HELP CHILDREN LEARN TO LOVE DANCE & FUND-RAISE FOR YOUR TEAM
One of my favorite memories from being the Vice President of our High School Drill Team, was our "Future Lancelle Dance Clinics" for ages 3-14. This event was always so much fun. Dancers will invite their friends, family and neighbors, to come participate in a dance clinic for children. The kids learn fun dance routines from the Drill Team Dancers, and then they get to perform them at a halftime football game for their family.
The children always have such a blast dancing with the big-girls. If you are a Dance Studio Owner or a Drill Team Coach, hosting a Junior Dance Clinic is the perfect fundraiser to benefit young children and help earn some extra funds for your dancers.
If you have never hosted a clinic before, here are some tips to help you run a successful mini dancer clinic.
1. Set a schedule for the dancers clinic.
This is the first step to help you become organized and run a dance clinic. Most of the time this includes at least 3 days for practicing, before the performance.
For example, let's say the performance in a Friday Evening, you can practice 1-2 hours Monday, Wednesday and Friday (before the performance).
Once you have your dates set, it is time to start advertising. Use Flyers and word of mouth to help get dancers to register. I would advise to set the registration date 30 minutes before you are wanting your first practice to start.
Also, to help encourage a full clinic, set a minimum of "minis" or "juniors" that your dancers have to get to sign up with them. Offer rewards of candy bars or a free dance item for the people who meet their goals with sign-ups and reward the person with the most as well. This will help your dancers want to get more children to sign-up and will motivate them to advertise for the clinic.
On these flyers here are a few keys to remember to include for best advertising:
- Attention grabbing photo
- Team or Studio Name
- Contact name, phone number, or email for questions.
- Registration Date and Location
- Registration Fee (Usually something $10.00 - $30.00, because this will be whatever profit you make from hosting the clinic.)
- You can also promote a discount for registering early.
- Clinic Practice Dates and Location
- Final Performance Date and approximate Time. (For example: if your performance is for a halftime show at a football game, we suggest having your dancers there by the time the game starts. This will give you plenty of time to have the girls and dancers stretch and practice a little before they perform.
3. Hire A Choreographer.
Now that things are falling into place, it is time to arrange for a choreographer to create and teach dance routines for the mini dancer to your dancers.
Since this is a fundraiser, you will want to find a choreographer that will work for lower costs, or may just be willing to take a small % of your profits from the clinic as well. Once you hire a choreographer to create these fun dance routines, your dancers will then teach these dance routines to the "minis" at the clinics.
- For the Clinic Dance Routines, you will want to split the dancers up by "Minis" (Ages 3 - 6), "Juniors" (Ages 6 - 9), "Elites" (Ages 10 and up.) Breaking your little future dance girls into age appropriate groups will be better for the performance.
- At the half-time performance, you can then have the girls perform in their age groups, one at a time, and then end with a Finale routine all together. If you only have 3 practices before performance, we suggest keeping each routine below a minute in length.

4. Registration Time.
Be sure to create a way for clients to either register online or in person for your clinic. With this you will need a registration form that asks and includes:
- Parent and Dancer - Full Names and (nick name)
- Dancer's Age and Ability or previous dance experience.
- Dancer's shirt or costume size
- Emergency Contact Information
- Injury Waiver
- Dancer Referral section to help you find more dancers.
- Signature of parents.
5. Get sponsors.
Now that you have the details sorted out for your dance clinic, it is time to get some help with costumes or shirt pricing for mini dancers.
The best way to do this is by finding sponsors.
Tons of businesses are willing to purchase shirts for non-profit organizations, in return for simple marketing, like having their logo or name on the back of the shirts. The bigger donations you receive, the less sponsors you need.
You will have the girls' names and shirt size so your can now order shirts or costumes for your future dancers and the dancers teaching. The money from sponsors should fully cover these costs, to ensure you will be making a profit from the registration fees for your dance studio or team.
Hosting a mini dance clinic
Hosting a mini dance clinic is one of the most fun fundraising events you can do. Also, since your only costs are for a choreographer and shirts or costumes, these fees can all be covered through sponsors. Sponsors are excited to donate to non-profit organizations, because it is a positive donation that includes subtle marketing as well.
If you are willing to ask sponsors to cover these costs for your clinic, in return for their logo or name being printed on the shirts they sponsor, then you will be able to bring in pure profit from the registration fees for hosting these clinics.
Most Clinics are able to bring in a minimum of 50 future dancers. IF you charge just $10 for your registration that is a $500 fundraising profit for your Dance Studio or Team!
