Tim McGraw & Faith Hill Barbie Dolls by Mattel

Dear Mattel:

As a longtime fan of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill I feel the need to vent my disappointment regarding the new barbie dolls created for them. They were designed in honor of Tim and Faith's 15th wedding anniversary.

Mattel, I demand a redo! And then another redo! The concept was a good one but the finished product was not. It seems like it was rushed or possibly since this is country music, the creator thought the fans would be too drunk to notice the major design flaws.

Well...I beg to differ. Heck, even the Spice Girl dolls from back in the 90's looked more realistic!

These dolls that are going to retail for $69.99 have ZERO resemblence to Faith or Tim. According to various websites Tim and Faith supplied the details for the clothing. Did they by any chance supply you with a photo of their likeness? Has the designer of the dolls ever seen a photo of The McGraw's? I'm thinking that answer might be a NO. I find it hard to believe that the prototype took two months to complete. Very hard to believe.

Faith's barbie is just a barbie. You can't take a doll that retails for $4.99 slap a gown on it that Faith designed and name it Faith Hill! That's just unacceptable! Faith isn't skinny as a stick! The only time Faith had chipmunk cheeks is when she was she pregnant now? I don't think so. Even Madame Tussauds could have created more life-like wax figures of these two beautiful people. I could have created more real looking dolls without a photo just from memory!

Tim's doll?!?! Oh my. When did Tim get reddish hair? You CAN NOT slap a cowboy hat on a doll and call him Tim McGraw! No! No! No! Oh my. Even the Ken doll is more buff then the Tim barbie. What about the sunglowed tan that Tim frequently sports? This doll looks like it's never even heard of sunning or a tanning bed. Heads up for you....Tim is 44 years old NOT a youngen like the hideous doll. I ask you again, did the creator have a photo to work from? I didn't think so!

As a fan I truly hope that Tim and Faith reconsider placing these dolls on the market. I think of their three little girls Gracie, Maggie and Audrey playing with these dolls. Showing them off to their friends saying, "Look at my mommy and daddy" and their friends saying "That's not your mommy and daddy!" Can you imagine the awkwardness and weird glances these children will have to deal with...why is that? Because these dolls LOOK NOTHING like their MOMMY AND DADDY! Those children could be scarred for life!

Mattel I will give you a C+ for effort but your final grade is an F for FAIL because this is one McGraw/Hill fan who will not be purchasing these dolls unless they are completely revamped and started from scratch. The clothes are acceptable due to the special occasion even though I prefer them in jeans. This gorgeous couple deserves much better then just throwing a dress and cowboy hat on some random barbie dolls. I suggest that Tim and Faith demand a REDO!

On a lighter note I'm thrilled for Tim and Faith and their upcoming wedding anniversary! I wish them many more years of wedded bliss. Cheers to the McGraws! Boooo to Mattel!

P.S. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood poking fun at the dolls at the CMA's on 11/9/11 was a smash hit! Don't say I didn't warn you Mattel about the freakishly looking dolls you created. How's that prototype going? :)

Your opinion counts!

This is the REAL DEAL ... Got it now Mattel?

Barbie Dolls are not hated in China but just not as popular as Mattel had hoped for.I think its all about curltue and competitions in toy market in China. In fact, Barbie Doll is popular mostly only in the USA, so they should not expect everyone in the world loves Barbie Dolls the way as Americans do.I briefly look at the Chinese type Barbie Dolls, it seems that they deliberately made her look a bit Oriental look with the lips a bit thicker than the American Barbie Dolls. It is their mistakes. Rarity makes popularity. They should keep a caucasian look instead of oriental look. When I was a kid, I had caucasian dolls, including Barbie Dolls, but not oriental dolls at all. *References : Dog Lover

I'm smiling RC :)

Rich from Kentucky on September 21, 2012:

Faith's doll looks like the Martian in an old movie called "Mars Attacks." Tim's just looks like Ken's with stubble. Btw, the video was blocked from playing. Probably Mattel trying to turn people away from your comments! : ) Remember, don't sweat the small stuff! Keep smiling!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on September 21, 2012:

My thoughts exactly Jennifer. I have no idea what Mattel was thinking when they designed these Tim McGraw and Faith Hill barbie dolls. I continue to shake my head in disbelief.

jenbeach21 from Orlando, FL on September 21, 2012:

I love Tim McGraw and Faith Hill but those dolls look nothing like them. Great hub!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on July 24, 2012:

Hi Dianna, I couldn't agree with you more! It didn't take long for these dolls to make it to the clearance shelf. Mattel should have taken my advice. Thanks for your comment.

