Songs of the Week That Have Friday in Them

  • Author:
  • Updated date:

I'm continuing my hub series where I write a hub each day about songs that use one of the days of the week in their title. This hub is on songs that have "Friday" in their titles. From SKA to alternative to rap, the Friday offerings run the full gambit of performances and musical styles. I'm only taking on five songs per hub so I might have missed yours. If I have, please let me know what your favorite "Friday song" is in the comments section.

If you would be so kind to vote in the poll as well... it would be much appreciated!

Friday Night - Lily Allen

Album: Alright, StillArtist: Lily AllenComposer:Lily AllenPablo CookJonny BullRelease Date: July 14, 2006Highest Rating:

Friday night is a track of off Lily Allen's debut album "Alright, Still".  The album won a Grammy for Best Alternative Album and has gone triple platinum.  The style of music Allen is known for now, more of an electronica dance sound is not seen in this first album which instead shows influences from reggae and ska.  Lily Allen has been known for her Internet presence, releasing many of her songs on MySpace before releasing them as commercial singles.  She has also been involved in numerous celebrity controversies.  Possibly as a result, Lily announce in 2010 that she would be taking a break from the music industry to pursue an acting career.

Friday night last orders at the pub,
Get in the car and drive to the club,
There's a massive crowd outside so we get in to the queue
It's quarter past 11 now we won't get in till quarter to two.

It's quarter to and we get to the front,
Girl on a guest list dressed like a c***
She asked security to check inside my shoes,
You can play this game with me but you know you're gonna lose.

Looked me up and down,
I don't make a sound,
There's a lesson that I want you to learn,
If you're gonna play with fire then you're gonna get burned,

Don't try to test me cos you'll get reaction,
Another drink and I'm ready for action,
I don't know who you think you are,
But making people scared wont get you very far.

In the club make our way to the bar,
Good dancing love but you should have wore a bra.
Guy on the mike and he's making too much noise,
There's these girls in the corner wanting attention from the boys.

I see these girls and they're shouting through the crowd,
Don't understand why they're being really loud.
They make their way over to me,
They try to push me out the way,
I'll push her back, she looks at me and says,
What you tryna say?

Friday - Bowling for Soup

Album: Rock on Honorable Ones!Artist: Bowling for SoupComposer:Jarret ReddickRelease Date: May 3, 2005Highest Rating:

Friday is a cut off of Bowling for Soup's second album. Like Lily Allen's Friday offering, it is highly influenced by a Ska sound but this is the only album where Bowling for Soup included a horn section which is the staple for Ska. After this album the group went to more of a pop/punk style of music. Bowling for Soup is probably best known for their "1985" song, which I've included below the comments section.

Tuesday seemed like it was thursday
Yesterday I came back down
Standing there
Just like the fool I know I'd become
I realize that I'm aware

Once again I see the sunshine
Yeah, and
I wipe the sleep out of my eyes
Well I wake up
To find the world has not stopped turning
And I
And I am gonna be alright

And I lost way too much in you
Now I don't know what to do
Oh, Oh, Oh
I broke down
Just like I have so times before
Now I see that nothing has changed
Oh, Oh, Oh
And lately things
Have turned around back where they were before
And I got too much on my mind

Friday, I'm in Love - The Cure

Album: WishArtist: The CureComposer:The CureRelease Date: May 11, 1992Highest Rating:

#18(US), #6(UK)

"Friday, I'm in Love" is the second single off of The Cure's ninth album, "Wish". It is considered the band's most well known hit and was its last Top 40 hit. It received a Grammy nomination as well as winning the 1992 European MTV Viewer's Choice Award. The final released version is faster than originally intended due to The Cure's lead singer (Robert Smith) toying around with the recording instruments just prior to recording it. The band liked the fast version and so they kept it as the version we know on the radio or in the video. When played live, The Cure uses the slower originally intended version.

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday I'm in love

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate...

I don't care if Mondays black
Tuesday, Wednesday - heart attack
Thursday, never looking back
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday, you can hold your head
Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed
Or Thursday - watch the walls instead
It's Friday, I'm in love

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate...

