8 Engrossing Movies Like Easy a Everyone Should Watch

Rahul is a movie addict who can never get enough of good films. His all time favorites are Inception, 12 Angry Men, and Scarface.

Most of the teen comedies nowadays are more about cheap sex jokes than a good, original story that makes you wanna like, and relate to its characters. Easy A, however, is different than most of the cliché teen comedies you’ve watched.

Molly Ringwald (Emma Stone) is a character that you not only like but easily root for. From the moment she lies about her not being a virgin, and spreading the rumor to up her social status, to the moment when she gets in trouble for spreading the rumors earlier, you stay with her.

Apart from Emma, the supporting cast has done their job perfectly as well. Of course, nothing would have been possible without a strong direction and a good script. Overall, Easy A is one of those rare teen comedies that come along every once in a while.

Being a big fan, I decided to compile a list of movies similar to Easy A. Let’s take a look.

The Duff

Take a look around. Are your friends prettier than you? Congratulations; you are a DUFF – Designated Ugly Fat Friend.

When a young girl fins out that she was nothing more than a duff to her pretty friends, she decides to instigate a social revolution, leading her to realize that being a Duff is cooler than she initially thought.

This comedy flick is funny, romantic, relatable and worth every minute of your time. However, it’s certainly not worth stacking up against the likes of Mean Girls. This movie might be worth watching once, but you won’t want to come back again to give it another go. Mean Girls, on the other head, is a classic. Don’t try to find any deeper meaning hidden beneath, for there is nothing to find. This movie has a simple message for its viewers, which is conveyed pretty clearly – Everybody is a Duff. There is always going to be someone cooler, smarter and richer than you. You have to be comfortable with who you are.

This movie is manages to walk on a thin line of being incredibly funny and overdoing it. With some good, authenticating acting, a lot of references and a heartfelt storyline, The Duff cements its place as one of the must watch movies like Easy A. Keep the movie off kids!

I still remember watching this move for the first time. Fast forward 5 years, it still remains one of my favorites.

The story of four virgin teenagers who who’d do anything to get lucky before they graduate. Setting a goal to do it before prom night, Oz of them starts singing, Finch spreads rumors about him in school, and Kevin tries convincing his girlfriend. Jim is the only one with no real plan to get laid. As prom night inches closer, they beginning wondering whether they really wanna go ahead with this idea?

I am not the one for teen sex flicks, but if a movie is anything like American Pie, sign me up for it any day. This movie is intelligent, genuine, relatable and funny, guaranteed to make you laugh all along the way. I thought the casting and screenplay was really well done. Every character is relatable and multi-dimensional, making them instantly likeable.

Leave your logical brain on the doorsteps and enjoy this movie for what it really is – one of the best teen comedy movies like Easy A. It seems that the writer had only one thing on his mind – to make the script as funny as possible, even if it meant sacrificing rationality. Almost none of the things would really happen in real life, but we’re here to escape the real life for a few hours. And this is why you should give ‘American Pie and its sequel a shot.

Sex Drive

The story revolves around Ian, a high school teenager who is a virgin. He inflates his online profile and manages to meet Ms. Tasty, a girl who promises sex if he comes to meet her. Ian along with his friends Felicia and Lance, heads south in his brother’s car to meet up with her. By the time they reach her place, he learns a lot about what he really wants and begins wondering if hooking up with the girl he met online is the right thing to do. He realizes that he’d like to be more than a friend with Felicia, and the girl who he met online is not really ho she claims she is

I don’t get the flak this movie got when it was released. While it’s not really a teen comedy classic by any stretch, by it’s not a bad movie either. If you love movies like Easy A, I’m sure you’d dig it. I for one loved every single minute of this movie. It’s humorous and crude while managing to be romantic and genuine at the same time.

This is by no means a perfect movie. The dialogues and pacing fall flat at times, leaving a lot more to be desired. However, no movie is perfect. Let’s just focus on what makes this movie a must watch. There is definitely some fall-out-of-the chair movements in this movie. If you want a good laugh, go ahead with this movie. It’s certainly not afraid to get dirty just for a few more chuckles.

