Are These the 10 Worst Songs Ever?

The votes are in and these tracks have been voted as some of the worst songs ever.

You know, sometimes you are listening to the radio and a song comes on that just forces you to hit the off button. While it is, or has been popular, the song nevertheless annoys you profusely - generating grimaces, groans and, in some cases, outright hatred.

So it is that came up with the twenty worst songs ever which, for many, now incite laughter, horror and even despair.

However, everyone would probably admit to secretly liking at least one of these songs, but would undoubtedly shy away from confessing it in public! That's why it generally proves difficult compiling a list like this as one man's junk is often another man's treasure.

Nevertheless, a compilation has been assembled and here in descending order are the Top 10 of those twenty worst songs ever.

Do you agree?

#1: Who Let the Dogs Out? - Baha Men

After hearing this song, many people have asked, Who let the Baha Men out? In reality, this disc is not representative of the group's normal output, which is a mixture of Caribbean R&B, dance and rap music.

However, they released this song in 2000 and it quickly became the Baha Men's first (and to date, only) US and UK hit tune, also garnering them the Grammy for Best Dance Recording at the 2001 Grammy Awards.

This popularity led it to its use at a variety of sports stadiums - most notably adopted by the Seattle Mariners and the New York Mets in the US and fans of both Crystal Palace FC and Chelsea FC in the UK.

#2: Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice

The number two song is Vanilla Ice's (born, Robert Matthew Van Winkle) cannibalization of Queen and David Bowie's Under Pressure, along with his own version of rap.

The tune has caused Vanilla Ice a lot of trouble since its release in 1990. Although no royalties were ever formally paid, Ice reportedly paid an out of court sum to Queen/Bowie, and their writing credits were added retroactively to the disc.

Later, Ice alleged that he was dangled by the ankles over a balcony to a high rise building by Suge Knight (CEO of Death Row Records), in order to convince Vanilla Ice that he owed royalties from the lyrics to the tune.

As this song appears on many worst lists, some may have preferred that he was dangled by the ankles to promise to never release the record.

#3: She Bangs - Ricky Martin

Is it Ricky Martin's fault that this song will be forever associated with American Idol reject, William Hung?

No, I guess not. Nevertheless, this tune released in 2000 by Martin, has received the inauspicious honor of being named as one of the 50 Worst Songs Ever by Blender magazine in both its original version and that of Hung.

#4: Barbie Girl - Aqua

This song has turned up in more polls than you can shake a stick at:

Voted the fourth Best Number One of All Time in a VH1 poll, and was featured as #32 on VH1's Most Awesomely Bad Songs...Ever countdown. In another VH1 countdown, VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders, it popped up at #88.

Scroll to Continue

In 2007, Rolling Stone voted it as one of the 20 Most Annoying Songs.

In 2007, MuchMoreMusic voted it as one of the 50 Guilty Pleasures (#27)

Blender magazine also voted it at #33, as one of the 50 Worst Songs Ever.

#5: U Can't Touch This - MC Hammer

This song undoubtedly became one of the most annoying tunes ever. It was everywhere, even winning (unexpectedly) the Grammys for Best R&B Song and Best Rap Solo Performance.

While it may have seemed cool to quote Stop! - Hammertime! back in 1990, the phrase has been overused so much in all forms of media since then, that it has caused a backlash and brings U Can't Touch This to #5 in the twenty worst songs ever chart.

#6: I Am Woman - Helen Reddy this a bad song? At the time of the emerging Women's Liberation Movement, this tune became its anthem and, no doubt, reflected an aspect of social significance.

It reached #1 in the US in December 1972 - but these days the song seems to have yellowed a tad and curled around the edges. Corny seems to apply too.

#7: I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred

Are Right Said Fred too sexy for this poll?

According to Spinner, no! Here's their assessment:

While the members of this British trio may be too sexy for their shirts, hats and cars, their 1991 single is not too sexy for our list of bad songs. The instrumental break, based on a riff from Third Stone From the Sun, probably still causes Jimi Hendrix to turn in his grave.

#8: Ebony & Ivory - Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder

Another Number One single to find its place on the worst song ever list.

