Synth Single Review: "Staring Up From Nothing" by Network Nick

Network Nick’s Staring Up From Nothing feels mournful, subtly unsettling and bereft. The track begins with sweeping bass and medium-low synth notes that drop in a bleak line into an vast feeling, empty audio space. Distorted vocal sounds come in along with a distant, gentle piano that feels bereft and broken. Breakbeat percussion adds propulsion underneath the lost, fragile piano as digital-sounding synth pulses add more low-end weight.

Vocal sounds twist and repeat hypnotically, feeling unsettling and the bass rumbles in a sweeping, shifting line. Distantly falling notes contribute to the painful emotion in the music. Full, medium-high synths are joined by echoing metallic chimes and the aching, repeating piano line. The drums stutter in again while the writhing, uncomfortable vocal sounds move. The broken beats keep up their propulsion while higher, hurting synth floats out along with sweeping bass and high metallic chimes into silence.
