Triple Crowns: Albums With Three Consecutive Classic Cuts
Lou Reed's Most Famous Record Made the List, Even Without a Walk on the Wild Side
“Shock the Monkey” came on the television screen, right as I was ready to go to bed. Since it was one of my favorite videos from MTV's early days, I naturally watched for the next four minutes.
No sooner had Peter Gabriel faded out than another classic video began, “She Blinded Me with Science” by Thomas Dolby. Eight minutes later I still had not gone to bed, for David Bowie's “Ashes to Ashes” had aired.
It had been a long time since I had seen in succession three of my favorite videos of yesteryear, or for that matter, three of my favorite songs. It caused me to ponder the rare instances where an album contains in order three of your favorite tracks, so you need not lift the needle from the turntable for a considerable period.
Bob Dylan has two albums that easily qualify, and he comes close on Highway 61 Revisited and Bringing It All Back Home. “Motorpsycho Nitemare”, “My Back Pages” and “I Don't Believe You” are found in succession on side two of Another Side of Bob Dylan, while Blonde on Blonde boasts back to back to back “I Want You”, “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again” and “Leopard-Skin Pillbox Hat.”
Here are fifteen other albums that provide three straight slices of aural delight, listed in order underneath.
