Top 10 Action-Comedy Movies Like 'Kung Fu Hustle'

A young software engineer passionate about being a writer, sharing thoughts, and spreading knowledge.

Action and comedy, my favorite two genres. Action movies tend to give me optimism of going against all odds, one guy fighting against the entire crime world. While the comedy movies help you forget all stress, all tensions and make you laugh out loud.

And when you mix both these genres, it becomes a thrilling ride full of laughs and hilarious action. But making an action-comedy movie is no mean feat and only few have excelled at it. Kung Fu Hustle is one of those few and I bring you here a list of few more like it.

Kung Fu Hustle (2004)

The work of international superstar Stephen Chow, Kung Fu Hustle is a humorous, special-effects-filled, action-packed martial arts epic set in early '40s China.

Hot Fuzz (2007)

A satire on buddy cop movies, this is everything an action-comedy should be

Nicholas Angel is the finest cop London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force. He's so good, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, Angel's superiors send him to a place where his talents won't be quite so embarrassing - the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford. Once there, he is partnered with the well-meaning but overeager police officer Danny Butterman. The son of amiable Police Chief Frank Butterman, Danny is a huge action movie fan and believes his new big-city partner might just be a real-life "bad boy," and his chance to experience the life of gunfights and car chases he so longs for. Angel is quick to dismiss this as childish fantasy and Danny's puppy-like enthusiasm only adds to Angel's growing frustration. However, as a series of grisly accidents rocks the village, Angel is convinced that Sandford is not what it seems and as the intrigue deepens, Danny's dreams of explosive, high-octane, car-chasing, gunfighting, all-out action seem more and more like a reality. It's time for these small-town cops to break out some big-city justice.

Shaolin Soccer (2001)

One of the best goofy action comedy like Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer is one-of-a-kind martial arts movie

They form a team and soon enter a prestigious tournament with a one million dollar prize, eventually facing an unscrupulous rival coach and his drug-enhanced players.

The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008)

This martial-art western is awesome, stupid and brainless fun

A guksu western. Three Korean gunslingers are in Manchuria circa World War II: Do-wan, an upright bounty hunter, Chang-yi, a thin-skinned and ruthless killer, and Tae-goo, a train robber with nine lives. Tae-goo finds a map he's convinced leads to buried treasure; Chang-yi wants it as well for less clear reasons. Do-wan tracks the map knowing it will bring him to Chang-yi, Tae-goo, and reward money. Occupying Japanese forces and their Manchurian collaborators also want the map, as does the Ghost Market Gang who hangs out at a thieves' bazaar. These enemies cross paths frequently and dead bodies pile up. Will anyone find the map's destination and survive to tell the tale?

Black Dynamite was the one hero willing to fight The Man all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House..

Spy (2015)

Action-packed and hilarious at core, Spy is arguably the best work of Melissa McCarthy and as good a action comedy as Kung Fu Hustle

Susan Cooper is an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency's most dangerous missions. But when her partner falls off the grid and another top agent is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global crisis.

Come good movies here, well done. I am a big fan of Kung-Fu Hustle and was hoping to see a series of movies like it. Fingers crossed!

Sam Dreiberg (author) from India on September 17, 2017:

Yes Sean. Policy Story is one of my favourite movie series. Didn't like the first that much but the second is one of the best.

Sean Harrison from Moline, IL on August 24, 2017:

Have you ever seen the Police Story series with Jackie Chan)? The first two are especially good (with the second being so good that it wasn't ruined by a bad English dub).
