This plus size goddess from Clinton, Mississippi has appeared in French, Italian, American, and Mexican Vogue. No easy task for any curvy beauty. She has also been a regularly featured full-figure model for Lane Bryant, Evans, Torrid, Dolce & Gabbana, Saks Fifth Avenue and many more.
Crystal Renn has had to battle her own demons, since she was first scouted into the world of glamor at the age of fourteen, to become comfortable with her body, who she wanted to be, and what she wanted to accomplish in life. It has lead her on an unexpected path to being a role model for women of all sizes.
This lens is dedicated to Crystal Renn and her fans.
Three Reasons to Love Crystal Renn
ONE - She is comfortable in her own skin.
TWO - She has created her success on her own terms.
THREE - She is va-va-voom!
The Weight Debate
There has been considerable debate over the last few months about whether Crystal has lost weight. This video from a Canadian photo shoot (The Block) definitely confirms that she has trimmed down her usual curves. Does she still look good? Definitely? Is she still a plus size model? No. Is still a full-figured model? Probably. Will we ever lose the size tags when it comes to modeling? Doubtful. But thin or curvy, I still love to look at her. I hope you do too!

Update: These are not her current stats as she has lost some weight. These were her full-figured stats (Ford Models lists her as a size 8).
She is a "Hungry" Girl
Crystal Renn's autobiography Hungry: A Young Model's Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves was released in September 2009 through Amazon.com or can be ordered via Amazon.ca. As you can see from the image above it was available in two cover choices.
"An inspiring and cautionary tale for women of all ages, Hungry is an uplifting memoir with a universal message about body image, beauty and self-confidence."
The Author Revealed
Crystal shares what she knows. This is actually a superb video of her discussing modeling and the opportunities she's been lucky to have.

The Body Beautiful
In 2006 Crystal Renn participated in a photo shoot for a four page spread in Glamour Magazine.
The sole purpose of the presentation was to display natural beauty at it's finest.

Crystal the Advocate
Crystal Renn is one of the highest paid (and requested) plus size models in the world. She's also becoming quite the advocate for size acceptance.
Recently she appeared alongside other prominent voices on both sides of the debate "is it ok to be fat" on ABC's Nightline. I watched the full 45 minutes and I have to say it was interesting. Both sides make valid points. Now if only they could get together and work something out.
You can find a link for the Nightline debate at the Who is Crystal Renn lens which I just updated.
The Crystal Weight Debate
I think Crystal Renn is a beautiful woman no matter what her size. Do I want her to remain plus size forever? Sure. Because that is what I can relate too. But I totally understand how her body would fluctuates given her hectic and active lifestyle; especially, the last two years.
I find it insane that we would attack her (and many other celebrities) for losing weight. They are just like us and we have to stop putting them up on pedestals like statues that never change their form. If we want people to respect us and our bodies we need to set a better example and accept others for theirs.
When it comes to modeling, I think people need to realize that Crystal's a full-figure model and not a plus size model in the traditional sense. There is a lot of confusion (and some times horror) when it comes to the clothing industries description of plus size (14 to 26) conflicting with the modeling industry's description (8 to 14). Many can not separate the two and many others seem to be offended. It confuses and frustrates people all around. All these things are not Crystal's fault.
Her true fans won't care what division she's in. I think there are just so many people attached to her that are afraid of losing such an obviously beautiful and vocal spokesmodel for their cause: the one where all women are beautiful regardless of their size. But the thing is, Crystal can be an advocate for plus women no matter what size she is.
Show your support by saying something positive and be sure to check out the latest interview link I added between Crystal and Glamour magazine.
Crystal Renn Engages in Food P*&%
Looks like the former plus size model Crystal Renn (Who is Crystal Renn) and fashion photographer Terry Richardson are causing waves in the fat community (and beyond) with a new photo shoot for French Vogue that has her gorging on food in a sexually explicit manner.
Crystal is bedazzled in beautiful jewels and snuggled in gorgeous sweaters while she sits eating (loosely applied) spaghetti, meat, sausage and squid. A few voices have screamed it's a fashion shoot, others that it is art. Personally, I don't care for any of the photos or the gluttony and sexual connotations they showcases.
Does she look beautiful in them? Of course she does, she's a beautiful woman. She is gorgeous in fact (whether she is slim or plus size she IS gorgeous). They went for shock & not for the clothing/jewelry. The sweaters/jewelry become the background in this photo shoot. This isn't art to me. Crystal has been artistically photographed hundreds of time. I've seen it. This is just... well, the only thing that come to mind is "ew".
This is one of those instances where the model (and role model for women over a wide range of ages) should have used her brains and said "no".
You can see images for this photo shoot on plus size model Mia Amber's blog.

