More plus size models featuring Lizzie Miller, Chloe Marshall, Crystal Renn, Christina Schmidt, Kate Dillon, Maggie Brown and Mia Amber Davis
This is my second beautiful women of plus size modeling article.
I didn't realize that plus size companies out there like Torrid Plus Size Clothing and IGIGI clothing were so popular, but I guess that's part of doing things like this...learning.
And speaking of learning, I also hope that you look at some of these beautiful women and realize what a lot of them have gone through in their lives to get to where they are now.
Remember readers, words can heal or kill, use them wisely.
And also remember that no matter what you look like, short, fat, tall, skinny, there is a place for you out there, you just have to find it like many of these women did.
Okay, now that I'm done being so serious, lets look at some more of the beautiful women of plus size modeling...
Crystal Renn was born on June 18th, 1986 in Miami, Florida.
She started modeling at the age of fourteen, but was told that she needed to lose almost a third of her total body weight.
This lead her to an unhealthy diet and exercise regime that put her health at risk.
(Okay, you know that I do a lot of fitness article. There are healthy and unhealthy ways to lose weight. If you want to lose weight, do some research and know the difference).
Crystal rethought her health habits, and came back after gaining seventy pounds as a plus size model.
That must have worked, because as of this entry, she is the only plus-size model to appear on a Harper's Bazaar cover.
She has also done modeling work for Torrid Plus Size Clothing, Lane Bryant and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
In 2007, Crystal appeared in ads for the Spanish retailer Mango that showed her alongside mainstream models with no indication of her larger size.
Mia Amber Davis
Plus size model and actress Mia Amber Davis has appeared in the films Road Trip (2000) and Holla If I Kill You (2003).
She has also appeared on The Tyra Banks Show, Rip The Runway and The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.
Mia passed away on May 10th, 2011. An autopsy determined the cause of death was from complications of a blood clot in her lungs.
Actress and plus size model Christina Schmidt (who I personally think is just drop dead gorgeous) was born on September 16th, 1987 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
After studying acting in Canada she got a role in a short film, Notes from Mother (2000) with Noah Giffin (The Zack Files).
Christina then appeared in the TV movie What Girls Learn in 2001 (with Elizabeth Perkins and Scott Bakula) and that led to her best known role as Terri MacGregor (from 2001 to 2004) in the Canadian television series, Degrassi: The Next Generation.
As a plus size model, Christina is represented by the Wilhelmina agency (ten20 division) in New York.
She has modeled for MXM and Torrid Plus Size Clothing.
Lizzie Miller (born October 22nd, 1994 in San Jose, California) is a plus size model that gained a lot of attention when she posed for Glamour magazine.
She signed with the Wilhelmina Models as a plus-size model at age 13, and has been told that at five foot eleven, 121 pounds, she's too big for even plus size modeling.
But that picture in Glamour, and the firestorm of controversy that followed may have proved the other modeling agencies wrong.
Lizzie wasn't air brushed or CGI enhanced, she was totally natural.
(So naturally I cant show you the whole picture, but Google her and you'll see it).
E-mails poured into Glamour praising them fro running the picture, with most writers calling her “the woman on p. 194″.
So now you know that “the woman on p. 194″ is Lizzie.
Kate Dillon is a real overcoming adversity story.
As a child she was mercilessly teased for being over weight, and because of that pressure, at the age of twelve, she developed anorexia.
She lived with that for five years until a photographer saw her, took some pictures and she wound up coming in third in Elite's Look of the Year contest.
Kate got a lot of modeling work after that of course, but her anorexia combined with her two packs of cigarettes a day habit was slowly killing her.
She finally decided enough was enough and went to a nutritionist and afterward added fifteen pounds.
Of course now she was too big to model.
Kate gained another fifteen pounds and went home to live with her parents.
Finally she moved to New York, and by chance took a friends advice to check out plus size modeling.
She met with the Wilhelmina agency, and in less than two weeks got a job modeling for Spiegel catalog.
Kate has gone on to work not only for Spiegel, but Liz Claiborne and Isabella Rossellini's Manifesto line among others.
British plus-size model Chloe Marshall was born on March 27th, 1991 in Cranleigh, Surrey, England.
Chloe rose to fame when she became the first plus size model to reach the finals in the Miss England beauty pageant.
She didn't win the pageant (she came in second) but soon afterward she was signed by the Models Plus agency.
You can find out more about this five foot, ten inch beauty at her website here:
Asian-American plus-size fashion model Maggie Brown was born on April 13th (????) in Montana, but she grew up in Kailua, Hawaii.
Maggie got her big break in 2006 when she appeared on The Tyra Banks Show, winning the "Tyra's Thick and Sexy Top Model Contest".
She is currently signed with Wilhelmina Models and Q6 Models and Artists Management in Portland, Oregon.
Maggie has done work for IGIGI clothing, Torrid Plus Size Clothing, Mervyn's and Walmart among others.
Natalie Laughlin has been nicknamed the "Cindy Crawford of plus sizes."
She was born in Trinidad and is of English and French ancestry.
Natalie started out with Ford's Models and has appeared in Glamour and Mode magazines.
She is also the only plus model to have five massive billboards in Times Square as Liz Claiborne's Elisabeth Girl.
You can check out her website here:
Robyn Lawley was born on June 13, 1989 in Girraween, New South Wales, Australia.
She is a plus size model that rose to fame for being on the covers of Australian Vogue, GQ Australia and Australia Cosmopolitan.
Robyn was the first plus sized model to ever do so.
She was also the second plus-size model to appear on the cover of Elle France.
But she made a huge splash here in the States when she became the first-ever plus size model to appear in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
Of course not everyone was happy about that.
Robyn Lawley herself doesn't like the idea that she is considered a plus-size model.
But she's a size 12, which is much larger than a size 0 to size 4 that you usually see on the runway or in SI.
And a lot of other people took to the social media sites to express their displeasure that Robyn is considered a "plus size model".
A lot of this has to do with Robyn being 160 pounds...but six feet two, which most people would consider proportionate.
Marquita Pring was born in Clinton, New York.
She is five foot eleven, 197 pounds and is 40-32-44.
Marquita has worked for Levi's, Lane Bryant, Italian Vogue and V Magazine among others.