Mean Girls - One of the best teen films similar to Easy A

Based on the novel written by Rosalind Wiseman, Mean Girls is a story about a home-school girl brought up in Africa. When she gets back to her home country, she enters a typical high school environment where she must learn to get along with a group of girl called ‘Plastic’. Everything goes fine until she makes the mistake of falling for a hunk, who is an ex of one of the members of the clique. All hell breaks loose when they decide to use harass and bully her for not following the code of conduct of the clique – not falling in love with someone’s ex.

Mean Girls is targeted at a younger audience. Even if you are an adult, you can still have a lot of fun with it. Yes, it’s a silly romantic comedy, but there is a lot of sincerity to it. This movie is fun to watch for every age group, thanks to a young and strong cast and a good storyline that never lets up.

Leap Year

I don’t know whether it’s real or not, but according to this movie, a man must accept the marriage proposal received on a leap day. This is the Irish tradition. When Anna plans travelling to Ireland to propose her boyfriend, she is faced with a lot of hurdles. Will she be there on time?

The plotline sounds vapid from the above statement. It was intentional. You don’t want to know too much about this movie before seeing it. And I’ve made sure that it’s being kept this way.

Sometimes romantic movies can be more comedy than romance and vice versa. This movie, however, blends in both into a perfect mixture and serves it just in right amount at a time. The result is a feel-good, delightful experience that stays with you long after you’ve watched the movie.

Leap Year is predictable at times. There are moments where you’d know what’s going to happen next, but it’s for a good reason. You don’t want some movies to have a twisted, The-Sixth-Sense-Styled ending, especially the romantic movies like Easy A.

The cinematography never ceased to amaze me throughout this movie. The ineffable Irish scenes and accents are the most captivating thing about this movie. Overall, a great feel-good movie. If you are in for some entertainment, you are going to love what Leap Year has to offer.

I Love You, Beth Cooper - A nerdy movie like Easy A

A nerd professes his love for one of the hottest girl in school – Beth Cooper, during the speech. To his surprise, she actually accepts his invitation for graduation party. When she shows up with her friends, he must find out a way to deal with some of the people, including the recently dumped ex of Beth. Will the night turn out just as he’d hoped for?

This is by no means a movie worth watching more than once, but it’s certainly a one-time fun movie. A good movie to watch, especially if you are in school. Oh, and I thought the guy was a bit too nerdy to get her. But that’s just me. Overall, ‘I Love You, Beth Cooper’ is one of the most underrated movies like Easy A.

Twilight - One of the best vampire movies like Easy A

The plot revolves around Bella Swan, a young girl who likes to keep things to herself. With not a lot of friends at her school, she notices Edward Cullen, an unusual, peculiar guy, and soon falls in love with him. When she finds out that he is a vampire, she must make a choice to leave him or stay with him, accepting him for who he is and the risk that comes with being a vampire. When she risks everything to be with him, she gets sucked into a totally new, dangerous world where even vampires aren’t safe. How long can they go against the nature? Can love transcend everything?

I am going to get a lot of flak for saying this, but I loved The Twilight Saga, especially the very first movie. You have to watch the first movie and decide for yourself. If you love it, you might as well go ahead with rest of the saga.

I won’t go as far as to say that acting is really strong or authentic, but the two leads do just enough to make an outworldly romantic movie bring to life. The supporting characters aren’t too bad either.

Everything that’s popular has got a lot of haters. People must love to hate this movie. Yes, Kristen Stewart could have done more justice to her character, but her performance was by no means a disappointment.

If you are looking for a paranormal romantic movie like Easy A, you should go for Twilight.

Wild Child

Wild Child tells the story of Poppy Moore, a spoiled brat who thinks the whole world revolves around her. When her father has had enough of her, he sends her to a boarding school where she realizes that her mean, narcissistic behavior isn’t going to cut it. As the movie progresses, we learn more about her character, and why she is the way she is. Will she ever become a proper boarding school girl?

The plot is far from being original and unpredictable, but pretty entertaining nonetheless. And yeah, totally safe for kids.

I am afraid I must stop here. There are tons of other movies like Easy A, but it’s not possible to list them all here. Do you feel any other movie is missing here? Let me know in the comments section.

Easy A is funny. I think Emma Stone portrayed the character well.
