when they were young, now she just says: "Oh, Tim! you and those dogs of ours are like children some days." My wife has many of the qualities of my mom, doing a great job with the children, me, and life to help us all turn out o.k.

Thanks again, Ms. Dora. Great piece of writing.

Tim

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on February 09, 2019:

Oh my, I read this and thought about it and now I am back. What a wonderful influence in love my mom was. So special to each of us 6 kids and ones she brought in. She is my adoptive mother, so I thank my biological mother also.

I think of my wife as my mother also. She just gives me and my boy the love we need to prosper. Like my mom she is super judgmental - for about ten minutes a day.

Looking the other way when we are up to mischief is a special talent.

Antonio50S on February 09, 2019:

To look for perfection in others is not have faith in them, but if we really understand the mind of God, he don't look at others as we do. The more trust we have in God, the more our trust in others develop.

"My doctor told me i would never walk again, my mother told me i would. I believed my mother"

Sounds like some of my aunties, but the down side to some of these "Poweful Influences" towards their children, they can hold into things forever and ever with with certain others not of their own blood. If we can apply that kind of love towards all people irrespective, the world would be a different place to live. That's the ideal love God wants, and working towards through the death of Jesus.

Antonio50S on February 09, 2019:

About someone secretly following us around snapping a photoe of us at anytime. ( I really do appreciate ) Marlenes ways and mean that, me personally, i like the idea of being imperfect, knowing that I'v done and said things in the past which i am not proud of. Some places in the world, eveywhere we go your being watched. With the Almighty God himself and Jesus we're even watched in privacy of our own homes as well. No disrespect to anyone, but glad i messed up in the passed. But even for those who haven't, If our own conscience isn't already accusing us on a daily basis then maybe we dont need to show our faces before the Almighy himself who even knows our very thoughts.

About anything i said or done in the past ? My take on that is just leave it where it is, it's a good reminder of who i was. And believe it or not, it's good for others to, because if we can't, it's just shows up our own imperfect state.

Linda Crampton from British Columbia, Canada on February 08, 2019:

The quotes that you collect are always interesting and thought provoking. Thanks for sharing these lovely ones about mothers, Dora. Many of them brought back happy memories of my mother.

Mother is the human form God's Love! I was blessed with a mother who taught me to love and with a mother for my boys who showed me how to become Love! Thank you for this great tribute, my dear sister!

Mother is a synonym of Love!

Number ( 7 ) Naomi Wolf. Is really good.

Mary Norton from Ontario, Canada on February 08, 2019:

This is a very inspiring hub especially because we all love our mothers and admire her. There are times when I wish she is still around but we need to let go. Her presence is still around.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on February 08, 2019:

These are beautiful quotes about mothers. My mother was good and I tried hard to be a good mother to my 3 sons.

Have a great weekend Dora.

Antonio50S on February 08, 2019:

( There's a lot of "very good" quotes here )

Number 30, I think that "Sixth Sence" is the very highest of all Loves in creation. When you can love to them depths, that must be the real sacrificial "Agape" love the bible speaks about, a mother who never did care for pie, who would die for her kids.

Only that kind of love can know every detail about her kids. That's also the love God & Jesus has for ( ALL ) humanity "Impartially"

A real challenge for all of us, could we ever accsept other peoples children as our own, and love them in the same way ? If we could, that love would be even more pure than the love of a natural mother. Mitch Albom. ( 19 )

Dora Weithers (author) from The Caribbean on February 08, 2019:

Dora Weithers (author) from The Caribbean on February 08, 2019:

Thanks, Peg. I couldn't say it any better. "What a blessing and a gift mothers are if they choose to be."

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on February 08, 2019:

I had a good one, but my Bev is the best I've ever seen. Beautiful quotes. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend, my friend.

Marlene Bertrand from USA on February 08, 2019:

This is a wonderful tribute to mothers. My mother would often say something similar to #12, only she would say, imagine someone secretly following you around and is able to snap a photo of you at any moment and then show it to the world. Would it be a photo you could be proud of? That thought has been one of many thoughts that has kept me on the straight and narrow for all my years.

Elaina Baker from USA on February 07, 2019:

There are so many great quotes here, Dora. My mother is a selfless, confident person who gives much of herself and always makes her children feel loved. When my sister and I were teens we separately nominated her for a local Mother of the Year contest (neither of us knew that the other had nominated her), and she won the title. She still mentions it decades later. Now that I have my own child I especially value her sacrifices in raising three children in sometimes challenging circumstances.

Tim Truzy from U.S.A. on February 07, 2019:

Hello, Ms. Dora,

another fine article. I like the quote about a mother looking at a pie, seeing 4 children and deciding she didn't want pie. I smiled because I wondered how many times did my mother do that for her children?

A mother's love is special and I really enjoyed the powerful and thought provoking quotes in your work.