In fact, this is not the only "worst of" poll where it appears. Following the song's massive chart success, it was derided as "saccharine" and was later named as the tenth worst song of all time by Blender magazine.

In October 2007, it was named the worst duet in history by BBC 6 music listeners in the UK.

#9: Macarena - Los Del Rio

What...the Macarena? I hear you say...Yep, it's here. The dance craze that swept a nation, nay the world, pops up at Number Nine in this worst of list.

Recorded in 1995, the song became the second longest running Number One, and the best selling debut single of all time in the US. Every large social gathering seemed unhip without it.

Not only does it appear on this list, but was also ranked as Number One in VH1's documentary The 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders. Macarena was also ranked Number One on a different VH1 documentary: The 40 Awesomely Bad No. 1 Songs.

#10: My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion

Spinner says this song was overplayed - and that's why it's here!

The Black Eyed Peas

Friday: Rebecca Black - Worst Song: Supplemental

You've been asking for it, so you only have yourselves to blame. This has become one of the most despised songs in recent music history: Friday by Rebecca Black.

Please note: This is not my personal list and was compiled around 2008. Over the years, more abominable songs have, of course, been released and could be added to this selection.

Thank you for visiting.

Thanks For Dropping By the Worst Songs Ever: Your Comments Are Welcomed!

Scott A. Butler from England on July 26, 2014:

I thought Macarena was catchy! Haha

jimreftl on July 26, 2014:

Mr. Bojangles. That song should be taken out and shot.

Snakesmum on July 03, 2014:

Can't say I've even heard of some of these songs, but like you, I do like a few of them. :-)

Ibidii on June 27, 2014:

I am the last person to ask about music as I do not listen much anymore to these genre's. However I only had to review one song that I was not familiar with in the list at the top of the page and that was the Vanilla Ice song. My least favorite genre is rap so that song was easily number one on my Ugh scale of music. I am just an old grandma, what do I know? Ask me about 1969 Stones Free concert and that is more what I know about being there in person. LOL! Great review!

Deborah Carr from Orange County, California on June 23, 2014:

These were great choices for the worst song ... even though I hum some of them from time to time!

sybil watson on June 14, 2014:

I have to confess that when "I'm Too Sexy" came out I would sing it while did my housework, commenting that I was too sexy for all of it. This is a great page that I really enjoyed reading.

Hal Gall from Bloomington, IN on June 01, 2014:

What's amazing is that all of these songs are easily recognizable. Says a lot for today's tastes in music!

Charito Maranan-Montecillo from Manila, Philippines on May 24, 2014:

I actually like Helen Reddy's other songs, except for the one you listed above. I, too, don't like it!

mistyriver on May 16, 2014:

I like a lot of these songs. I did enjoy your lens though, very amusing!

Stephanie from Canada on May 12, 2014:

Apparently I liked this page a while ago, but have stumbled on it again. I have to admit that I love Barbie Girl! But I was 14 when it was popular, and so that might be a

asereht1970 from Philippines on April 25, 2014:

Nice lens although I can't agree much to the list. I like most of them personally. For me, Oppa Gangnam Style is the worst.

Barbara Tremblay Cipak from Toronto, Canada on April 25, 2014:

hmm...can't say I agree with all their choices that's for sure! If Celine's song made the worst list, I know one thing, please let me be that bad, please!!! lol

john-yowza on April 02, 2014:

@SheGetsCreative: OMG - yes, ... disco duck is awful beyond all comprehension

john-yowza on April 02, 2014:

@GabrielaFargasch: yeah, maybe if you're 2 or 3 years old ... "Life in plastic, it's fantastic ... Come on Barbie, let's go party" --- holy macaroni that's bad

john-yowza on April 02, 2014:

@TreasuresBrenda: No way - Gangnam Style is brilliant

john-yowza on April 02, 2014:

