I'm an entrepreneur with a variety of interests that range from comics to anime.
Whelp, after all that wait, we finally got a trailer for the film. It looked better than expected, but there's more to this than that. Thus let's get into what we know so far.
What we know so far...
The Super Mario Bros. was announced in 2017, and last September during Nintendo Direct. All they announced was that it was animated by Illumination Studios, and the cast. The reaction to Chris Pratt and Mario, Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Anya Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Keegan Michael Key as Toad.
The reactions were a mixture of disbelieve and meme worthy delight. It was originally slated for December 21 2022 release, but after Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri talked it over back in April, they decided to delay the film. It’s not clear on why they delayed though I suspect that they wanted to avoid competing with Puss In Boots:The Last Wish. I initially thought it was because they thought they’d be beaten by Puss In Boots in the box office.
But according to Meledandri during the Nintendo Direct on October 6th, Illumination was in the final animation stages. This implies that the making of the film took longer than expected, which is understandable.
In Conclusion I’m cautiously optimistic as the trailer looks great, but given Illumination is behind the animation and production, my hopes aren’t high. Because Illumination’s thing is making safe and disposable kids’ movies. As a result I’m not expecting much, and will see how this turns out.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie will drop April 7th 2023. And I’m somewhat hopeful that it’ll be good.
