Synth Single Review: "Synthetic Dreams" by eLxAr

Karl is a longtime freelancer who's passionate about music, art, and writing.

eLxAr’s Synthetic Dreams has an ethereal, floating quality to it along with anexpressive sax performance by Ville Söderbaum. The track begins as the soft rush of air is joined by wide open, sweeping synths that float in the background with a spaced out spoken word part about dreams and their power.

A distant, mournful synth carries an aching melody and while the steady throb of the beat and a bursting oscillation of bass move below. An elevated, softly moving synth line slips along while the spoken word part comes in again, feeling as dreamy as its words.

Gentle, high, chiming synth drifts out airily over the throbbing depths and now Ville Söderbaum’s expressive, reedy sax cries out, jazzy but pained. The sax’s rich voice is impassioned and full of warm life and hopeful sound. It cries out, living with the breath that propels the music as it all fades into silence.