Friday by Rebecca Black is so awful that I thought I was watching a parody video, when in fact, it was the actual video. It is mind-numbing to sit there and hear this robotic voice with a painted-on smile and halfhearted fist pumps and repetitive drivel about the most basic stuff like getting up, having cereal, going to the bus stop, etc. ... I mean, this song is BAD. So bad that I thought she was a robot in the video and not an actual person. It reminds me of a high school assignment written and filmed by a high school freshman. Either that, or a tutorial for a 2 year old learning the days of the week for the very first time. Seriously, I was expecting Barney the purple dinosaur to pop up and start singing along during the chorus. Also, anything by the Biebs is awful too. If you want old school garbage, check out "Don't give up on us" by David Soul - and try not to laugh.

alienbritt on March 29, 2014:

Horrible songs indeed, but very entertaining nonetheless! Good Lens, thanks for giving me a laugh today!

anonymous on March 28, 2014:

I agree with this lenses, these songs are definitely horrible. Great lenses

lin444 on March 27, 2014:

I know it's not really your list of songs...but if I was making a list, none of those songs would have been on it. I liked them all! Any song by justin beiber would make my list though.

Jason Sositko on March 27, 2014:

@blestman lm: The Monkees actually are underrated, you might be surprised after listening to the full LP's.

Melanie Wilcox from Pennsylvania, USA on March 25, 2014:

I think I need to just keep quiet ;)

blestman lm on March 16, 2014:

I think you have a good list here but I there are some cheesy made for TV groups like the Monkeys or the Partridge Family that had some bad songs played over the airways.

Ellen Gregory from Connecticut, USA on March 12, 2014:

Maybe it's generational, but I am quite fond of "I Am Woman Hear Me Roar". Maybe to appreciate it you need to be a woman and of a certain age, when it was so hard to crash the glass ceiling. Helen's song was an anthem and encouraging -- much like Katy Perry's "Roar" or Sara Bareilles "Brave".

Barbara Walton from France on February 06, 2014:

I've only heard one of these - blessed escape. What about Sugar Sugar? Can't remember who sang this. What fun you must have had compiling this list.

Missmerfaery444 on February 06, 2014:

LOL! Well I don't know about the worst... certainly some of the most annoying... I would add quite a lot of today's modern rubbish to the "worst" list to be honest ;) including Gangnam Style. Actually, Blurred Lines would be top of my list right now.

I object to Celine Dion being on the list though (still love that song), and I have to confess I do also actually own Barbie Girl - what the heck, it's a bit of fun! :D

Yusuf Maulana on February 02, 2014:

everyone has it's own taste, someone who like heavymetal music, will not like bethoven music, vice versa

KFRaizor on January 25, 2014:

Ha, this list is bush league. Any list without the "dead" songs -- "Rocky," "Run, Joey, Run," "Billy Don't Be a Hero," "Laurie (Strange Things Happen)" -- is not even worth considering.

And all of those songs pale in comparison to Red Sovine's "Little Rosa." I dare anyone to listen to that song without throwing up.

Melanie Wilcox from Pennsylvania, USA on November 27, 2013:

ehehe I was thinking about writing an article like this just a couple of days ago -mostly to get it off my chest and share and bond with those who agree hahaha. Yes, these songs are pretty bad. I shuddered quite a bit going through this list. I tried to take the poll, but I just kept staring at it. ahahahaha and can I say, Disco is a crime! (and I have very good reasons why) Thanks for the lens. This was a fun one.

MaggiePowell on October 30, 2013:

I see a trend... any song that radio stations feel is the "it song" of the year gets overplayed, overhyped, and generally becomes hated.

Treasures By Brenda from Canada on August 09, 2013:

Great list. My teenage sons would probably add Gangnam Style. It's an eye roller for them.

TanoCalvenoa on June 24, 2013:

No worst songs list is complete without something from The Village People.

jericho911 lm on June 23, 2013:

I actually like at least half of the songs on the 10 worst list. LOL

I would put the entire AC/DC collection on that list, though. I think they were awful !

Meganhere on June 23, 2013:

Justin Bieber! Baby baby baby ooh baby baby baby. Puhleeze!

