Rahul is a TV addict who can never get enough of good shows. His all-time favorites are 'The Wire', 'Breaking Bad', and 'The Sopranos.'
Netflix and Marvel have hit it off pretty well. With Shows like Jessica Jones and Daredevil out within a short interval, it’s pretty clear that Marvel is betting big on the streaming giant.
Update - They've added shows like Luke Cage and The Punisher to an already-impressive roaster.
First of all, if you haven’t already watched Jessica Jones, you should do it right now! Ever since it has landed quietly on Netflix, it has taken everyone by surprise. Regardless of your taste in TV shows, I think you’re going to like Jessica Jones – A show that is much more than just a superhero beating the crap out of bad guys. There is a lot more at stake.
Once you are done binge-watching it, it’s only fitting to look for more TV series like/similar to Jessica Jones. Being a huge fan, I have compiled a list of some other similar TV series. Let’s take a look -
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The world has changed after the event of Avengers one. People don’t know anything about the threats looming around the corner. That’s where agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. come in – an elite covert team with special abilities, who can deal with alien threats.
Those who still hate on this show either gave up watching in the beginning or just doing it for the sake of it. Do yourself a favor, and ignore all the negativity surrounding this TV show. The last few episodes of the 2nd season had me standing up and yelling at my TV screen. With so many jaw-dropping moments off late, there is no doubt that 3rd season is only going to be better. This show is worth investing your time in.
I never understood what people don’t like about it. Yes, the first few episodes were not up to the mark, but things picked up pace pretty soon. And once it does, it never lets up, leading to an exciting first season finale.
The second is where the real fun is though. If you can make it past the first few episodes, you’d love what this superhero show has to offer. I think it’s one of the most underrated TV shows like Jessica Jones.
Daredevil - One of the best TV shows like Jessica Jones
A lawyer at daytime and vigilante at nights – this is the daily routine of Matt Murdock, a blind guy who has superhuman senses that helps him fight bad guys. The justice is delivered, not only as a lawyer, but also as a vigilante. How long before all this begins taking toll on him and things spiral out of control? This is the question he asks himself every day as he deals with his own demons.
In contrast to TV shows like Jessica Jones, Daredevil is darker and often suffocating to experience. But this is what sets it apart from other Marvel series. It’s much more than a bland action TV show – there is a lot more at stake. Our hero is flawed. He not only has to save the city, but himself as well.
One of the greatest strengths of this series is its availability on a streaming platform, allowing it to be more creative with its storytelling. You don’t have to wait for an episode to air every other week. Just binge-watch it as and when you want.
And incredible cast, masterful direction, and a strong storyline, all combine to make this show one of the best action shows airing on TV right now. Highly recommended!
Marvel's Agent Carter
If you’re asking what this show is doing here, then it’s pretty clear that you don’t know enough about it. Fret not. A lot of people don’t even know about it. This is why I’m here – to introduce you to one of the most exciting and confident shows like Jessica Jones that also started airing this year.
Apart from the amazing production values, a tight storyline and an exciting, confident heroine, cements Agent’s Carter’s place as one of the best shows to come out in 2015. A bit of cyberpunk, sci-fi, and tons of action – there is a lot to love about this show.
Arrow - One of the most popular TV shows like Jessica Jones
Arrow tells the story of a spoiled rich boy, who goes missing for 5 years When he comes back to civilization after a long haul, he is not the same man. A spoiled playboy has turned vigilante. Armed with a bow, he vows to clean up his city.
The first 2 seasons are solid piece of entertainment. However, the 3rd season can be a bit of a slow-burn as it focuses more on the morality and humanity of our protagonist than the jaw-dropping action. It’s still miles better than other brain-dead shows out there, just not on par with the drama we’re used to from this action series. However, with 4th season just around the corner, there is hope that things are going to pick up in this season.
Legends Of Tomorrow – An upcoming TV show like Jessica Jones
Scheduled to air this January, the details are scarce about this TV show. Apart from a few trailers and some plot details, we still don’t know much about it.
What we know about it is it’s going to be one hell of a show. CW’s The Flash and Arrow are already two amazing shows on their own. When you combine these two, and add a few more heroes and villains, there is nothing stopping it from being a blast.
The plot revolves around a few superheroes and villains, who come together to save the world from an impending apocalypse. This is not about the mini-fights between heroes and villains anymore. It’s a question of saving not only this world, but the running of time.
If anything,, the crossovers between the Flash And Arrow have already proved how amazing can this idea e. And to have them all fighting for a common cause, it’s only going to attract even larger audience. It’s going to be interesting to see how villains and superheroes work it out. The jaw-dropping action, funny banters, sci-fi and romance, it’s going to have it all.
The Flash - A new show like Jessica Jones
Remember Berry Allen? The quirky, cute guy that was introduced to us in the TV show Arrow? If you do, you probably remember the freak accident that happened with him.
He wakes up 9 months after the incident to find out that he is the fastest guy on the earth. But he is not the only one who has gained some superpowers. A lot of others were affected by that lighting 9 months ago. Armed with his new power, he decides to take on the crime in his city, fighting both natural and supernatural forces.
Some people prefer Arrow over The Flash and others do the opposite. It all boils down to your preference. Compared to Arrow, The Flash is the lighter and more refreshing story of a boy turned a superhero. The excitement and urgency stems from his persona as he throws himself in the role of a vigilante.
This series has found a way to engage its audience with weekly procedural events, typing them up in some way with the whole plotline. Overall, The Flash is the lighter and ore exciting look at the superhero genre. If you’re looking for some good TV shows like Jessica Jones, The Flash is ready to welcome you to DC’s universe.
Heroes Reborn tells the story of some people with extraordinary abilities, who are forced to hide their abilities as they’re blamed for the terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas.
Don’t pay attention to the negative vibes around this show. Watch it with an open heart. You’d love what this series has to offer.
Teen Wolf – An underrated TV show like Jessica Jones
In a world where werewolves, vampires and other supernatural creatures exist, survival is the only thing that matters. When a teenager with a normal life is bitten by a werewolf, his life takes a different turn. Slowly but surely, he begins to learn that powers comes with responsibility, and leaving a double life is not as easy.
Only show in this list that is not about fighting crimes. It’s not a superhero show, but Teen Wolf is similar to TV shows like Jessica Jones in more than one way. Give it a chance.
With superhero shows popping out left and right so frequently, I must’ve missed out on quite a few of them. “Supergirl”, for example, is pretty good. At least, this is what I’ve heard. Since I’m yet to give it a go, I haven’t included it in my list. Same goes for the other shows I haven’t watched. If you think I missed out on a really good show, let me know in the comments section.
