A calling to sing
My parents are so sure, though I can’t remember anymore, that I started singing when I was three years old. They’d make me stand on a small chair and would hand me a hair brush to serve as my mic, so I can sing in front of our house guests. Those were my first and early "training" days.
I started singing in public as I became a member of the Infant Jesus Academy (Marikina Branch) Glee Club, led by our multi-talented and dedicated choir master, Sir Jon Lumba. My first song pieces were Disney classics, Filipino Folk Songs, Christmas Carols, Latin Classical Songs. Then eventually, I did broadway music.
In my singing journey (even until now), I would consider Lea Salonga as my ultimate music and theatrical hero. I even decided to take up Theater Arts at the University of the Philippines Diliman because of her! Had it not been for my parents’ objection (because they want me to study nursing in college), I could have graduated with a theater arts degree by now.
Such rejection, especially coming from my parents, made me forget all about music.I suddenly became withdrawn and discreet. I won’t even tell people that I know how to sing; that I know how to hit those notes RIGHT. It was the most insipid phase of my life.
But now, times have changed. After so many years of reluctant waiting, my prayers were finally answered. Four wonderful guys came in to my life and trusted that I have, indeed, a talent that could use some rocking! Thus, my current band, Amihan, is born and we'll be out in the open performing our music and sharing our passion to people.
(NOTE: My band Amihan was disbanded in 2011 due to factors of which this author has nothing to do about. This author, being the composer of the majority of the band's songs, would appreciate any information as to any unconsented or unauthorized use of her songs by her former bandmates, including their peers, in Philippine productions, events, and other public performances. Thank you!)

Thank you for dropping by this hub Sir James. :) I have this strong passion for singing and music so when I finally got the guts to pursue it (for real), I decided to just go for it. It was a tough decision since my family was little bit against my sudden change of career path, but I know this thing would make me happy. I know in time, they would understand. :)
Thank you for watching our video performances. Pardon the crappy camera coverage. Lol. I am from the Philippines so obviously most of our songs are in Tagalog. We have one song written in English. I'd give you a buzz the moment we finish recording it. Maybe you could take a look. :)

Thanks! I am also fascinated how Lea acquired that very melodramatic but POWERFUL voice. Aside from years of practice, I just think she's really blessed with such wonderful gift and inclination to music. I hope I can do the same with my rock music stuff. Hahaha!

Welcome to hubpages! I totally loved this hub. My ultimate singer idol is also Lea Salonga. I love how pure her tone is, and when she sings it is just magical.
I am glad for you, that music and singing is back in your life!
