Dwayne Carter was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was raised in a rough neighborhood by his stepfather and his mother. His father left the nest when he was just two years old. While growing up, he developed a passion for entertainment. He enrolled in a drama club at his elementary school. During that same time, he was writing raps and rapping. In the summer of 1991, he met the owner of Cash money records. He grew impressed by the young carters’ skills but saw he needed guidance. He started to mentor the young carter. After some time, he included him the label’s distribution songs. He recorded the first ever collaboration album entitled TRUE STORY. Carter was only 11 years old and was on his way to becoming one of the greats. By Carter’s teen-aged years, he was a sensation, but he suffered a mild setback because of himself. He shot himself with a handgun at the age of 12. After healing up, he became an honor student in high school. Despite doing great in school, he desired a career in entertainment at 14, he dropped out to pursue it. Dewayne Carter was named after his father, but his father was never in his life. In response, he took off the D and became LIL WAYNE.

Daddy Wasn't there

Perhaps, if his father was in his life he would not have dropped out of school. He may have waited to go after it. Lil Wayne saw an opportunity he could not refuse. In 1996, he joined the group hot boys. Being only 15, he was the youngest in the group. His rap skills were highly noticed but the fact that the group was full of troubled and talented teens was as well. Teens that used their rap skills to the top. Teens that were not focused on education. They had hits but in them they would degrade young black women. They displayed the wrong lifestyles to young men listening to their music. The young men and women thought they were right, and the young little Wayne was in the middle of it all. He was living the life he never seen growing up, but he was also causing himself more pain he will have to pay for the future. His mind was not wasted but his young life was headed in the wrong direction. Sadly, he had no clue. He was doing what he knew how to do. A good father in his life may have made things a lot better for him. One in the household is even better. Despite his biological father not being there, the rapper credits someone his mother, step father and an off duty officer for staying.

Cash Money Records required a lot of him and the rapper loved it. He did not care for the stress he was putting himself under. He did not care for what it what it was going to cause either. He was a hit before he was 20 years old. At 17, he went solo. His career as a solo artist had it’s ups and downs. Due to the downs, he realized to make a change. In 2004, he did. He advanced his rapping style, but his image did not change. He had dreads by then. He began doing features as well and having features on his music. By 2006, he collaborated with who helped him start his career for the Album LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON. In that same year, he was making mixtapes and doing collaborations. Despite his success as a rapper, it took a toll on his health. In October 2012 he was on a private Jet that made an emergency landing in Texas. Later it was confirmed that the emergency landing was because the rapper had a seizure that was denied. The next day the same thing happened. The rapper decided to rest. Once he resurfaced, those same conditions he suffered in those days continued the set of a music video in 2013. His condition worsened and almost took his life. The conditions seemed to be exaggerated but the fact that the rapper was not seen as much as he used to be confirmed Lil Wayne was stressed out.

Along with his health issues, he was also having legal troubles. In July of 2007 the rapper was arrested in New York City after performing for criminal possession of Marijuana and a weapon. After pleading guilty for that crime and doing little time, he was arrested in Idaho in October of that same year. He was arrested again in 2008 and in 2009. Along with those arrests, the lawsuits came. A lawsuit was filed by Abko Music against the rapper for copyright infringement on one the songs on his albums. Another lawsuit was filed against him by RMF productions for shows that he cancelled. He was sued for copyright infringement again for using THOMAS MARASCIULLO’s voice on numerous songs on his album LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON. He was sued in 2011 for unpaid royalties to a DJ that contributed to his album THE CARTER lll. That same year he got a lawsuit for the same thing. During that year, the lawsuits kept coming toward him. He also started having feuds with label and industry mates. Overtime, they all were resolved. He was great at his profession, but it was very costly.

His success as an artist was great but all things must come to an end. The rapper just could not take the life anymore. He retired at 35 years old. He announced that he will in 2011. He was also in a dispute with record label Cash Money during the time. He wanted to spend more time with his four children. He did not want to miss out on the most vital things in their lives. His first child was born was to Antonia Carter. The two tied the not in 2004 but the marriage only lasted 2 years. He had his second to a radio broadcaster, his third to actress LAUREN LONDON and his forth to sing NIVEA. The young superstar rapper was everywhere. Sadly, he is not with the mothers of his children. He really was like his biological father. The young star wanted it to end. At 35 it all ended. He did not want to miss his children’s most vital moments like his father did him. His career may have been full of ups and downs, but Dewayne Michael Carter Jr. did not ignore when it was time to leave it. He was a victim of the industry but has broken free from it. Now, he lives a happier life.
