The Lost Valentine, A Romantic Hallmark Valentine's Day Movie

On January 30, 2011, just in time for Valentine's Day, Hallmark Hall of Fame released the movie The Lost Valentine starring Betty White and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Yes, another role for the prolific 88-year old White, this time in the form of a made-for-television movie.

The Lost Valentine is based on a book by James Michael Pratt called The LAST Valentine. The story is that of a reporter (played by Hewitt) who tells the story of a woman (played by White) whose husband was missing in action during World War II. The reporter helps the older woman locate her long lost love.

The Lost Valentine was filmed in Atlanta and was released as a CBS Hallmark Hall of Fame movie which meant that those of us who do NOT have the Hallmark Channel were able to view the movie when it was aired. Viewers of the movie were NOT disappointed. It was a perfect match, Hallmark Hall of Fame and a Valentine's Day love story. The storyline was great and yes, it was tear provoking. I particularly loved how they used red and red roses throughout the movie to tie things together.

On this page, learn a bit more about the movie and find out where you can buy your very own copy of Hallmark Hall of Fame's The Lost Valentine.

Hallmark's The Lost Valentine

How many people do you think tuned into The Lost Valentine when it had its world premiere?

The Lost Valentine dominated the networks when it had its world premiere on January 30, 2011. It made CBC the network with the most viewers at 14.3 million and it was also the MOST-WATCHED Hallmark movie in four years.

The Book by James Michael Pratt

The story line in The Last Valentine is quite similar to the story in the movie albeit not exactly the same. I would say the basic premise is the same although it is set up a bit differently. If you enjoyed the movie, you might like to check out The LAST Valentine. Booklist says: "Get out your box of tissues, and rid yourself of all distractions because once you pick up this book, you will not put it down. Fans of The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks will enjoy this book."

"This book has a love story in it's purest form, without all the junk that sometimes clouds things. In it you see what true Love is, and it makes you hope. These are not the ramblings of some young love-sick girl, these are the words of someone who had lost faith in real, time-honored, make-it-through-at-any-cost love....this book restored that faith. A Thank you to Mr. Pratt for a novel that touched my heart."

What Hallmark movies would you recommend for Valentine's Day?

Ruthi on March 16, 2014:

I did catch most of this movie, just missing the beginning, but it was easy to catch on. I felt it an extremely moving film, through all the relationships, and enjoyed the bittersweet ending. Betty White played her role to perfection, as ever.

@KimGiancaterino: My post isn't any different then anyone eles. Why would you read these posts before viewing the program? That's like reading the last chapter of a book first

KimGiancaterino on February 11, 2011:

Betty White is pretty amazing. I would definitely like to see this movie. Thanks for letting me know about it.

KimGiancaterino on February 11, 2011:

VSP on February 05, 2011:

This was a great movie. It was on my mind for days afterward, a sign of a good movie. Great lens too.

Treasures By Brenda (author) from Canada on February 02, 2011:

@anonymous: The Lost Valentine was very nicely done and I agree that it is wonderful to find good 'clean' movies.

Treasures By Brenda (author) from Canada on February 02, 2011:

@anonymous: I suppose it wouldn't have been hard to find someone who could help with these little details, which I did not have the knowledge to notice.

Treasures By Brenda (author) from Canada on February 02, 2011:

@anonymous: I agree that the ending was disappointing. Too bad we couldn't redo it.

Treasures By Brenda (author) from Canada on February 02, 2011:

Barbara Tremblay Cipak from Toronto, Canada on February 02, 2011:

Every time I see Betty White, it's a reminder of times in my life - from The Mary Tyler Moore Show to Hot in Cleveland (My fave was Golden Girls) ...just love her :) - nice lens! You sure have completed a lot of lenses!

The Lost Valentine was a hit on all fronts!!!! Absolutely fantastic movie!!! Please make more movies like this!!! No smut. No language. Romantic. Touching. Emotional. Incredible story line!!!!!! A zillion thumbs up!!!!!!!!! I have referred it to many people to tune in "next time!!" I'm still not over it, emotionally!!! Wow!!! Even my husband was deeply moved by this precious movie!!!

lilymom24 on January 31, 2011:

I did not see it but I do love Betty White. My daughter watched it last night and loved it.

anonymous on January 31, 2011:

Enjoyable movie, pretty well done. Only disappointment was due to the production not having a Navy advisor. The scenes with the honor Guard were flawed, the ribbons are on the wrong side of the uniform, and either ribbons OR medals are worn, not both. For a period movie with significant military story lines, they should have made sure...

anonymous on January 30, 2011:

The movie was great until the last frame. Really...a long shot of the two love interests with the sprinklers soaking them????????? That whole sequence could have been eliminated. (There are MANY reasons the shot was wrong which I won't enumerate here.)

anonymous on January 30, 2011:

I would love to see the "Lost Valentine" going by the descriptions and reviews. My preference are happy endings compared to the tragic ones because the tragic ends get into my nerves and it becomes an effort for me to shrug the sad memories and go on.

anonymous on January 30, 2011:

Betty White is incredible in this emotional, loving movie. The best I have seen in a long time. Very great job with the ending.

anonymous on January 30, 2011:

Loved this movie! From Betty White's "Life with Elizabeth" to this wonderful movie tonight I have been a fan of hers for a good many years. This was the first time in years that my heart was touched to the point of tears........Betty is a terrific actress and a National Treasure! Jennifer Love Hewitt is another favorite of mine since "Ghost Whisperer" and what a treat to have them together tonight.

puzzlerpaige on January 30, 2011:

Watched it and loved it! So glad I saw your cast about it. Yes, I cried. And cried.

Treasures By Brenda (author) from Canada on January 30, 2011:

@anonymous: Beautifully done. I like the way they used the red rose and red in general throughout. Thanks for your comment.

Treasures By Brenda (author) from Canada on January 30, 2011:

@anonymous: Agreed. It was an excellent movie! Thank you for taking the time to comment!

anonymous on January 30, 2011:

Tear jerker! Sad to see Betty White's charactor dies in the end...:( If you didn't catch it, her husband comes up behind her in uniform and then you see the sprinkler head/hose 'drops' to the ground which obviously indicates her passing and then you see the younger couple dancing in the end. Sad but peacefully togehter.

anonymous on January 30, 2011:

Just watched The Lost Valentine; can't remember when (if) I've ever cried so much over a movie. Emmy Award-worthy! Thank you Hallmark.

justholidays on January 27, 2011:

Not the kind of movies I'd watch but what wouldn't I do to enjoy seeing Betty White?

puerdycat lm on January 27, 2011:

Ready to see this treat, two girls I love. Thank you so much!

norma-holt on January 26, 2011:

Nor being a movie buff I can't comment on the film but the lens is great and nicely presented material

puzzlerpaige on January 26, 2011:

We WILL be watching Sunday!

anonymous on December 21, 2010:

Must admit sure sounds like a great movie!

Susan Deppner from Arkansas USA on November 29, 2010:

The Lost Valentine sounds like it will be a really good movie. I'm sure there are other Hallmark Valentine movies, but my mind is blank - except for remembering the Hallmark Valentine's Day card commercials, which are always so good. (Lensrolled to my Betty White Calendar lens - thanks for the mention!)

Dianne Loomos on November 29, 2010:

I like both of these actresses so I'd like to see this one.

tandemonimom lm on November 29, 2010:
