Andreas "Andi Deris" singing on stage
A brief introduction to the uniqueness of Andi Deris
Andi Deris of the German power metal band Helloween is the most unique and underrated vocalist in the heavy metal genre today. I say this because there is no heavy metal vocalist that I’ve heard that sounds like him. He has a good, soothing low voice. He can sing very well at the medium pitch and he can also sing high and creatively without straining his voice and taking it too far.
When did the voice of Andi Deris reach its peak?
Andi Deris’ vocal skills and prowess may be at its peak in his 1997 solo album called Come in from the Rain. Of course, I had been listening to Andi Deris even before this album was released. The same vocalist that excited and impressed me with songs such as Livin’ My Life for You and Talk to the Moon shows why he is heavy metal’s most underrated vocalist. His solo project eventually became the band known as Andi Deris and the Bad Bankers.

Songs such as House of Pleasure and Think Higher! showcase the power and uniqueness of Andi's voice
The first song House of Pleasure starts with some distorted bass guitar before the song becomes a sort of heavy rock tune. The song is about doing what you can to have pleasure in your life like having parties at your house or a friend’s house. Sometimes, lie is not as easy as it seems and much hard work must be done in order to get that feeling of accomplishment so you can have some pleasure every once in a while. Come in from the Rain is a song about seeking GOD’s love and guidance in the quest to be led to a better life, to a place where you are loved, respected, and gain wisdom. Then comes the amazing song Think Higher! The song showcases the power and melody of Andi Deris and I’m sure even Mark Boals couldn’t compete with him. The song is about thinking higher, thinking that you can be strong and that nothing can go wrong in your quest to become the best version of yourself. As the song says: “everyone pictures to become somebody.” We all have visions, goals and dreams to become somebody. I always knew that I wanted to be a published writer and that dream has now become a reality.
The song called House of Pleasure
The band members of Helloween help out with a contribution for one of the songs
There is a contribution by Helloween members Michael Weikath, Markus Grosskopf, and Roland Grapow on the song “The King of 7 Eyes.” Foreign Rainbow is once again another great melodic song and Andi’s voice fits perfectly! Sometimes we find the hope and the courage to carry on with our lives when times are tough. Andi Deris’ vocals are a coping mechanism for me! Somewhere, Someday, Someway is about someone picturing in their mind the right type of person that they will spend the rest of their life with. It is said that there is someone for everyone.

The song called Now That I Know This Ain't Love
Andi Deris can also sing in ballad style songs as well
The song “Now That I Know This Ain’t Love” is a ballad song about someone that has given their heart and soul to someone he loved and this person has made him lose faith in her because she has deceived him and left him. Could I Leave Forever is probably my favorite song in the album. It is about someone trying to leave his hometown and go to a warmer climate where he can lay down on the beach and build sandcastles. So many Europeans leave their colder countries for warmer climates such as Spain. Sometimes, the costs add up so much in people’s lives that this is why you will hear some people say “life’s a b****. My perspective is that life is what we make of it. The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence. But nonetheless, we hear the passion, strength, and uniqueness of Karlsruhe, Germany’s Andi Deris.
How does Andi Deris compare to some other power metal vocalists?
If Sabina Classen of the band Holy Moses is great enough as a thrash metal singer to be loved, then Andi Deris is one of the best power metal singers that should be listened to by the heavy metal community. His voice is in pitch, relaxing, and just an overall pleasure to listen to. To put some perspective, I will compare Andi Deris to some of the other notable power metal vocalists.
Eduard Hovinga formerly of the band Elegy: he has a great, towering high-pitched voice but not one of the best low voices.
Fabio Lione formerly of the band Rhapsody of Fire: Great operatic style of voice.
Andre Matos: good overall voice with passion and power but still he is not unique enough. Note: as of June 8, 2019, Andre Matos passed away due to a heart attack.

Final thoughts about Andi Deris
The bottom line is that heavy metal fans should give Andi Deris a chance because his voice will leave you in awe and your life may be saved because you will know how much of valuable contribution he has made to heavy metal. From the moment he joined Helloween, he has taken that band to greater levels of publicity and fame in Germany. One of the highlights in his career is when he sings on the song called Why. The song is about seeking the love of GOD when you need the strongest force to lift you and guide you through times of loneliness, despair, and sadness. GOD is love and he has been responsible for giving humans such as Andi Deris the ability to show why he is one of the best power metal singers as well!