She is stunning!
Moe Wood (author) from Eastern Ontario on March 07, 2012:
@Thrinsdream: Definitely not anymore for sure. I think she is down to a size 6 now. Even at her biggest I don't think she was above 14. Which really, in clothing size rides the wave between straight and plus sizes. But the fashion world labeled her full-figure and eventually plus size replaced that. Thanks Cathi.
Thrinsdream on March 06, 2012:
She is not exactly BIG is she! Beautiful woman though. Lovely lens. Thank you. Cathi x
Moe Wood (author) from Eastern Ontario on March 04, 2012:
@Gypzeerose: Yes... and No. ;D In the runway and print fashion industry size 8 to 14 is considered to be a full-figured model, 14-18 a plus size model, although there are many models above that size who get regular work too.
In the clothing industry plus size generally starts at 14 but many companies are starting at 10, not because they think those sizes should be classified as plus but because those sizes have shown an interest in their clothing.
I think we all need to work toward size acceptance for all sizes big and small. It is just a number or label, and not the be all and end all of us as women -- being plus size is not a curse, it is just a number.
Rose Jones on March 04, 2012:
Is size 10-14 plus sized? Actually size 14 is average for American women. We need to get a grip. I think Crystal is beautiful. :)

I didn't recognize her until I saw the cover of "Hungry", which I read about a while ago, and still that picture sticks in my mind. This woman is gorgeous! I can't believe she is (or was) considered "plus size", she is healthy and gorgeous! There is a proper amount of fat on her body. she actually has curves, it's fantastic. I am sortof sorry to hear she lost weight, really, because she seemed like such a good advocate for "you don't have to be stick thin", and by losing weight that sortof shadows her strength as an plus-size advocate, in my eyes. Well, she's still beautiful, and hopefully she is still being a model "her way"! Also thanks for pointing out the other plus size models...I am curious...

@anonymous: I weigh 175 and am a size 10-12. It depends on your body fat distribution (very proportional), frame, and muscle, and height of course. Im 5 ft 7 i would say average.

@anonymous: Mr. Tideman, Crystal is beautiful as is- she is NOT A PLUS size woman and I'm sure works out already. She has curves and something to hold on to, it you catch my drift. SKINNY IS OUT!
anonymous on July 22, 2010:
Crystal Renn is beautiful, and a SIZE 10 IS NOT PLUS SIZE! If this society believes sizes 10-14 are plus size, then beliefs and what a woman should LOOK like in others' eyes, are EXTREMELY living in the HOLLYWOOD DREAM WORLD! Women that were photographed in the 1940-1950s were "hourglass shape" and beautiful. This fantasy that all women need to be a size 0-6 is strictly for hollywood. Most of the actors/actress types from hollywood are UNREALISTIC sizes and all of the women that are on TV shows/movies, etc. are PATHECTICALLY SKINNY AND DON'T LOOK HEALTHY!
anonymous on July 22, 2010:
A size 10 is not a plus size model. Show us someone who is a 22.
anonymous on July 22, 2010:
She is beautiful but I think it's sad a size 10 is considered a Plus Size!
anonymous on July 22, 2010:
how do you stuff 165 lbs into a size 10? i weigh 10 lbs less and am lucky to get into a 14.must be the cut.
anonymous on July 18, 2010:
@anonymous: Jane, You must have more muscle is the answer, like Tina Lockwood, the body-builder, of which if Renn were to hit the gym to sculpt her legs and add on an extra inch of bicep muscle she would indeed be THE most gorgeous woman in THE world! Take a look at her briefcase over the head photo in black dress at the mis-spelling of Crystal Wren at GOOGLE, with the letter: W (under the big W in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" - her a treasure galore!), reminds me of Gale Sondergaard as Tylette in "The Blue Bird" movie of 1940 and her running through the forest fire. Here today after seeing her on today's Charles Osgood's CBS "Sunday Morning" TV show.
anonymous on May 23, 2010:
@anonymous: Would you clarify what size chart you are utilising - Australian, American, United Kingdom or European. I am exactly her height and weight and I wear a size 14 (Australian). So if you are using an Australian size chart there would be no way you could be her height and weight and wear a size 8.

The most beautiful women ever! A true Goddess! Makes my heart purr like a cat.
anonymous on November 11, 2009:
Seriously, she is amazingly beautiful. Though I am a little confused about her weight? I am exactly the same height and have literally exactly the same measurements though a slightly larger bust - 38D and am an Australian size 16 (US 12 I believe) however I weigh almost 200lbs.
Perhaps it's just ditributed unevenly in my head or something???
I think she's a great inspiration though and whenever I feel a bit down about my size, I come have a look at some pics of her and she inspires me to be proud of what and who I naturally am
anonymous on October 09, 2009:
anonymous on September 07, 2009:
There's no way Crystal Renn weighs 165 lbs, because at my height... my weight would be pretty equivalent, and I wear a size 8. I hate it when they knock down/up plus size models weights (like how many different numbers have we heard for Marilyn Monroe?) Crystal clearly weighs more, and that's fine.. she's gorgeous, but let's not be in denial!
anonymous on August 29, 2009:
I think that Crystal is a beautiful woman. I have never understood men that love stick women, if there's no curves there's nothing to catch the eye. I am one of a growing number of men and women that feel that "Healthy" beauty such as Crystal's is the best. I am glad to see that the world didn't ruin her. Stay beautiful and know there are many people out there that draw courage from you.

The sad thing is that she is being touted as a "plus size" model. Crystal is a size 12. That's isn't plus sized - that's actually the average American woman.
