Movies of Greek Myhtology
Greek mythology and history are constantly being discussed, searched and studied by many people around the world. It has been a very interesting subject for different generations. Many animation movies have been made for our children and many movies kept us for hours in front of the TV screen. For the last decade, Hollywood producers, recognizing the interest in this subject, had created many interesting movies. Some of those movies have been welcomed with enthusiasm and good criticism. We must mention though, that almost none of the greek mythology movies are completely accurate with the legends and the Greek history, which of course, doesn't make them less interesting.
Some of those movies are:
- Alexander the Great
All three movies are based on Greek ancient history.
Top 3 best Greek Mythology Movies
Spartan's military education started at a very early age of their lives, due to constant wars and attacks against the Kingdom of Sparta. People had no choice but to train the absolute warriors of that time. It is worth mentioning that children who were sick or weak usually were killed or sacrificed with the consent of their parents. Extremely cruel rules and heartless behaviour were the only options for them to survive. Children at the age of 12 were already highly trained into fearless warriors.
300 movie is about Spartan warriors who managed to withhold the whole Persian Army. The king of Sparta, Leonidas, was the leader of the warrior Spartans and was fighting among them and not behind lines, as kings did. It is said that if in the battle Spartans were unable to hold the Persian Army long enough, then we would never know Greece as we know the country today. It would be a completely different nation and different country. The world might have never known democracy, theatre and many many other gifts of ancient Greece.
If you like great battle scenes, good acting and Greek Mythology, this movie is a perfect choice.
Troy - Greek Mythology - Movie
Two brothers, two princes Hector and Paris were in Sparta trying to negotiate peace between two kingdoms, Sparta and Troy. But during the visit, the youngest brother, Paris, fell in love with the wife of the king of Sparta, the most beautiful woman in all Greece, Helen. She followed Paris to Troy and Menelaos (king of Sparta) believing that she was kidnapped. He got mad and marched against Troy. Many legendary figures are participating in the war. One of them is Achilles.
The expressions "Achilles heel" and "Trojan Horse" came from the Trojan War.
Alexander The Great Movie
Alexander the Great is called by many military generals as Genius of War Tactics. Legendary Greek Conquerer from the area of the ancient region of Greece called Macedonia (has nothing to do with today's FYROM) managed completely to destroy the Persian Empire and conquer many countries on his way. Unfortunately, the movie is focusing too much on bisexual habits of ancient times, thus distracting from conquer's genius.
As a matter of fact, the war tactics of the great warrior are still being studied in Military Schools and still used in real battles and wars.
It is impossible not to mention Olympias' influence, the mother of Alexander. The role is played by Angelina Jolie. The actress managed to get into the skin of Maenad Olympias and show us the true nature of Dionysos Priestess. It is said that she is the reason that Alexander the Great managed to conquer so many countries. She was constantly telling Alexander that his true father was Zeus and not a mortal King. So he believed that his place was among heroes and demigods. Alexander had the wild and free part of his mother. Few simple words from the mouth of our parents sometimes can affect us and our lives. Alexander the Great is a good example of that. Besides being conqueror, he also wanted to unite all countries and all people together in order to create a strong empire.
All three movies are very interesting and everyone who likes Greek Mythology Movies must see them. If you are interested in purchasing them check out these great offers.

Greek Mythology is considered by many, including myself, an ancient history of Greece. Thank you for your comment.

I like your hub, and I am fascinated by Greek mythology and history, but I believe your hub would be more appropriately titled "Greek History Movies," with the exception of "Troy," of course. The 300 was loosely based on the Battle of Thermopylae, I believe, and Alexander the Great was, of course, a historical figure. The story of Troy does come from the Iliad, by Homer, but I think archaeologists have established there was a real Troy and perhaps a battle might have occurred there.

You should try to find and watch "Helen of Troy" starring Rufus Sewell: it is so much better than Brad Pitt's.
