I Asked Teenagers Personal Questions, These Are the Answers
I asked my friends who are 16 - 17 years of age 10 personal and thought provoking questions.
Question 1: What is a regret you have?
- "Can't think of one."
- "Not standing up for myself when I was younger."
- "Not doing as much as I could have and having fun."
- "Telling someone I loved them, only for them to break my heart."
- "Misbehaving as a child."
- "Acting like a brat."
- "Not taking risks when the opportunity was given to me."
- "For not studying my English in primary school."
Question 2: What are 2 things you dislike about yourself?
- "My weight and skin."
- "My anxiety, body shape."
- "My self-esteem and weak joints."
- "My weight and teeth."
- "Nose and teeth."
- "That I'm bad at talking to new people and that I cry when I'm frustrated."
- "My tendency to be jealous, my legs."
- "My big butt and my height."
Question 3: What makes you feel most alive?
- "When I'm out in the bush."
- "Music and horse riding."
- "Being with friends and doing something I enjoy."
- "Rollercoasters and adrenaline."
- "Boxing training."
- "Being under the night sky when it's raining."
- "My family, friends and my faith."
- "Staying in my room and and doing practical activities."
Question 4: Have you ever had suicidal thoughts?
- "Yes."

Question 5: What's something that offends you?
- "Maybe when people say, "Kill sharks because they are killers." when people are killers too."
- "Being rude about religion."

- "When people point out my insecurities."
- "People picking with people I'm friends with or related to."
- "Pointing out anything negative involving my physical appearance."
- "Mockery towards my faith."
- "Bad table manners and people being cringe."
Question 6: What's something you wish you could tell your parents/ other parents?
- "Probably my true feelings about something."
- "Thank you, parenting is hard, I respect you."
- "My sexuality."
- "About some stuff I'm struggling with."

- "I think I'm broken."
- "I wish I could tell them to understand that we live a different life now, compared to them."
- "That you shouldn’t put high expectations onto your kids who’s having mental health."
Question 7: What is the biggest 'What If' in your mind?
- "What if I'm not pretty enough?"

Question 8: Have you ever had an unrequited love? if so how did it make you feel?

- "I mean, I guess. I guess it made me feel quite shy, and annoyed with the fact that I didn’t put in effort."
- "Yes back in primary school but it made me shy and awkward around her because I was afraid of her rejecting me."
Question 9: What in life, is beautiful to you?
- "Nature."

- "I don't have perfect skin, but that doesn't mean you have to look at me."

The number of your friends who replied "Yes" to having suicidal thoughts and not being happy with their physical appearance broke my heart. I feel teens nowadays are facing more stress than ever before. Social media plays a big part in that.
