Beth Perry is a Tennessee mom of four and grandmother of three
My children are grown now, although I can't help but still think of them as "my babies". Yet, it seems so many of their friends and cousins have been having babies this past year! It seems every time I turn around I'm congratulating some friend or relative on becoming a new parent or grandparent. Maybe this has just been a very fertile year?
With this in mind, I looked around and found some rather amusing birth announcements. These are gathered from newspaper community features, greeting cards and media sources. As you'll see, not are all were intended to be humorous, but just inadvertently turned out that way. Others were definitely created to provide a chuckle! Either way, I enjoyed this collection and hope you will, too.
With this first announcement, you get the feeling the parents either had a good sense of humor or were just really hungry.
If you do have a good sense of humor, why not make the best out of modern social customs for naming a child? Of course, it could be these parents are just Edgar Allan Poe fans.
I don't think this one can be blamed on somebody's sense of humor, it's too obvious someone on the editorial staff wasn't paying attention. But hey, if the parents are science fiction fans, they might have got a big kick out of the goof anyway!
Some media outlets are conscientious about owning up to their mistakes, though you want to watch out about making any glaring reiterations about an embarrassing goof.
Sometimes the hardest thing about having a baby is trying to get everybody gathered for the anticipated birth. You have to feel for this poor excited father-to-be!
This daddy sounds excited, too, and who can blame him? It's not every man whose child can share their playpen with a grand niece or nephew!
All new parents should be advised that being a parent does require making sacrifices. Whoever created this card has surely been there.
Other kids in your family should also be advised, lol.
This conversation from a chat board reminds us also that new additions to the family can sometimes even test friendships.
Here is a birth announcement that should serve as a reminder that even religious people can be stupid enough to saddle a child with a cruel name.
And if others feel the name just fits, never blame the child. Case in point:
I chuckled out loud over this pre-announcement announcement for fathers-to-be.
Expecting more than one child at a time does pose its worth of challenges. Just coming up with multiple names can be exasperating, as this vintage birth announcement clearly demonstrates.
Finding out you are about to become a grandparent can be the most wondrous, thrilling news imaginable. On the other hand, not all of us are always prepared for that remarkable event.
I'll leave you with this announcement from an over-joyed new mommy of four. Because love is unconditional, and often crazy like a cat lady.