great to see plus size models instead of skinny wafer thin in need of a meal desperados !
wsp2469 from Alta Loma, Ca on January 02, 2010:
No in the industry these are plus size models. Plus you have to remember they have professional makeup, hair and photog people. Mind you, having said all that I would def. agree with a previous poster in that I would not hesitate to (ahem) do some of 'em.
Please, let's be real, too. There is a difference between curvy and overweight, fat and obese. Let's not let any of the women out there delude themselves. there is plus-size in professional pics and then there is PLUS-PLUS size on the street in the real world.

Very nice hub and georgeous pictures. Like someone else on this forum said it is sad when these woman who have curves are considered to be plus size. Many years ago before the skinny trend came into play people like Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield were considered to be sexy as hell and they were not skinny women. The perfect size used to be size 12 for women in the 50's and I still think it is a good size to be. Now it is considered morbidly obese. Sad. Good hub.

I would love to be a plus size model Jealous
Jim Bauer on December 18, 2009:
My wife is plus-sized, and while she's been so for all of her life, she does sometimes get down on herself for it. I can understand where she comes from. But I always make it a point to remind her that she is a very beautiful woman, and that I love her without condition. And I personally think she's the MOST beautiful woman in the world...course, I probably do have some bias. :)
I'll be bringing her by here for some encouragement. And thanks for the hub.
bill yon from sourcewall on December 17, 2009:
bretya I know where you're coming from,I'm 6'3 and I have to buy triple X large in shirts and jackets just to get the sleeves to fit right.
bretya crane on December 17, 2009:
I always find it difficult buying trousers. They always seem to be longer than my height which is under 5.5. I have to have them altered. I wish designers would use models of all shapes and sizes as they consider all people to be the same size and height.
We are not all perfect and clothes ought to be modled by all persons irrespective of their appearance.
cini143 on December 17, 2009:
these are really very sexy..........
mosaicman from Tampa Bay, Fl on December 16, 2009:

