Recently, I started watching Shoujo Anime, thinking that I've seen too much shonen and I should give it a try.To my surprise, there are good shoujo anime shows to watch, and especially to the girls out there, it will surely wake the inner 'shoujo-ness' in you! Not just about love and romance, these anime shows are worth watching because of the good plot twist, humor, comedy, and life lessons.
Anyway, here are my top 5 shoujo anime, so far:
5. Yamato Nadeshiko (2006)
Literally, 'Yamato Nadeshiko' in Japanese is a term used to describe an idealized Japanese woman, "the epitome of pure, feminine beauty". It is also used to describe a shy young girl or woman. It's pretty cute how the term goes with the story, as Sunako Nakahara, the female protagonist, detests all forms of beauty, making her a unique, creepy-looking girl who likes to live in the darkness along with her anatomical dummy friends. She is often seen in her chibi form, although when her human form is seen, she is revealed to be a beautiful girl (and unfortunately she isn't aware of how beautiful she is T_T). Sunako lives inside a mansion, owned by her aunt Noi Nakahara, along with four handsome boys-Yuki, Ranmaru, Takenaga, and Kyohei. Living with these four beautiful creatures makes Sunako's life hard, because she likes to live in solitude, dark, and watch gore and horror movies inside her room, while the four boys has a mission to change her into a beautiful maiden, as requested by Noi, in return to their mansion rent. Now, the big question is, will the four boys make it? Can they change Sunako?
Yamato Nadeshiko is a good anime which teaches us about life, rejection, beauty, and love. It is a funny anime that will make you laugh, an emotional anime that will make you inspire, a horror anime that will make you chill your spines, and most of all, a cute romantic anime that will melt away your heart.
4. Ouran High School Host Club (2006)
Ouran High School Host Club doesn't have your typical female hero, because Haruhi Fujioka is a smart and intelligent girl, but she is so straightforward and simple that she doesn't even care whether she looks like a girl or not. (Yes, she is boyish) Despite her family condition, she is enrolled in a prestigious private high school, the Ouran High, accepting her through scholarship reasons and such. Her story began by accidentally entering the Host Club room. The host club members, Honey, Mori, Hikaru and Kaoru, Kyoya, and Tamaki, thought of her as a by at first, but later on, learned that she is actually a pretty girl and her intelligence and skills makes them like her sooo much.
Another funny anime, Ouran High School Host Club has other side stories, just like Haruhi's family background, Tamaki's family relationship with Kyoya, Kaoru and Hikaru's story, and Honey and Mori's story. This anime will definitely make you fall in love! The cuteness of Honey-senpai and Mori's poker face, the brotherly love of Hikaru and Kaoru, Kyoya's sophisticated acts, and Tamaki's handsome face (and sometimes idiot-ness) will surely take your heart away.

3. Uta No Prince-Sama (2013)
Prepare yourselves to sing and dance, because Uta no Prince-Sama will make your heart go 'doki-doki' as you see Otoya Itoki, Masato Hijirikawa, Tokiya Ichinose, Ren Jinguji, Natsuki Shinomiya, and Syo Kurusu performs onstage! This musical anime will surely keep you alive as you hear the original songs composed by our heroine, Haruka Nanami. She is a shy but talented girl who aspires to be a composer. In this anime, she is with our boys, making music and facing problems in order to reach their goals and dreams.
What I liked in this anime, aside from the characters and good animation, is the musical element. As a music lover, who wouldn't want to hear the beautiful music and original OSTs that will surely capture your heart for a moment! Of course, I also liked the simplicity of the story. About Haruka's partner, I ship her with Tokiya, but I also like Itoki because he's kind and cute.
This anime has already 2 seasons-the Maji Love 1000% and Maji Love 2000%. The good news is... there would be a third season this 2015, and it's going to be Uta no Prince-Sama Revolution! So fans, get ready and prepare yourselves because these guys will be back and I'm pretty sure this is going to be another good season that is worth watching for!

Lovely Complex (2007)
I cannot actually recall how many times did I laugh throughout the show, but I assure you that this will make you laugh more than a hundred.
Risa Koizumi is a beautiful, cheerful girl, while Otani Atsushi is a smart and good-looking guy. They would be perfect for each other except for one big reason: She is tall and he is short. Together, they are teased in school as 'Hanshin-Kyojin' because of their height differences, and this makes their relationship too complicated, aside from Otani being so dense, numb and clueless about Risa's feelings towards him. There are many trials and problems between them, and it is for you to find out how these two overcome the hurdles of their relationship. But I'm telling you, prepare to laugh because this is the best rom-com anime I've seen so far, and I've never laughed the way I did in here than in other anime. This is also the first time that I hated such male protagonist, and the main reason is for being so dense! Otani is probably one of the densest character in the history of anime!
Lovely Complex is definitely a good romantic-comendy anime! There are also cute sidestories which gives more feeling and interest to the story.

1. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun (2014)
The best way to describe this anime is: A highly respectable romantic comedy anime. Why? Because it's funny, and yet, it's brilliant. Nozaki Umetaro is a mangaka, popularly known as the Ken-san. His manga, the Monthly Girls' Romance, is a big hit, but he himself doesn't have any experience in love. Instead, in real life, he is another dense character who is very blunt and straightforward. He doesn't show too much feelings. Sakuya Chiyo, on the other hand, is a cute girl who has a crush on Nozaki. She tried her very best to confess to him, but since he is dense, he thought of Sakura as one of his fans and gave her his autograph. Pretty cool, huh?
Aside from these two characters, there are also other unique characters, like Mikoshiba, a handsome guy but deep inside, he is actually an introvert, Kashima, a handsome-looking girl, and Seo, an athletic girl with the voice of an angel. Their story contributes to the goodness of this anime and I hope that this anime gets a second season, because it's nice, funny, and cute. I like the story and the characters, it's simply brilliant. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is worth watching, even if you don't really prefer watching shoujo anime.

I feel it is a decent anime to watch since I am wahcting it weekly. However, I feel skip beat is better. It isn't really a maid theme anime with lots of fan service. Most probably u are going to see some guys being whacked up by the maid instead XDThe main female character is the school council's president who acted like an iron lady. Because her family is poor, she had no choice but to work in a maid cafe since the job is well paid and less tiring, allowing her to juggle with her studies, student council job and money. So it is really funny to see her trying all means to conceal the fact tat she is actually a maid when she is in school. And if you have nothing in your list to watch at the moment, I recommend you go watch K-on. It is really a very very good anime despite how u say tat I like it only for the MOE girls oTL

I love Cardcaptor Sakura too! That reminds me of the old good days, back when I was still a young girl :) Thanks for sharing me about Maison Ikkoku, I'll find some time to watch it ^_^

I have some friends watching Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, and I'd like to fit it into my schedule, but just haven't gotten there yet. I did love Ouran High School Host Club, which is in many ways a delightful show. I'd have to say probably the most decidedly shoujo series I've seen that were really good (sorry, Sailor Moon) would be Cardcaptor Sakura and SuperGALS! Both are definite essentials in the shoujo genre. My absolute favorite, however, which may qualify more as a josei than a true shoujo, is the Rumiko Takahashi classic Maison Ikkoku. In fact, it is my favorite anime series, period. Takahashi's series always straddle the line gender-wise (her several shounen series tend to appeal as well to shoujo audiences), but Ikkoku is far more clearly on the shoujo/ josei side of the line than any other lengthy series she's done, and I seriously rate it as one of the best romantic dramedies in existence. Anyway, fun hub, and I now have yet another reason to try to watch Nozaki-kun.