Dressed up to the eyes
It's a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a sheik
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It's Friday, I'm in love

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday I'm in love

Black Friday - Steely Dan

Album: Katy LiedArtist: Steely DanComposer:Donald FagenWalter BeckerRelease Date: March, 1975Highest Rating:

"Black Friday" is a hit song off of Steely Dan's fourth album, "Katy Lied".  Known as perfectionists in the recording studio, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker were unhappy with the "Katy Lied" recording due to malfunctions with the recording equipment.  Malfunctions that no one else seems to notice.  The album and the single are considered now some of the best examples of the Steely Dan sound and influence on 70's music.  Fagen and Becker had a well known dislike of the west coast hippie culture.  They stopped touring in the mid-70s and only recorded in the studio where they used a variety of other artists and performers.  Michael McDonald, for example, is heard doing background vocals on this album.  The pair split up in 1984 but reformed in 1993.  They've released two more studio albums since the reformation with much critical acclaim on the new work.

When Black Friday comes
I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men when they
Dive from the fourteenth floor
When Black Friday comes
I'll collect everything I'm owed
And before my friends find out
I'll be on the road
When Black Friday falls you know it's got to be
Don't let it fall on me
When Black Friday comes
I'll fly down to Muswellbrook
Gonna strike all the big red words
From my little black book
Gonna do just what I please
Gonna wear no socks and shoes
With nothing to do but feed
All the kangaroos
When Black Friday comes I'll be on that hill
You know I will

When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it 'til
I satisfy my soul
Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll
When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna stake my claim
I'll guess I'll change my name

Friday - Ice Cube

Album: Friday Original Motion Picture SoundtrackArtist: Ice CubeComposer:O'Shea Jackson (Ice Cube)Release Date: April 11, 1995Highest Rating:

"Friday" is a single off of the original motion picture soundtrack (various artists) of the monster hit movie "Friday" as performed by Ice Cube (O'Shea Jackson).  The movie was co-written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh.  Ice Cube started as a rapper but has expanded his talents to screen writing, acting and producing.  Starting from humble beginnings as a rapper for well-known groups like C.I.A. and N.W.A.  He then launched himself onto a mega-career as a solo rap music artist and in cinema/film.

Verse One:
You know it ain't no stoppin all tha doggs I'm droppin
it's Friday night so everythang is poppin.
I got skin lets spin on da hand,
so let tha games begin.
Yakity yak don't jump back or its on,
callin up Earl on tha car phone.
Mack 10 just got out of court,
rollin through tha hood in his super sport ropin Too $hort.
Eighteens got tha rearview mirrors vibratin,
and deep dish daytons.
You know how we do it,
ain't nuttin to it but tha floss,
overcrowdin Harrison walks.
'Cuz if ya fuck wit ours,
we leave scars,
out of G ride cars,
livin like stars.
Might hit tha highway,
on tha Vegas run fool 'cuz its Friday.

Oh yeah, throw ya neighborhood in tha air,
If ya don't care. [x2]

Verse Two:
Standin outside on a Friday livin on tha edge,
'cuz we all got 'dem hard heads.
It's seems like we all are waitin,
for a drive by playin tag wit satan.
But we chillin yeah we ready and willin,
ya hear about tha latest westside killin.
Forty sippin,
set trippin,
fo' dippin,
get tha grip in,
neva slippin.
BG's tryin tah hang out,
but OG said take ya little ass in tha house.
My big homey just got out,
used tah be down now he's just crack ad.
He's bout hard as Darth Vada
in his sweat shirt, khakis and Chuck Taylors.
Just see him in the driveway,
gettin beat like a smoka fool 'cuz it's Friday.

Verse Three:
Why must I be like dat and chase da cat,
or settle for a hoodrat.
Dookie braids no dreadlocks,
flyin in and out of jail have a chicken and a cock.
And I love her 'cuz she down,
tah fuck around wit tha underground pussyhound.
And her ass is big round and wide,
jacked up makin nigga down tah ride.
Smokin indo,
playin dat Super Nintendo,
hear a rat tat tat on my window.
Gave her ass dat pelvic thrust,
don't trust tha rubber 'cuz its bound tah bust.
In tha oven in tha nappy,
I had on two so I was happy.
'Cuz dat HIV'll make ya dick hang sideways,
and dat ain't cool fool 'cuz its Friday.

Throw tha west side in da air,
Throw tha east side in da air,
Throw tha south side in da air,
Throw tha north side in da air.
Oh yeah!

Yep, the Cure. I voted for that song too (dated myself as well) ;-)