LouiseKirkpatrick from Lincolnshire, United Kingdom on March 23, 2013:

NOOOOOOO! "Seven Tears" by The Goombay Dance Band = worse record ever. The mere thought of that hideous racket brings me out in a rash (PS Right Said Fred = my guilty pleasure!) ;)

Lisa Marie Gabriel from United Kingdom on February 27, 2013:

Hey Macarena makes me want to hurl. Barbie Girl makes me cringe. Hey Good Looking (What you got cooking?) has me headed for the earplugs! I wish I had written this page Rich! :D

Malu Couttolenc on January 18, 2013:

I think there are worse songs out there, can't even remember the names. This is a fun page :)

As I say myself in my list of the worst presidents, any best or worst list is, by its very nature, subjective. But, they are still fun.....

HOW COULD YOU PUT JAMES BLUNT ON THERE???Q!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!! HE IS AMAYZZING!!!!!!!!!!

Indigo Janson from UK on November 03, 2011:

Thanks for the smiles, Bonnie and Rich. A fun idea for a lens and has certainly got people talking!

mockingbird999 on October 31, 2011:

MacArthur Park - Worst song ever.

Carolan Ross from St. Louis, MO on October 31, 2011: Helen Ready singing 'I am Woman' ain't bad and ok I will admit that sometimes the Macarena can be fun. Otherwise, yes the rest of these so-called 'songs' get gongs.

Patricia on August 03, 2011:

These are fun songs.

TheManTheBrand on July 26, 2011:

There's some good stuff here.... if you compare it to the songs on the radio today. And Rebecca Black?! if you listen to it enough... it gets kinda catchy after about 15 times. She'll be an unoffical One Hit Wonder in my books for the rest of eternity. Great Lens!

WayneDave LM on July 11, 2011:

There are a lot of bad songs on that list! Good shout with Ebony and Ivory, really overated. Really wish Stevie hadn't have done that one!

KANEsUgAr on July 04, 2011:

definitely agree with these being the worste songs.

firnandus on May 11, 2011:

You are right,.....

Deb Kingsbury from Flagstaff, Arizona on May 07, 2011:

Macarena definitely isn't a song I'd just LISTEN to, but I have to admit it's fun to (occasionally, as in, not too often) do the dance at a party. If I had to sit still and listen, though ... yeah, definitely not good.

anonymous on May 05, 2011:

I think someone already mentions that Rebecca Black "Friday" should be added to this

GabrielaFargasch on April 23, 2011:

Hahahahaha! I have to confess I like the "Barbie Girl" song.... But you are absolutely right about the other nine songs!

Lisa Auch from Scotland on April 20, 2011:

Yes I agreee with your list too, they are annoying, but afraid also classic memories too. Like MCHammer and his pants! oooh....the 80s - congrats on your feature fantastic

grannysage on April 19, 2011:

Aawwwww, I Am Woman may be out of place today, but it is a classic feminist song. I'd replace it with Don't Worry, Be Happy with the singing fish.

GoAceNate LM on April 08, 2011:

Ha ha hah. Great lens. Enjoyed very much

JaySing on April 07, 2011:

OMG - I am still laughing.

Great job and lots of fun. Thank you.

anonymous on April 01, 2011:

All these songs are better that Rebecca Black's "Friday" - they pale in comparison to her loud, toneless noise that passes as "singing". The ones listed here are cheesy, yes, but they're cheesy classics!!

You Light Up My Life thats another bad one Run Joey Run oldie but a baddie

CeleryStalker LM on October 18, 2010:

I was lucky enough to never hear #6 before seeing this lens... :) I'd toss Tik Tok by Ke$ha into one I was writing.

Meloramus on October 16, 2010:

Cheesy, yet sadly, also memorable! Cool idea for a lens.

anonymous on August 24, 2010:

I made my own version of a worst song list and posted it on Facebook and surprisingly 3 of the songs on this list made it. I do not agree with U Can't Touch This, Ice, Ice Baby and Who Let The Dogs Out. But Barbie Girl, My Heart WIll Go On and Macarena made my list and your's. Could have added My Humps by The Black Eyed Peas to your list.

Richard (author) from Surrey, United Kingdom on June 16, 2010:

Gotta say that many of these songs make me cringe. Can think of some others too. Little Jimmy Osmond anyone? Great lens :)

Andy-Po on October 24, 2008:
