.....me that the band I am going to tell you about, should be ranked along the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith as a great party band.
Igor & The Red Elvises
Igor & the Red Elvises
Billed as Siberian surf rock, Igor & the Red Elvises is, in my opinion, the world's greatest under rated party band. To maintain control of their own music and music distribution, they turned down a record deal and decided to do their own CD and video production. Igor Yuzov and Oleg Bernov started out as street performers in Santa Monica California, when they were starting out in America, but the crowds they were attracting quickly outgrew the tolerance of Santa Monica officials, and their street performance days had to come to an end.
The Red Elvises have been touring the world since 1995, and Igor and his band of merry musicians are continually evolving. Every performance is usually a mix of musicians that are different from the previous performance. Some of these guys and gals have their own bands in which they are permanent fixtures, and they tour with the Red Elvises when their main band is on a break. These musicians are always well seasoned, excellent musicians, and work well with Igor's off-beat sense of humor which is very obvious from the lyrics that go along with these great party songs.
The Red Elvises have also provided the music for several movies and TV shows, including “Six String Samurai”, “Mail Order Bride”, “Armageddon”, “Skippy”, “Melrose Place”, “Fastlane", “Penn and Teller's Sin City Extravaganza”, “VH-1 Behind the Music”, and “MTV”. Some of the Red Elvises most popular songs include "I Wanna See You Belly Dance," "Strip Joint is Closed," "Rocketman," "Telephone Call from Istanbul," and many many others.
If you've never seen the Red Elvises live, you owe it to yourself to make it to one of their shows. For dates and times of upcoming shows click HERE.

Most Great Party Bands Had a Predecessor-Meet "Limpopo" the Band Before the Red Elvises
Igor Yusov's first band was called Limpopo. Their genre was more Russian Folk Songs and Russian Folk Rock. Igor says that Elvis Presley came to him in a dream and told him to start playing rock and roll, and hence the Red Elvises were born. But, the video below will give you some clue as to how different Limpopo's music was from today's Red Elvises. Certainly, I could not classify Limpopo as a great party band, although the music is interesting to hear.
The song "Katyusha" is a popular Russian folk song that has been performed by nearly every popular Russian musician from classical singer, Dimitri Hvorostovsky to modern singer Nicolai Boscov. Of course, Limpopo covered this popular Russian folk song, as did many other singers.
Limpopo got their first national exposure on Star Search with Ed McMahon in 1993. You can watch their debut TV performance here. Take note of the very atypical costumes, but even so, Limpopo won first place on Star Search and the rest is history.
And Before the Red Elvises There Was "Limpopo"
The Great Advantage of a Bi-Lingual Party Band
The great advantage that the Red Elvises have over other party bands is that they speak both Russian and English, and their songs, for the most part are recorded in both languages. When it comes to live performances, they are understood in the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, and these 15 former Soviet Union countries listed below.
