Networks and Cable
While the television networks and cable stations try to maintain their audience numbers, new and hot series are coming and going no matter what we like. It is the age of streaming. We can binge-watch to our heart's content. Netflix launches a new season of Stranger Things, and pow, all nine episodes are available. No more weekly viewing. It just streams as we please.
Sure. Sure. Some cable shows can stream with an app, like Starz, but continue with the weekly rotation like Outlander or Games of Thrones. Though, the user can see the latest episode earlier than cable subscribers.
If the viewers are low, the program is gone. If the figures are high, the show continues. Some cable TV shows we are familiar with and some we are not familiar with live first seasons to present time like Friends and Gossip Girl. You can take a look at what to expect in streaming from the past to the present.
What is cool about streaming is you missed any of these shows before or after cancelation, you can watch them on-demand, Netflix, or Amazon. Even if they are still uncanceled, you can still catch past seasons or episodes on the streaming sites.
Who: Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, and Finn Wolfhard
What: Stranger Things brought binge-watching to a whole new level of entertainment. The large cast is quite talented. The Netflix series won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series that speaks well of the casting.
Let's not forget about the story. It focuses on the unbelievable idea of an upside-down world during the 1980s when kids had more freedom to play on the streets because it was safer.
Creators and directors Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer spin a tale about a young boy who disappears. Trying to rescue him from horrific circumstances, his mother, friends, and the police chief face terrifying forces.
The series success brought season 2 with rave reviews and now season 3 after a foreboding shot of the upside-down world at the very end of the second season. The production signed up for season 4. I wonder which holiday theme they will use this time around.
Who: Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Duncan Lacroix, Tobias Menzies, John Bell, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin
An international bestseller turned into a nine-book series and is now a cable TV series on Starz. Follow Sam Heughan on Twitter and Facebook, and you see the outlandish chemistry between Sam and Caitriona Balfe as Jamie and Claire, Oche!
The tale follows Claire Randall, a 1945 married combat nurse who takes a step back to 1743. Her life in Scotland's unknown world spins and threatens her, but the love scenes are hot, hot, and hot.
The show is filming their fifth season with a growing cast, and soon Claire and Jamie will share the limelight among the increasing cast of Frazer's Ridge.
Who: Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, and Timothy Dalton
What: Penny Dreadful is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama.
Penny Dreadful is running on Showtime. We have the once James Bond, Timothy Dalton, Josh Hartnett, and Eva Green starring in this frightening tale of a psychological, intense thriller of classic horror stories weaved into an adult drama.
"The Normal Heart"
Who: Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons, Julia Roberts, and Taylor Kitsch
What: The Normal Heart speaks of the inception of the HIV-AIDS crisis in The Big Apple during the early 1980s. Julia Roberts stars in the series with Mark Ruffalo, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons, and Matt Bomer.
Anyone alive during this time will appreciate the undertaking of the tale about sexual politics. The gay activists, along with their endearing allies, joined forces in the medical community. Fighting for lives drives an amazingly told story. The series is no longer in production, but you can stream it on HBO.
Who: John Malkovich, Yasmine Al Masri, Richard Coyle, Claire Foy, Chris Perfetti, David Hoflin, and Tracy Ifeachor
What: NBC brings us Crossbones. The tale begins in 1729 on an island, Santa Compana, few have ventured. Edward Teach, a Blackbeard notorious and barbarous, leads a group of thieves, miscreants, and outlaws. The shantytown is a true looter’s paradise and seen as a utopia, like no other place on earth.
NBC canceled the show, but you can find it streaming at regular outlets.
Who: Justin Theroux and Amy Brenneman
What: How would you like to be a Leftover when 2% of the world's population unexpectedly disappears without clarification? That’s what happens in The Leftovers. Starring Amy Brenneman and Justine Theroux, the planet suffers trying to grasp the situation.
If you are one of the Leftovers, you didn’t make the grade. Remind you of school? The new drama series The Leftovers is the story of the people who didn't cut it.
Who: Halle Barry, Camryn Manheim, Pierce Gagnon, and Tyler Hilton
What: Steven Spielberg is the executive producer of Extant, and Berry gets to be an astronaut. She returns home after a year-long solo mission in space.
She struggles to reconnect with her son and husband. Her trials and tribulations in space and arriving home shift the direction of human history. The TV show lasted one year, but it is streaming.
"I Wanna Marry Harry"
Who: Matt Hicks and producer Ryan Seacrest
What: With Harry married and a father, anyone's daughter marrying Harry is not going to happen. The show is no longer around, but you might find it streaming.
The show does not feature the real Harry, by the way. Still, love is in the air, and why not round up 12 single women, who are American, and give them nothing but the royal treatment in Merry Old England.
The process doesn't go without makeovers and longing to be regal. It didn't last on the airwaves, but you might catch it streaming.
