Synth Single Review: "Illumination" by Red Skies Project

Red Skies Project’s Illumination has a deep sense of wistful emotion that fills the music over a powerful bass and drum backdrop. The track begins with a tape popped into the cassette deck, crackling static and a warm but distorted piano. The piano carries an aching note pattern that is joined by the steady, deep bass oscillation and hard-hitting drums. The wandering melody, full of melancholy and wistful feeling drifts through while the throbbing bass heartbeat continues.

The piano grows deeper as a constant synth shimmer goes on all around it in starlit sparkles. The main melody is emotional and full of aching depth. The beat and deep bass oscillation guide the delicate melodic line. Clouds of diffuse light rise from the spinning arpeggios that slowly whirl like galactic arms. The continual shimmer of distant light now fades to the deep, distorted piano and crackling bending into silence as the tape ends.
