The Suicide Squad
Brutal. Messy. Rude. Crude. These are all words that can describe The Suicide Squad, a sequel to Suicide Squad from 2016. I had seen the original Suicide Squad in the theater with my former girlfriend. I had enjoyed the first movie, but had found it lacking. The acting didn't seem to be all there, the special effects could have been improved, and I tried to like the new manifestation of the Joker, but found that tough to do. The Suicide Squad, on the other hand, makes up for any lack that the first film had. The acting is incredible, the special effects are done expertly, and the storyline and writing are both excellently executed. Still, it's not a movie for children. There are brutally gory scenes, messy explosions of violence, rude behaviors from the characters, and the atmosphere of the movie is rather crude. And, the Joker is absent from this film. I loved this film!
Margot Elise Robbie
Margot Robbie has returned to again play her role as the character Harley Quinn, who she has previously played in the first Suicide Squad film, as well as in the movie Birds of Prey in 2020. She once more brings an air of comedy and interest to the film. In my opinion, her role in the first film was one of the best parts of that movie. This time, she still adds her charm, but this movie is much stronger than its predecessor. For this reason, although she does a fantastic job, she is not holding the movie together as much this time around. Her role is still a vital portion of The Suicide Squad, and she does do a lot for the film.
Idrissa Akuna Elba
Idrissa Elba plays Bloodsport in this new film. You may remember the actor from the 2017 film The Dark Tower. His character is convincing in the movie, and his stern expressions sell his personality in the film well. He, like Margot, adds a sense of charm to the movie. The man is an amazing actor.
John Felix Anthony Cena
John Cena's character Peacemaker is a wonderful addition to the story. John Cena does a surprisingly good job at acting his part, which he later returns to in his show Peacemaker. Peacemaker is a person who is difficult to define. Is he a hero? A villain? Peacemaker gives to the brutality of the film, without doubt.
Charles Joel Nordström Kinnaman
Rick Flag returns once more, played again by Joel Kinnaman. He has acted in a large number of other films. The actor has previously played in the 2014 movie RoboCop. The viewer grows to love his character in the film, and his acting is done very well in the production.
"The Suicide Squad"
Sylvester Enzio Stallone
Yes, Sylvester Stallone is in this movie. It's no lie. In The Suicide Squad you may miss him, at first. He voices King Shark in the film. Sylvester Stallone is one of the most well-known and iconic actors of our time, and it was exciting to hear his voice acting in this movie.
"The Suicide Squad" Official Trailer
I believe that the special effects were done very well. I think there was room to be improved upon in some of the computer animation, such as seen in King Shark. But, there was clearly enough use of practical effects to give the observer a sense of realism in the movie experience.
Reception Of "The Suicide Squad"
The movie has had a relatively good reception. As of the composing of this article, RottenTomatoes holds a verified audience score of 82%, as well as a critic score of 90%. The top critics score is in between these two, at 87%. IMDb rates the film at 7.2/10. Compare this to the 5.9/10 rating that the first Suicide Squad received from IMDb. The metacritic scores include a 72 critic score, as well as a 7.2 user score. Compare those scores to the first film, which got a critic score of merely 40, and a user score of only 5.9. All in all, these score suggest that The Suicide Squad is graded somewhere between a B and a C. That's not bad, considering people can be very harsh when criticizing a film. The movie, in my opinion, has exceeded expectations.
The Suicide Squad is not the type of film you should watch with your kids, but you will likely love it if you're a comic book fan who enjoys movies aimed at adult audiences. I had fun seeing this film. My family (no children) enjoyed the production with me. If you can handle the gore and blood, you may have a new favorite flick!
