Season 29 of Dancing with the Stars premieres on Monday, September 14, 2020 at 8 p.m. Fans who have been watched the popular dance competition show on ABC over the last 15 years will see many new and different things that they have never seen before. Some of those things have been revealed before the show airs, but many things will not be revealed until the season starts.
The show will go on in the midst of a global pandemic with only one host. There will be three married couples as professional dancers and the first Black female pro.
Longtime viewers can't wait to see what Season 29 will be like.
One Host Instead of Two
Tom Bergeron has been a fixture on Dancing with the Stars since the very beginning. He hosted the show for 28 seasons over 15 years. There were four female co-hosts during that time. Erin Andrews was the last female to co-host with him. She stood proudly by Tom's side for 10 seasons over six years.
Bergeron and Erin were not invited back to host the show. Instead, supermodel and businesswoman Tyra Banks will be the only host in addition to being the executive producer. She has already promised viewers that things will not be the same as they have been accustomed to seeing.
Banks is a professional host because she has had many hosting gigs, including her short-lived hosting assignment from 2017 to 2018 on America's Got Talent. She has been the only female host of the reality show.
Three Married Couples Must Live Separately
Three married professional dancers will not be allowed to live together during the season because of COVID-19. The ruling is to protect their dance partners in case one of the pros become infected. Their photos are at the top of this article.
Sasha Farber and Emma Slater
Sasha proposed to Emma on the reality show on October 4, 2016. They got married on March 25, 2018. This will be Emma's twelfth season. She won Season 24 with Rashad Jennings. This will be Sasha's eighth season, but he hasn't won a championship yet.
Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson
Val and Jenna became engaged on June 15, 2018. They were married on April 13, 2019. This will be Val's sixteenth season on the dance competition show. He won the Mirror Ball Trophy twice; once with Rumer Willis in Season 20 and with Laurie Hernandez in Season 23. This will be Jenna's fifth season as a pro. She won her second season on the show with Adam Rippon in Season 26. She was a member of the troupe for five seasons before becoming a regular pro in Season 23.
Pasha Pashkov and Daniella Karagach
Pasha and Daniella were members of the troupe. Pasha was a pro dancer for the first time in Season 28. This will be his wife's first season. The couple got married on July 18, 2014 after dating for four years and dancing together much longer than that.
Viewers will find out who will be partnered with the married professionals on Good Morning America on September 2. In fact, all the celebrity stars will be announced along with their partners.
First Black Female Professional Dancer
Britt Stewart is a new pro and the show's first Black female pro. She was a member of the troupe. She is honored and excited to be on the ballroom floor with her partner that she will coach throughout the season.
Stewart told Ginger Zee on Good Morning America that she hopes her front-and-center role will give young Black girls who "feel like they don't have that representation something to look at and something to reach for."
Britt posted on her Instagram page, "I am over the moon to be a first time PRO on Season 29 of @dancingabc. My heart is filled with gratitude to have been given this opportunity. I can hardly contain my excitement to step into this new position."
Reactions From Fans
Fans are excited about the upcoming new season of Dancing with the Stars. They said they will certainly miss Tom Bergeron and Eric Andrews, but they are willing to give Tyra Banks a chance by seeing what she will bring to the ballroom. The viewers are also looking forward to seeing the two new pros.
They will also miss Lindsay Arnold and Witney Carson. Both women have won the Mirror Ball Trophy, but they are pregnant and will not be on Season 29. Lindsay is expecting a baby girl in November 2020. Witney is expecting a baby boy in January 2021.
The two women have more in common than their pregnancies. They are both 26 years old, and they were maids of honor in each other's weddings. Lindsay was a pro for nine seasons and won the Mirror Ball Trophy in Season 25 with Jordan Fisher. Witney was a pro on the show for 11 seasons and won in Season 19 with Alfonso Ribeiro.
