Something to Talk About
Something to Talk About is a 1995 American romantic comedy directed by Lasse Hallström. The screenplay is written by Callie Khouri who deals well with woman oriented subjects. Julia Roberts plays the role of a rebellious wife in the film. The other cast of the film includes Robert Duvall, Dennis Quaid , Gena Rowlands, Kyra Sedgewick and Haley Aull. Something to Talk About is the story of a wife (Grace King Bichon played by Julia Roberts) who discovers her Husband’s ( Eddie Bichon played by Dennis Quaid) infidelity. Grace Bichon leads a busy life taking care of her daughter and working at the horse farm of her father (Wyly King played by Robert Duvall). She does not have much time for her husband Eddie. When she discovers that her husband was cheating behind her back, she is furious and hurt. To her surprise, she finds people advising her to forgive and forget the infidelity of her husband and not make a big deal of it. Even Grace’s father refuses to side with her and accuses her of trying to humiliate her family. Grace’s mother , on the other hand, thinks that being kind and forgiving to an unfaithful husband is part of the duty of a wife. However, Grace finds support in her sister Emma Rae (played by Kyra Sedgwick).
Though the movie is classified as a ‘romantic film’, I don’t see anything romantic in the film (not when love is lost between the husband and wife). But yes, the movie is sort of entertaining and has many fun moments. The film was moderately successful at the Box Office and earned Kyra Sedgwick a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

I love Julia Roberts and didn't realize that I'd seen most of these movies. It brought back so many happy memories. This is a great article, and an amazing tribute to a great actress.

Julia Roberts is my favorite actress and my favorite movie of hers is Pretty woman. I enjoyed this hub!
Suzie from Carson City on May 10, 2015:
Julia is a special actress and I've seen most of her movies. I loved "Something to Talk About" and of course, "Pretty Woman" as much a fantasy as it was.....but that's what going to the movies is all about. A step outside our ordinary mundane lives.
The survey surprised me in a way.....I expected"Pretty Woman" to rank high, but I didn't think my favorite "Sleeping with the Enemy" would come in third. Totally different genres of film, but the latter had me sitting literally on the edge and chewing on my fingers....I have never seen such an incredibly frightening face as the one on that actor who played her psychotic husband!!......OMG. If he came at me, I'd pass out cold...instantly!!.....Very nice reviews. UP++

She is just a great actress and of course I voted for Pretty Woman as the best movie out of that bunch. What did you all think of her in the Oceans 11, 12, 13 movies? I really enjoyed her in Oceans Twelve. Such a playful spirit in that one I thought.

Great hub! I am big Julia Roberts fan. I've seen many of these movies but not all. I think my favourite of these is "My Best Friend's Wedding." I loved the madcap antics and her slightly psycho behaviour! And "Sleeping With the Enemy." I had forgotten about that one but it's such a powerful film. Voted up, more and sharing!
Dianna Mendez on May 14, 2012:

@Jason Marovich: You are right! I have seen many movies with similar stories, but the way Julia Roberts played the role of the abused wife escaping her husband was very convincing.
@jainismus: Thanks for the appreciation and share.
@Ruchira: I will be happy too if she sees this Hub. I absolutely love to watch her expressions.
@billybuc: Notting Hill is an all time favorite of mine too. Regarding Celebrity Clients, it's pure luck because they came to me after seeing some of the scoops/interviews taken by me. I do have plenty of contacts/friends in the industry but have not tried to get work from there. In fact I have declined work because I did not want to be part of the industry.
Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on April 26, 2012:
Notting Hill is not only my favorite Julia movie but also one of my all-time favorites. The cast of character was classic! Great tribute....sometime you'll have to tell me how you got celebrities as clients.

Well written and interesting Hub, thank you for sharing it. Voted up and re-shared.
Jason F Marovich from Detroit on April 26, 2012:
I picked Sleeping with the Enemy. When that movie came out, there were still many women all over the world suffering in silence as their husband's abused them. Though, of course, spousal abuse is still an issue, Julia Roberts's role in that movie, and how she convincingly played a scared, but brave and determined woman, showed the world's women that someone had noticed this problem and was going to work to expose it further.
Anamika S Jain (author) from Mumbai - Maharashtra, India on April 26, 2012:
@lord de cross: I did like Julia in Sleeping with the Enemy. But as far as the story concerned, I have seen too many pictures with similar stories that I do not find anything unique about it. Thanks for the appreciation Lord.
@emilybee: Thanks for the comment. I have not seen Mirror Mirror. I have seen most of her movies.
@rahul0324: Nice to know that you love Julia Roberts too in Pretty Woman. I have lost count on how many times I have watched it.

Great movies from Julia. I was wonderign whatever happened to her brother Eric... but your review is excellent, and a good guide to look for some DVD's about her. Seems that Rchard Gere has been next to her in a Couple of blockbusters. My favorite is 'sleeping with the enemy.' She really delivers on this story. Thanks for taking your time is writing it Anamika!
