Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one the most powerful actresses in Bollywood. She stepped into the acting career after winning the Miss World pageant in 1994. Aishwarya made her acting debut opposite the South Indian Superstar Mohanlal in Mani Ratnam'sTamil film 'Iruvar' which was based on two of the prominent Tamilnadu politicians' personal lives in the year 1997. Aishwarya played dual characters in this movie which won several awards. She made her Bollywood entry in the same year in the film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya opposite Bobby Deol, which was a box-office disaster. Her next Tamil film ‘Jeans’ opposite actor Prashanth was a commercial success and was later dubbed into Hindi. She appeared in several Hindi and regional films after that out of which Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Taal, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Mohabbatein, Devdas, Raincoat, Dhoom 2, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar and Guzaarish are some of her best performances till date. She has acted in over 40 films and won several Awards for her performance in Movies including the Padma Shri by the Government of India. She is also the first Indian actress to have her own statue at London's Madame Tussauds museum.
Aishwarya Rai was born on 1st November 1973 in Mangalore, Karnataka. Her Parents are Krishnaraj Rai and Vrinda Rai. She also has a Brother Aditya Rai. Aishwarya dated Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi before getting married to Abhishek Bachchan on 20 April 2007. The couple who is often referred to as a super couple in the Indian media has a daughter (Aaradhya Bachchan aka Beti B).

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan
In Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Aishwarya Rai played the role Nandini, the daughter of a music teacher (played by Vikram Gokhale) who falls in love with her father’s student Sameer Rafilini (played by Salman Khan). Nandinii’s father opposes the relationship and gets her married to Vanraj (played by Ajay Devgan) who had fallen in love with Nandini during her cousin's wedding.When Vanraj realizes that his wife is in love with another man, he decides to unite her with her lover and they start searching for Sameer. Nandini meets Sameer only to leave him for Vanraj.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was a huge Box office success. This film earned Aishwarya Rai several awards for her performance in the film including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and the Star Screen Award for Best Actress for the year 2000.
Taal opposite Akshay Khanna and Anil Kapoor
In Taal, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Mansi, daughter of singer Tarababu (played by Alok Nath). She falls in love with a UK based Guy named Manav Mehta while he is on a sight-seeing road trip of India. Manav’s wealthy father Jagmohan Mehta (played by Amrish Puri) disapproves of Mansi. When Tarababu and Mansi reaches Manav’s house in Mumbai, they receive a hostile treatment from Jagmohan's sister-in-law, brother and the employees of the household. Tarababu is also insulted by Jagmohan which results in Tara Babu's slapping him across the face. Manav also misunderstands the situation and shouts at Tarababu. Mansi cut all ties with Manav and leaves Manav’s house deeply hurt. Mansi decides to move ahead in life and is helped by Vikrant Kapoor (played by Anil Kapoor) who is a successful music producer and director. Mansi becomes famous as a dancer. When Manav finds the truth, he apologizes to Mansi but she rejects him. Mansi agrees to marry Vikrant. On the day of the wedding, Manav and Mansi unite with the blessings of both their fathers and Vikrant.
Taal produced and Directed by Subhash Ghai was a moderate success at the box office.
Devdas opposite Shahrukh Khan
In Devdas, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Paro aka Parvati Chakraborty who falls in love with her childhood sweetheart Devdas Mukherjee (played by Shahrukh Khan). She marries Thakur Bhuvan Chaudhry (played by Vijayendra Ghatge), a forty-year-old widowed aristocrat with three grown children after she and her mother Sumitra (played by Kirron Kher) are insulted by Devdas’s mother Kaushalya (played by Smita Jaykar) in public. Devdas was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Bharat Shah.
Devdas was a Box office success and won several awards. It was Madhuri Dixit’s last movie prior to her marriage. Aishwarya Rai received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in the movie. She along with Shahrukh Khan also bagged the Star Screen Award Jodi No 1.
Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai opposite Anil Kapoor
In Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Preeti Virat who is raped by Bhavani Choudhry’s (Mukesh Rishi) Brother Babloo (Puru Raajkumar) for testifying against Bhavani Choudhry and his men. Preeti is disowned by her family but finds shelter with Avinash (Anil Kapoor) with whom she falls in love. Preeti rejects Avinash’s proposal as she considers herself unworthy of him.However, love wins at the end and the couple unites.
Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai was directed by Satish Kaushik and produced by Surinder Kapoor. The film was a moderate success at the box office and Aishwarya was nominated for the Star Screen and Filmfare Best Actress Awards for her performance in the movie. Sonali Bendre who played the role of Avinash's childhood friend won the Star Screen Award for the Best Supporting Actress for this film.
Dhoom 2 opposite Hrithik Roshan
Dhoom 2 is an action film in which Aishwarya Rai plays the role of a petty thief Sunehri on a mission by Assistant Commissioner Jai Dixit (played by Abhishek Bachchan) to trap the master thief Mr A (played by Hrithik Roshan). As instructed Suneri forms an alliance with A and ends up falling in love with him. Fast Bikes and Aishwarya- Hrithik kissing scene were some of the highlights of the movie. Dhoom 2 also has Uday Chopra, Bipasha Basu (double role) and Rimi Sen.
Dhoom 2 was directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by Adithya Chopra. It was a Blockbuster and won several awards. Aishwarya Rai won the Stardust Award for Star of the Year – Female and MTV India Most Stylish Actor – Female: Aishwarya Rai. She also bagged the MTV India Most Stylish Couple Award along with her costar Hrithik Roshan.
Mohabbatein opposite Shahrukh Khan
In Mohabbatein, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Narayan Shankar’s (played by Amitab Bachchan) daughter Megha and love interest of Raj Aryan Malhotra (played by Shahrukh Khan). Megha commits suicide after her father expels Raj from the Gurukul because of loving her. The character of Megha appears throughout the movie through Raj’s imagination.
Mohabbatein was directed by Adithya Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra. This film was the first film where Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan acted together. This film also has Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergill, Jugal Hansraj, Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma, Preeti Jhangiani, Amrish Puri, Shefali Shah, Anupam Kher and Archana Puran Singh in important roles. This film was a superhit and Aishwarya was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.
Raincoat opposite Ajay Devgan
In Raincoat, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Neeru, who meets her lover Manu with whom she was engaged 6 years ago. This movie is an adaptation of the short story The Gift of the Magi (1906) by O Henry.
Raincoat was directed by Rituparno Ghosh and Produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. This movie was a moderate success at the Box office and won several awards. Raincoat won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and was nominated for the Crystal Globe for Best Feature Film at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Jodhaa Akbar opposite Hrithik Roshan
In Jodhaa Akbar, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Rajput Princess Jodhabai who is married to the Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great (played by Hrithik Roshan). Though married to a Muslim, Jodhaa refuses to give up her Hindu cultural values even after marriage. Even though theirs was a political marriage of convenience, Akbar finally succeeds in winning Jodhaa’s love.
Jodhaa Akbar was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and Produced by Ronnie Screwvala. This film was a blockbuster and won several awards including the Audience Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the São Paulo International Film Festival. Aishwarya Bachchan won the Screen Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film.
Guru opposite Abhishek Bachchan
In Guru, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Gurukant Desai’s (played by Abhishek Bachchan) wife Sujata. Guru tells the story of Gurukant Desai who dreams of making it big some day. It is based on the life story of Dhirubhai Ambani. This film also stars R Madhavan, Vidya Balan, Arya Babbar, Mithun Chakraborty, Rajendra Gupta and Sarita Joshi in pivotal roles.
Guru was directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Mani Ratnam and G Srinivasan. Guru was a blockbuster and has many super hit songs. Aishwarya Rai was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in the movie.
Guzaarish opposite Hrithik Roshan
In Guzaarish, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Sofia D'Souza, nurse of Radio Jockey Ethan Mascarenhas (played by Hrithik Roshan) who becomes paralyzed after an accident. She is in love with Ethan and tells him that she will help with his mercy-killing whatever the consequences be as Ethan means more to her. Realizing her love for him, Ethan proposes Sofia.
Guzaarish is Directed and Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Despite of the award winning performances of the lead actors, the movie was a flop at the box office. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan won the Stardust Best Actress Award and was nominated for the Star Screen Award Best Actor Female and Filmfare Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in the movie.

Didn't know Aishwarya was in Mohabbatein. That was a classic, that I saw in 2006 next to Shahrukh Khan. Her beauty is remarkable, and traditional values are shown in the movie. Thanks for this compilation! Great pics!
