BODY PAINTING - FOR MEN`s EYES ONLY? Can Ladies Enjoy the View as well?

This Hub is created randomly, while I was searching for some photos for my another Hub, I came to the contact with many interesting body painting - images.

From the another point of view, I had seen in past months so many "Hot sexy pics" Hubs, so for difference, let us see the body as a canvas for artists. Honestly I hoped that I will be able to present equal number of female and male photos, but was disappointed after I discovered that majority of truly beautiful body painting is done on female bodies.

So there are only 4 "only male" photos there, sorry ladies, it is not my fault...

We are very often hypocritical about our bodies, but they are beautiful art of nature and certainly they are our vehicles which lead us in ecstasy or pain, lust or trouble, in younger age seems that everything is arriving at the same time.

Gender is determining us each of us to the high point and every gender has its own problems when is connected with the body issues. To no-one is easy to understand and control his/her own body (especially in young days), and is even more complicated to find the way how to communicate, understand and explore somebody else`s body especially when this other person has different gender.

Men certainly see us with different eyes even as artists.

Even through the art of body painting we can perceive the difference:

1. First set of photos is done by male artist. They are beautiful and connect women with natural forces within, what is very often topic of the body-art. But if you look more closely on the design of some of his body paintings, you will notice painted "fearful faces " on two photos as well as please observe the black lady and the big eyes on her body, she is obviously hiding herself from her own beauty and sexuality.

Through this, author expressed his subconscious fear from female energy (I did not show all his photos so know what am talking about) although he admires strength of the woman and through his own fears, he has shown us so many other things as well:

  • fears which every woman carries within - fears from her own natural force, fears from her own sexuality , fears from her own beauty ... A lot of issues to work with.

His body painting is really masterwork:

Scroll to Continue

2. This beautiful set of photos come from body painting festival from South Korea. The artists ARE WOMEN. You will perceive beautiful colors, tender energy, and also connection through the world of natureal forces through creating fairies and other spirits of nature:

Finally for "GIRLS EYES ONLY"....Were are these hot sexy creatures from our wildest dreams??

I have found the photo of one guy, who was masculine enough to be interesting, but he asked money for downloading the photo. Whatever is his opinion about his body, he did not look SO good, ha, ha....

Photos here express beautiful colourful soul of modern man, and I think that first two are done by female artist, what I would not say for the third one. For the forth photo I can say that he has whole harem of female faces on his skin, so very probably the artist is man.

Someting cute for the end.

Last few pictures are done on hands (arms) are not they just - beautifull??

Hi Tatjana, I am a face and body painter and have been for coming up to 6 years now so I can answer some of the questions that have been put forth on the subject.

The male body is a great one to paint, but I prefer them to be either very slender or very muscular. The reason being that the paint looks better on them. Although almost any male willing to be painted would get painted by me because male models are so hard to come by. Which is where the problem is for most artists. It's not that they don't look as good or that its better for marketing its just that not enough men are willing to be painted.

I myself am fascinated by tattoos but prefer the temporary solution of body paint and the greatest thing about it is you can have a different design each and every day if you like! As for washing the paint off, most quality brands of body paint will wash off easily with plenty of water and a little soap.

For everyone to wear body paint every day it most certainly would not be cheaper as they are very costly indeed! lol.

Thanks for the great hub, I love your portrayal of the artists work and you have even put 1 or 2 photos up that even I haven't seen.

Thank you so much for your visits and comment. Very happy new year wishes and blessings to you as well.

Hi Tatjana,

This is absolutely incredible. I have never seen anything like this before, especially at the end when the hands are used. This is stunning and truly an artform that not everyone would be able to accomplish. What I was wondering as I can see are others, how does it all come off in the end? Is there a special way to clean all the paint off when you are finished showing off all the beautiful work that has been done. I have looked at it at least six times now.

Just simply amazing God Bless from BB

Hi, my question is how the models can stay still long enough to let the artist do his/her work.

Tatjana-Mihaela (author) from Zadar, CROATIA on November 18, 2009:

Thank you Mike, for your comment.

I have found some photos of body painted men which is more suitable for carnevall then for presenting art of body I did not show them at all. I think the reason why women are more represented in art of body painting is - marketing. Female body is far more interesting for the public.

Well, men like to choose exactly "the battle" style of painting in the highest percentage of photos found. What is also interesting.

Thank you for your comment, MIke, you are very welcome here.

Mike Lickteig from Lawrence KS USA on November 18, 2009:

Your observations about the lack of male photos demonstrating body painting is a good one, and I began wondering about why that might be. Without thinking about it too much, a few thoughts came to mind: the male body is more muscular, and muscularity might make it more difficult to both envision or execute body art. Maybe it is more difficult to paint on a man. My second thought is one of wondering if we react in fear to men with body paint, reminiscent of times when men painted their faces and bodies before going into battle. Do men look too "fearsome" (for lack of a better word) when covered with paint, causing our response to be negative?

Well, those are my guesses.

Very interesting post. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you MG, I am glad you liked them. I learned how to read art in the school days as well and through the work with symbols and my own art, so it was my pleasure to analyse the body paintings.

My intention was to show much more male photos, but unfortunately, only these 4-5 were really OK.

Thank you very much for the visit and comment.

Money Glitch from Texas on November 17, 2009:

Tatjana, thanks for taking the time to explain some of the things the artists might have been thinking and or feeling via body painting.

Tatjana-Mihaela (author) from Zadar, CROATIA on November 17, 2009:

Hi, Mary, "Henna tatoos" are temporary tatoos, they get washed after week or so, this is only option I would say yes for.

Body painting is beautiful, but because I am too ticklish, nobody could paint - me.

Body painting is certainly NOT popular in Croatia...

But I love all these photos I have found, especially this fairy creatures from South Korea...

I am glad you liked them...

There is no end to creativity, LOL. I was chuckling at the thought of me in body paint, can't see it, unless its just to have fun. Though I have a good friend who is a tattoo artist and I wrote a hub about her work, I also don't like tattoos, but art that can be washed off stands a better chance with me.

Thanks for another entertaining and well done hub!

Tatjana-Mihaela (author) from Zadar, CROATIA on November 16, 2009:

I do not like tatoos as well, they might be magnificent, but they stay on skin forever... and they permanently damage the skin.

I needed one afternoon to collect photos, few additional hours to sort them nicely, and few hours to think about appropriate it is a lot of work, thank you for noticing.

Thank you so much for your visit.

dohn121 from Hudson Valley, New York on November 16, 2009:

Holy cow! These are awesome! I wonder how long it took you to find all of these fabulous works of art? I really enjoyed this, so thank you! Although I don't like tatoos, bodypainting is an entirely different matter, so thank you, Tatjana-Mihaela for sharing this...The toughest thing for me to do is to pick a favorite!
