Creativity is intelligence having fun according to Einstein. Well watching movies is having fun, analyzing them... the best
There’s this story of a boy, one of his father’s youngest sons and his father loved him quite much and his brothers were irked by it.
When he started projecting an image of himself as being great and maybe even greater than all his brothers combined, it certainly tipped the cup over for them.
I mean, wasn’t it enough that he was their father’s favorite and received expensive gifts from him? He just had to make them feel like compared to him they wouldn’t amount to anything
So they planned his murder and after being unable to carry that out, they sold him out and this put him in some very unfortunate and unpleasant situations.
He eventually found his footing way up in a place where he had the power to either help or end his brothers and he chose to help them, forgive them and even honor them
Does it sound familiar? Well, it should since its Joseph’s story.
One common story in the Bible about sibling rivalries and honestly I think it has a couple of them.
Another example would be Jacob and Esau who were able to reconcile as well, after all its family over everything
Family ties, a song by Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar who are actually cousins dropped this track and were able to show how working with family can bring out the best in us.
From the point where Baby Keem appreciates Kendrick Lamar in the song to the collaboration topping charts reaching number 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and snagging two nominations at the 2022 Grammys for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
I mean is family the best or what?
Tori Spelling once said we are not defined by the family into which we are born but we are described through them.
It’s why we have surnames and why the reputation of our families influences how people view us.
Those are things we can’t change but we can learn to accept and love that identity as we forge our personality.
The same personality that follows our created family so even if we had to carry a bad one all our lives, we can earn our stripes and change the narrative
Portrayal of Family Through Religion
In Islam, we can see that family ties are majorly upheld and rewarded as the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH&HP) said “whoever keeps family kinship, God will love him and increase his wealth” as well as “(whoever does so,) I will postpone his death, I will make his death easy, and the heaven angels will call him to enter heaven from every door he wishes.”
There are also repercussions to severing family ties as seen when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) also said “the sweet smell of heaven will be sensed from a thousand year of distance but those who have been insolent to the parents and those who have broken family ties will be deprived of it”
Even in Christianity, the pillar of family is very strong and relevant as seen when God doesn’t bless just Abraham but his descendants also.
And in cases of curses and punishments, it can reach down to the fourth generation after the offender (Numbers 14:18)
The concept of family has always been sacred that’s why even while Jesus came to earth he had a family both born (with Mary and Joseph) and created (with his disciples)
There are also verses that talk about one being worse than an unbeliever by refusing to provide for his relatives and that their inheritance will be lost in the wind
Proverbs 17:17 says a brother is born for a time of adversity which means no matter what it is family that would help you out
It also gives instructions on how to carry out family duties towards one another so that peace can reign and we find acceptance through love, obedience, tolerance, acceptance, accommodation of each other’s’ excesses as well as patience.
Family is also one of the reasons for the creation and popularity of family sitcoms as it teaches family values that are embodied and appealing to families.
These dramas also present similar real-life situations that are relatable and amusing to their audiences.
Not only do these sitcoms bring family together but also give them a sense of common identity
They say Blood is thicker than water and while there are many days you can’t stand the people you are related to, there are days it just falls away and that bond always comes through.
It’s not just in the big sacrifices we make for them but the little ones too. And sometimes those small favors we extend can be big issues
Nepotism according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary is an unfair practice by a powerful person of giving jobs and other favors to relatives.
During the Renaissance in Rome, the Popes would give positions of great power within the Catholic Church to their nephews and so the practice got its name. Nephew is nepos in Latin and so brings us to Nepotism.
This practice is one which is now common everywhere that even in countries where a bill is signed to curb it; those in power always find loopholes and take advantage of it
While some sociologists state that it is simply an act or impulse to protect ourselves and our clan, it doesn’t change the fact that you have to bend the rules, heck break some if need be just to get them there
