Initial Considerations: How This Strongest One Piece List Was Made
Who are the top 10 strongest pirates from One Piece?
Well, this is a question fans do to each other all the time. It’s great to talk about how your favorite One Piece characters are underrated and on how you think Pirate X beats Pirate Y.
But we’ve added a lot of considerations to the list, and the one you should know is that we:
- Considered all of the characters in the show until now, including marines (so not just pirates);
- Left out the two MVPs, Gol D. Roger and Whitebeard (I think it would make the top of the list less interesting as they would be a guaranteed presence).
So, having these considerations in mind, know that at the time of writing this article the show isn’t over yet, so the list may yet suffer some changes.
Also, Oda has claimed the manga will last until 2025, so I guess this article still has a lot of room to change, but as it stands this is my answer.
All in all, that’s what I wanted to say. If this seems like a cool read, then grab your Rum bottle and start reading.
10 – Roronoa Zoro: The Cool Sidekick
This character is among one of the most favorited One Piece characters of all time, and for good reason.
The guy is cool and he lifts some pretty interesting weights. He wants to be the strongest swordsman in the world and overcome Dracule Mihawk.
Zoro is extremely powerful, and I think we didn’t see his full potential yet. I wager that at the end of the series his position will be higher.
The strongest swordsman of the future, in my opinion.
9 – Sabo: The Chief of Staff
Dragon’s right-hand guy is a powerhouse in his own right and definitely deserves a spot in this list as I think there are few characters out there that can fight him 1on1 with ease (actually, I think that number is 8 people).
He is still a developing character, and there’s still potential for him to grow and develop during the series.
What do you think?
I think that considering Mera Mera no Mi and the Armament Haki, you got to give him a lot of merits. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sabo would overthrow Dragon himself.
8 – Akainu: The Fleet Admiral
This guy commands some serious respect, and of course, he is one of the strongest characters in One Piece.
He has peaked, however, and I don’t see him developing more. Overall, I suspect he is going to show his full might against our Luffy, and when the series ends I think he will retain his spot in this list.
7 – Garp: The Hero
Garp is a character I symphatize a lot with, and he is of course the Hero of the Marines and Vice-Admiral of the Navy.
He is still very powerful, and the fact that his age is advanced means he has probably passed his prime, so we can think he was stronger… arguably, but that’s a fair assumption.
Garp is a monster physically and that’s why I think he was actually stronger when he was young, but regardless he is a force to be reckoned with.
Nobody knows where the limit on Garp's power was when at his prime, but if pushed, I think Garp could beat Akainu.
6 – Trafalgar Law: The Surgeon of Death
Law is extremely influential and he was the one who triggered the war.
When we consider Kaido, we can be pretty sure Law will play a pivotal role in his takedown.
Only the author can say how much power will Trafalgar Law gain while his character develops, but even as he stands now he is definitely a powerhouse that you can’t discard, and he already proved his worth.
Maybe he’ll become on the Yonko and gather the respect he deserves.
5 – Eustass Kid: Another Pirate King
Luffy wants to be the future Pirate King, a dream you know Eustass Kid also has.
He already did a lot to pursue his dream, much like Luffy, so he had his fair share of fights where he demonstrated why I think he deserves this spot on the list.
Kid also wants to take down Kaido, though he mostly does it because of the fame and reputation this feat will bring him.
My best guess is that he will be a Yonko, same as Law.
4 – Shanks: Red Hair Means No Soul
So, the Captain of the Red-Hair Pirates sits at number four.
He is a captain of the Yonko and he is a target, but I don’t see him getting taken down as the manga is progressing.
On the other hand, he is presently the fourth strongest in the One Piece world, and he probably was one of the strongest people to have ever graced the sea.
Luffy made a promise, and you know that as animes go, these promises get kept, which means Shanks will probably be a powerhouse at the time Luffy fulfills it.
3 – Monkey D. Dragon: Bring Up the Revolution
You knew Dragon was around here somewhere.
The top dog of the Revolutionary Army and widely considered to be the worst criminal, he is a titan and this is easily proven even just by looking at his number two – Sabo – and how even a simple right-hand man can fight an Admiral.
Dragon, of course, maintains his position because he is even more powerful, and you just can’t help but think it would be a great thing if he started a fight with the World Government as well.
How chaotic and cool would that be?
2 – Blackbeard: The Legend
Teach, the man himself, Blackbeard the terror of the high seas and one of the Four Emperors.
He has phenomenal power and I’m pretty sure that since he has all this power and the two devil fruits’ abilities, as well as the strongest Logia and Paramecia, he has everything one could have wished for in the world of One Piece.
I still don’t know if he can consume more Devil Fruits, but just imagine if he could.
Towards the end of the series, I anticipate we will have more moments where Blackbeard will demonstrate his full power, to show why Teach isn’t to be trifled with.
1. Monkey D. Luffy: The Protagonist, Of Course!
I know this answer is probably going to have a lot of people triggered, but Luffy is the number one guy as he will finish the series as the Pirate King.
He will have conquered the oceans, and he will undoubtedly SMASH everyone’s power levels with his big fat power charts.
Only time and the rest of the manga can tell if he will surpass Whitebeard and Gol D. Roger, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
However, those days are still ahead of us, and I’m not seeing them coming anytime close.
Some Final Considerations: About the Top 10 Strongest One Piece Characters List
I don’t say this is the ultimate list and the one that should be taken as Gospel.
This is just my opinion as a fan, and a lot of anime and manga have to go under the bridge until we can craft a definitive list, so stay tuned for that, in 2025-2026 probably.
We’ll see. I hope you enjoyed this take on One Piece and on what I think are the Top 10 Strongest One Piece characters.