bill yon from sourcewall on December 16, 2009:
must men like women with curves and meat on their bones, that skinny thing is a fashion thing I guess,I like big women and petite women tall and short.
Mortgagestar1 from Weirton,West Virginia on December 16, 2009:
These are REAL women. I have dated women of all sizes, shapes, colors, ect.... I find full figured women intriguing in the sense which they show confidence and great humor. Everyone of these ladies would be a show stopper and a trophy gal pal. Beauty is transcended in so many ways!
khmohsin on December 16, 2009:
I think so girls are all beautiful but when we think about a model there should be a smart, having good figure and a unique look, in your collection of pictures some beauties are fat...but overall good work.
Nicola Mo on December 15, 2009:
I am a size 18 and would like to go down to a 16 and keep my curves. Just the way my hubby likes me. Great hub and I will be back

TheSablirab on December 12, 2009:
Good job! Looking at some of the pictures, I am struck by how skinny (although not skinny skinny), some are and saddened that they are considered plus-size.
Makes me want to venture into plus size modeling.
bozzie123 on December 12, 2009:
some are nice, im a little bit shallow at heart, as bad as it sounds :/ i do like skinny girls, probably cause im skinny myself lol
Tamarind on December 11, 2009:
I think that men really do like women who have curves over skinny with no butt and stuff. I wish that society found all sizes of women attractive. Nice Hub.

my fiancé is 5'1..how about some SHORT models-She could be one!
dmyers7us on December 03, 2009:
In my twenties I was definitely very body conscious but as I've gotten older I'm a lot more comfortable with myself. I used to be a scale junkie but now as long as I'm comfortable and like how I look I don't worry too much about it what I weigh. We should love the bodies we inhabit without worrying about what others think. If you're healthy, happy and confident about yourself then that's sexy.
successfulblogger from Los Angeles,Ca on December 03, 2009:

I dated a guy for a few years that was constantly on me over my weight. I wouldn't have it any longer so I dumped him. But luckily a good MALE friend of mine jumped in his face, and said "I can take her out, and I guarentee that she will NOT have a problem with meeting men, she never has" and it shut him up... but for awhile. Glad he's not making me feel bad about myself any longer, and it feels great when men are still asking me out, and giving me plenty of attention. But I have chosen to stay single just because it's great to have the attention, and not a label of "that overweight girl." Great hub, thanks for posting! This hub is a great help for those of us girls with low self esteem because of men programmed to rail thin girls! :)
Pachuca213 on December 03, 2009:
As my dad used to joke "meat is for men, bone is for dogs"....I have to agree. I am a woman so I don't know exactly how mens minds think, but I think that MOST men would probably have no idea these women are PLUS size...they look like beautiful, curvaceous women. I think gramon1 said it in the other hub, that the skinny idea came from the men who don't necessarily have in interest in women, if you know what I mean. So who are they to decide what is sexy and what is not? Good hub! From one former-model who knows, I think this was another great hub!
Carlos Martins from Lisbon, Portugal on December 03, 2009:

Rik Ravado from England on November 29, 2009:
I agree that 'well rounded' is what most men want in women. Guys like curves. The whole skinny thing seems to be more to do with women's own self image - So bring on real, meaty, well rounded women. That's what men want!
sutrapu from kuwait on November 21, 2009:
oh! excellent and gorgeous.
Karen on November 19, 2009:
I've always been a fan of plus-size models! There's a great site with many images of Christina, Kate, Crystal, and other plus-size models here:
They're all gorgeous.
The site's forum also has thought-provoking discussions about body image and the media.
Jonathan Janco from Southport, CT on November 19, 2009:
Kate Dillon is so gorgeous it's absurd.
wesleycox from Back in Texas, at least until August 2012 on November 19, 2009:
I dunno, I kind of fail to see where the plus size thing is. These women are beautiful and they look healthy which is a bigger turn on for 95% of men than stick girls are.
