Songs of the Week That Have Wednesday in Them
I'm continuing my hub series where I write a hub each day about songs that use one of the days of the week in their title. This hub is on songs that have "Wednesday" in their titles. The offerings here again contain a few better known acts like Simon & Garfunkel and Lisa Loeb; along with a few lesser known bands like Inspiral Carpets and Fischerspooner. Plus a band I've grown to absolutely love, the Crash Kings. None of these "Wednesday" songs made the Top 100 charts either. I'm only taking on five songs per hub so I might have missed yours. If I have, please let me know what your favorite "Wednesday song" is in the comments section.
If you would be so kind to vote in the poll as well... it would be much appreciated!
Wednesday Morning 3am - Simon & Garfunkel
Album:
Wednesday Morning 3am
Artist:
Simon & Garfunkel
Composer:
Paul Simon
Release Date:
October 19, 1964
Highest Rating:
none
Wednesday Morning 3am is a track off of Simon & Garfunkels first album of the same name. The album was initially not received well but re-released in 1966 after the duo had gained more success and then it managed to reach #30 on the album charts. The album shows Simon & Garfunkels folk leanings.
The song is soft and beautiful as you'd expect from Paul Simon but the words tell a different story. As morning draws near the man in the story remorses about the woman laying asleep by him and how this will be the last he sees of her - he plans to leave her in the morning. This is because the day before he'd robbed a liquor store for twenty five dollars and some change!
The song ends with the lyrics:
My life seems unreal,
My crime an illusion,
A scene badly written
In which I must play.
Yet I know as I gaze
At my young love beside me,
The morning is just
a few hours away.
Waiting for Wednesday - Lisa Loeb
Album:
Tails
Artist:
Lisa Loeb
Composer:
Lisa Loeb
Release Date:
September 26, 1995
Highest Rating:
none
"Waiting for Wednesday" received some airplay off of the "Tails" album but none of her songs on the album reached the success of her hit "Stay (I Missed) You" (video included below the comments section). Loeb's big break came from Ethan Hawke, the actor - he lived near Loeb in New York City and they were introduced by mutual friends. Hawke introduced her song "Stay (I Missed You) to Ben Stiller and he put it in the ending credits of his film "Reality Bites". Lisa Loeb is involved in charity work, including her own charity called The Camp Lisa Foundation which helps underprivileged kids attend summer camps and other related activities.
I have to admit I'm not familiar with the song "Waiting for Wednesday" but it seems to be a breakup song. Her boyfriend and her seem to have a meeting and either he is going to break up with her or force her to decide something she doesn't want to decide. Her stomach hurts and she says "you put me on the spot" in the lyrics. If someone has a better understanding of this song feel free to explain it in the comments. A nice song though and a worthy contender for my favorite Wednesday song.
Wednesday - Fischerspooner
Album:
Odyssey
Artist:
Fischerspooner
Composer:
Warren Fischer
Casey Spooner
Release Date:
April 5, 2005
Highest Rating:
none
Fischerspooner is duo who formed in 1998 and consists of Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner. They have a techno sound called electroclash which is a combination of new wave and electronica dance music. This song is definitely one you should listen to with the head phones on. A catchy techno beat if you ask me but not very complicated lyrics. Why is the song called Wednesday? No idea.
Lyrics:
Double it
Double it
Double it
I feel like I‘m still there
I feel like I‘m still there
I feel like I‘m there
It's Only Wednesday - Crash Kings
Album:
Crash Kings
Artist:
Crash Kings
Composer:
Tony Beliveau
Mike Beliveau
Jason Morris
Release Date:
May 26, 2009
Highest Rating:
none
Crash Kings is a Los Angeles trio who formed in 2006. Their hit song "Mountain Men" from their self-titled album reached number one (included below comments section). I had not heard of this band before I started writing this Wednesday songs hub but I absolutely adore them. Their energy, sound and lyrics are truly impressive and I'd expect us all to be hearing much more about this band. A great stumble upon moment for me.
Lyrics:
It happens only
in the day time,
she looks to me and says,
but it's only
in the nighttime ohhh
She pulls me
closer to her body,
so I can hear
There's a kink
and then a scream,
but it's only in her dream
I look around
and its you, oh oh ohhh
I can't believe
it's only Wednesday.
And she can't see that
everyone is there
Except for me
I know I
Don't want to lose
this time
Out of knowledge
in a way form
passing through her head
as it spins out of
life and time
She keeps on trying
to fight the evil
in her mind
There's a kink and
then a scream,
but it's only in her dream
I look around
and its you, oh oh ohhh
I can't believe
it's only Wednesday.
And she can't see
that everyone is there
Except for me
I know I
Don't want to lose this time
And she looks to me,
but she can't even believe it
And she looks to me,
but she can't even believe it
she can't even believe it
she can't even believe it
but I don't want to lose this time
There's a kink and then a scream,
but it's only in her dream
I look around
and its you, oh oh ohhh
I can't believe it's only Wednesday.
And she can't see that everyone is there
Except for me
I know I
Don't want to lose this time
Inspiral Carpets - Just Wednesday
Just Wednesday - Inspiral Carpets
Album:
Devil Hopping
Artist:
Inspiral Carpets
Composer:
Inspiral Carpets
Release Date:
March 1994
Highest Rating:
none
Inspiral Carpets is an English band that formed in 1983 by Graham Lambert and Stephen Holt. They enjoyed moderate success, especially in the UK from 1983-1995, most notably in the Manchester area where they hailed from. They had over a dozen top 50 hits in the UK during that time span.
Lyrics:
Never had a day when I pretended
I loved all the things in life we blended
And yes sometimes my bad rhymes are intended, forgive my way
I'll write my plea down here, and then I'll send it
I'll try to keep this brief, please don't end it
On knee that is well and truly bended, forgive my way
MAYBE IT WAS MY FAULT ALL ALONG
'CAUSE I'M CONSTANTLY TALKING IN PICTURES AND SONG
FOR ANYONE ELSE THIS WOULD BE
THE BEST DAYS OF HIS LIFETIME, BUT NOT FOR ME
IT'S JUST WEDNESDAY, OR SOME OTHER DAY, FORGIVE MY WAY
I dreamed I saw a million people dancing
To some tune me and someone else were chanting
I woke in time to hear the front door slamming, fly away
The message which you left me is still playing
I sit and listen to the words you're saying
I even had to put a brand new tape on my answer machine
MAYBE IT WAS MY FAULT ALL ALONG
'CAUSE I'M CONSTANTLY TALKING IN PICTURES AND SONG
FOR ANYONE ELSE THIS WOULD BE
THE BEST DAYS OF HIS LIFETIME, BUT NOT FOR ME
IT'S JUST WEDNESDAY, OR SOME OTHER DAY, FORGIVE MY WAY
IT'S JUST WEDNESDAY, OR SOME OTHER DAY
FORGIVE MY WAY, FORGIVE MY WAY
Songs of the Week Series

Hello Hello. I love the song but its title is "She's Leaving Home" which doesn't have Wednesday in the title... which had been the point of the series... that the day was in the title BUT if I had been going for in the song period then I certainly would agree that song would top the list. Sounds like a good hub series for you to write, eh? I wish I would've titled my series a bit more descriptively now though. Like "Song Titles that have Days of the Week in them". Too late now!
However, the intro to this piece did say, "I'm continuing my hub series where I write a hub each day about songs that use one of the days of the week in their title." Where I do specify the day needs to be in the title.
Thanks for the comment still!
