My Favorite Male Singers of the 80s

Asereht really enjoys reading books and surfing the net. Follow along her journey as she tries her hand at writing and cooking!

I love music

I was born in the year 1970. Even at a young age, I love listening to different kinds of music. I may not have a beautiful voice but that does not stop me from singing too. I sing when I am happy, when I am sad, while doing the laundry, when I am cooking, when I am in the bathroom or taking a shower, or just anywhere. I sing when I feel the urge to sing or if I am feeling a bit shy, I just hum. I grew up listening to my parents, especially my Dad, singing the songs of Frank Sinatra, Matt Monroe, Andy Williams, The Letterman, The Platters and many more. As a young girl, I also fell in love with their music. But as I grew older, my favorite songs have changed over the years.

The 80s music

I believe that music from the 80’s is the best ever. Know why? Because there are lots of singers who are all great in their own field. It is also the decade when the so-called new wave and pop music has started and the time when I got so addicted to watching music videos in television over and over again. I have so many favorite songs and singers during that time. I think in time I will create a different lens about each of them. In this hub, I would like to tell you about my favorite male singers during the 80s. They are the ones whose songs I always sing, even now that I am older. Hearing their songs makes me feel young again. I know some of them were your favorites, too. Here are some of my favorite male singers during the 80s.

Barry Manilow

I simply adore Barry Manilow. I love almost all of his songs but my favorites are As Sure As I’m Standing Here, I Write the Song, Please Don’t Be Scared, I Made It Through the Rain, Mandy, Somewhere Down The Road, and many more. I fell so in love with his music and they have become a part of my growing up years. Actually as I am writing this, I am listening at the same time to his Greatest Songs of the Seventies Album in Youtube. I am so glad there are sites in the internet where you can watch his concerts, download his music, or just listen to his songs for free. Barry may be older now but his voice is still the same.

Lionel Richie

Hello, is it me you’re looking for? The song Hello is one of the many songs that made Lionel Richie one of my favorites. His songs All Night Long, Say You, Say Me, Stuck On You, Ballerina Girl, Penny Lover, Truly, and his duet with Diana Ross, Endless Love have all became hits. This balladeer is really good that even up to now, his music are always a favorite. He had a spectacular concert in Manila in 2014 which made his Filipino fans very happy. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch him because of the high cost of ticket and Manila is far from my province.

Michael Jackson

I believe most of us, if not all, have become in one time or another, a Michael Jackson fan. The King of Pop has popularized so many songs that inspired so many people. I have many favorites among his songs. Some of which are One Day In Your Life, Ben, I Just Can’t Stop Loving You, Heal the World, and Will You Be There which was the theme song of the movie Free Willy. I also love to move my body to the beat of Bad, Billy Jean, Beat It, Thriller and Black or White. I love the video of Black or White, showing people of different colors but teaches equality and racial harmony. Michael Jackson is not only famous for his songs but also for his dance moves like the Moonwalk. Even now that he is gone, many of his fans still celebrate his life and his songs.

Kenny Rogers

Here is one great country singer who, up to now, is still a favorite even among the younger generation. Many of his songs like Lady, Through the Years, Lucille, Coward of the County, The Gambler, You Decorated My Life, You and I, She Believes In Me, and Reuben James have become such big hits in the music industry. He also did duets like Island in the Stream with Dolly Parton, We’ve Got tonight with Sheena Easton, and Every time Two Fools Collide with Dottie West. I never get tired listening to his songs. I came to love country music because of this man.

John Denver

I became a John Denver fan because of the older brother of a friend. John Denver was one of his favorites and he had a compilation of his songs with guitar chords that he kept on playing whenever we were hanging around each other’s place. John Denver was considered one of the most popular acoustic artists of the 70's and one of its best-selling artists. His songs were simple and honest, songs that would really hit you. His song Perhaps Love is one of my favorites among his many songs because of the lyrics, which were all true and meaningful. I personally think it’s a great song. His songs is mostly about his love for nature. Sunshine On My Shoulder, Take Me Home, Country Roads, Leaving On a Jet Plane, and Annie’s Song are some of his many hits. He died in 1997 due to a plane crash in which he was the pilot.

Hope you enjoyed reading this hub. Now you know who are my favorite male singers during the 80s. Won't you tell me yours?