Dianna Mendez on June 07, 2012:

Their real pictures are great! Too bad the dolls don't exactly look like them. I agree the jeans look is a better sell and realistic image.

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on March 21, 2012:

FYI: Mattel. On March 21, 2012 these dolls were found in the Walmart Clearance section by my good friend Bruce. I rest my case.

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on November 10, 2011:

I agree ge the show was a smashing success! Brad and Carrie are just too cute together!! Hey maybe these dolls are really supposed to be Brad and Carrie!! Nah, even Brad is cuter then that hick doll! :))

geegee77 from The Lone Star State!! on November 10, 2011:

First of all I gotta say I love the pic with Tim & Faith by the jeep sexy!!! Anyway I thought the awards show was hilarious last night and they really do need to make those dolls over to look more like them especially for that much money. Great hub sunshine:) ge

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on November 07, 2011:

Hi Real! These are the real dolls. Yuck! Faith Hill said she doesn't even care for them.

I haven't seen the Bieber doll yet :)

Kelly Umphenour from St. Louis, MO on November 07, 2011:

Sunshine - I haven't seen the REAL dolls but the pictures do NOT look a think like them. You're so funny! You can't just put a hat on him and call him Tim McGraw!

The Justin doll doesn't look exceptional either - but the darn thing sings! Lol

Reynold Jay from Saginaw, Michigan on September 19, 2011:

The dolls work for me. Heck--they gotta keep the price down. They don't want to end up like the American girl where you gotta be a millionare to collect this stuff. I love Faith and Mc Graw and made a ton of money over the years playing their songs at weedings in my DJ act. You will enjoy a HUB on "Paint me a promise and a hundred bucks" that will touch your heart. It tells about one of my DJ jobs... and it is short!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on September 16, 2011:

Good point coolbreez, feel free to share that with Mattel!

Ha Ha Sunshine,

You are such a great letter writer! :) They really need to be placed in the U.S. mail! YOU have SO much to say that needs to be heard . . .

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 29, 2011:

Hi Victoria...The Tim doll is far worse then the Faith doll. I've been a fan of Tim's for over 15 years and he never looked even close to that. I'm a Barbie fan also...I have tons of Barbies but I won't have this one even if Mattel offers it for free. They aren't for sale yet not until Sept. but according to comments and posts from the fans they won't be buying them because they are just as disappointed. Thank you for your comment :))

Victoria Lynn from Arkansas, USA on August 29, 2011:

Sunshine, this is great! the Tim McGraw is better than the Faith Hill, but that's not saying much. Faith looks exactly like Barbie just with bigger eyes! Are they actually selling very well? Love your hub! Hope it reaches the right person. I'm a Barbie fan, and this couple definitely doesn't do the Barbie line justice. Voted up and awesome!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 28, 2011:

The dolls are cute as Reeses and Ryan as fpherj pointed at. Nothing like Tim or Faith. You are right Tims hair is black and this doll looks reddish brown to me. Fail for Mattel. Thank you for stopping by :)

myrasue on August 28, 2011:

I think the dolls are cute, but they should redo them, they could look a lot better.I don't see any red hair on him, though.the hair is black. Tim and Faith think they look good. is something wrong with their eyesight? they don't look like they do this year, and they should

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 28, 2011:

Hi Arlene! I've seen the Harley Barbies....they were COOL looking dolls not at all like these. These dolls are a slap in the face to the McGraws. I'm glad you agree...MAYBE MATTEL will listen to your voice :)

Arlene V. Poma on August 28, 2011:

