Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) Movie Review

Jared has been a fan of the DC Universe, reading comics since middle school. He has years of experience in the topic

A Worthy Movie for the DC Universe

Zack Snyder takes the dud which was found within the first Justice League (2016) and gives us a cut showing the pure entertainment which can be found within it.

Determined to not let the sacrifice of Superman die in vain, Bruce Wayne travels across the world to recruit a team of heroes to fight the inevitable war that will come to Earth.

Zack Snyder's Justice League has a star-covered cast including Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Lois Lane (Amy Adams) Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Lex Luthor (Jessie Eisenberg).

As a person who grew up reading Batman comics, I was praying that this cut would make me love the Justice League movie and it achieved that. Was it perfect? No far from it at times but it has far improved since we first saw it. The length was indeed long, but it fleshed out many parts that truly needed it. The atmosphere of the movie improved and the fight scenes were brutal and graphic. A good DC movie should not hold back when it comes to fights and here it did as much. When someone died you knew they died, it's not like they just fell to the ground. Now I will be going into full-on spoiler territory, so make sure to watch the movie and then come back if you have not seen it yet.

The ending scene where Martian Manhunter was introduced had me shouting in excitement. Finally, we get to see an essential JLA member appear. There is so much much-untapped potential in the universe, that if they continue down this path I can vision the number of quality movies we could see in the future. When the movie seems like it is tapped out of quality it adds more, showing that Deathstroke will be used in the future. Deathstroke aka Slade Wilson is a character that I have wanted to see appear in movies for a long time. The number of angles and story arcs that he has been in, the character can be used in many different aspects. Even Jared Leto which had the worst Joker performance by far is redeemed seeing him in an alternate universe where Darkseid has already won was a great surprise.

Now I will go into some of the things that bothered me about the movie. Alfred (Jeremy Irons) bothered me throughout the movie. He didn't seem like Alfred he just seemed like a friend who continued to steal Batman's spotlight. Alfred is a wise man who raised Bruce after his parents were murdered in an alley, not what was seen here. Adding onto this Batman is known as one of the most influential figures in all of DC and he has a real problem getting any of the heroes to aid him within the movie. Batman is known as a charismatic playboy who can persuade anyone but he feels like he takes a side role even though he is supposed to be the main protagonist.

In the first half of the movie, we see Flash as a kid who cannot control his powers, when in reality he is one of the most dangerous combatants in the DC universe. For example, when the underground is flooded by the Gotham Harbor by Steppenwolf, he has to be saved like a child. You are telling me with his powers he had to be saved? Even with the injury, this made him look weak and useless.

Let me break down some of the powers Barry Allen possesses. When he taps into the speed force he can turn invisible. That would have been very useful to not be homed onto by the turrets (then shot) which slowed him down and almost caused the whole plan to fall apart. I was happy to see him use one of his less-known powers being able to move through time, which ended up saving everyone in the end. But everyone forgets on a one-on-one fight Flash can beat many villains and most minions don't stand a chance against him.

Zack Snyder's Justice League should send the DCEU in a direction that will get people interested in the universe once again. With the new Batman coming out within the year, I can see DC taking over Marvel in the coming year.

Overall Score: 8.5 out of 10