Oh, Sunshine, where's your sense of the Great American Tacky? Those dolls do look awful, but yours is the first to include a (ewwwww) photograph of them thar dolls. Remix! Remix! But when I first retired, I wheeled and dealed Harley Barbies and their matching motorcycles on eBay. Can't complain about the $$$ I made. Great Hub with that delicious sense of humor of yours. Smilin' at us and stickin' it to us at the same time. Voted up and whatever I can hit with my key fingers!!!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 25, 2011:

Wow Will & Jada...I heard Jada might be messing around with Marc Anthony?! Marc vs Will WTF is she thinking!!?!? I hope this is false info...they are an adorable couple as is Tim and Faith BUT these dolls are still hideous compared to the McGraws!!!

Thank you Prasetio and Cogerson for stopping by! :)

UltimateMovieRankings from Virginia on August 25, 2011:

Well I thought I had a great gift for you for Christmas, I will make an effort to cancel my order. I think you might be somewhat picky....there really is not much difference between red hair and black how often does Barbie get a chance to wear a Faith Hill dress....I certainly hope the Will Smith and Jada Pinkett dolls I got for you get here before they break up. are 100% correct these dolls are a joke...Mattel should ashamed of themselves for producing such a weak product.

As for your hub....your passion for your subjects always comes through the lines...which makes your hubs so enjoyable to read.

prasetio30 from malang-indonesia on August 24, 2011:

This was so beautiful dolls (pretty and handsome as well). I'll show this to my niece. I believe she'll love this. Thank you very much for share with us. Well done, my friend. Vote up and useful!

Sunshine, PLEASE tell me that you mailed that letter! LOL

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 24, 2011:

I'm glad others think the same if only Mattel could think like us smart folks :)

Mentalist acer from A Voice in your Mind! on August 24, 2011:

You're right Linda, these dolls are of poor quality and presume their sales will be poor also.;)

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 24, 2011:

Thank you knev! The images could be a lot better if they were the correct images of Tim and Faith :)

knev1510rose from Mckenzie on August 24, 2011:

cute post, liked the animated images

fpherj48 on August 23, 2011:

By JOBE....I think you've got something there!! That is highly possible. The second I looked at these dolls, I saw Reese & Ryan....I doubt Mattel would ADMIT it. The people who should call them on this are Tim & Faith....and Reese and Ryan!!! Hey, Mattel, what gives, here?

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 23, 2011:

OMG fpherj! That's exactly WHO THESE dolls look like!!! Ryan and Reese!!!! I betchya they made these for them but they divorced so Mattel saved them for another couple who MIGHT fall for the con if NOT for fans like me who FIGHT for the cause!!

fpherj48 on August 23, 2011:

OK,Mattel....Here's what you do: Save the outfits for the NEW Faith & Tim dolls which you must Re-do. (This time, they need to LOOK LIKE the Mcgraws.) Dress the first batch of dolls in some casual preppy outfits and market them as "Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Phillipe." (you can add a miniature copy of their divorce papers in the box.) THAT'S who these dolls look like. Snap out of it, Mattel. Sunshine..Good girl! You fight for the cause!! up& awesome

Mich S on August 23, 2011:

That's fun that they are getting dolls! But that does not look ANYTHING like Tim!! lol

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 23, 2011:

Hi Flora! I wouldn't even pay $5.00 because these dolls do not do justice to the McGraws and I take it personal. Thank you for your opinion :)

Hi Nebraska....You tell 'em!!!

Hi Marellen....I originally had a D+ but I changed it to a C+ because the creator did at least try and got the clothing correct. They are up for sale at the collectors site in Sept. and then at the Dollar Store by November. Such a shame. More effort should have been made.

marellen on August 23, 2011:

Boy, you were nice giving them a C+. Those dolls look awful. They should scratch the whole idea...

Nebraska on August 23, 2011:

I am not a country music fan, but even I know that this doesn't resemble Tim & Faith! Nice try Mattel!!

FloraBreenRobison on August 23, 2011:

I am not a country music fan and I don't see the resemblence either. I agree that you are supposed to get what you pay for. i.e. if these were only $5.00 each, I don't think you would mind the non-resemblence so much.
