About the film

Shrek is your typical horrible looking, smelly and bad-mannered ogre that loves living his reclusive life in a swamp. So it's little wonder that he's annoyed when an army of fairytale characters turn up on his doorstep. Angered by this, Shrek demands to know what's going on. And they tell him that Lord Farquaad has banished them from their land. So Shrek and Donkey, who self-appoints himself as Shrek's new friend, travel to Duloc to visit Lord Farquaad and demand he takes them back.

While all this is going on, Lord Farquaad, who is King of Duloc, chooses Princess Fiona to be his new Queen and sets up a tournament to see who will win the fight, thus going on to rescue Princess Fiona from the castle and the dragon that's guarding it. Shrek eventually agrees to rescue her, with Donkey in tow who promised to guide him there. So thus begins the quest to rescue the princess. But he soon realises that living alone isn't all it's cracked up to be and gets feelings for Princess Fiona. This is going to throw a spanner in the works! Not only that, but there may be something about Princess Fiona that no one knows about. And, to put the icing on the cake, the dragon is getting feelings for Donkey.

My Thoughts

Ever since Shrek was released way back in 2001, I've always enjoyed watching it. I can't believe the film is 20 years old! I think this film is aimed at all ages. There's lines in there that the kids won't 'get'. Yes, there's plenty of Disney characters in the film they'll know and recognize. The animations throughout the film are so realistic. It's really quite funny seeing Farquaad as this short, yet arrogant and annoying King.

And the storyline I really enjoyed too. At the start of the film Shrek comes across as a typical ogre that loves living on his own, secluded in his swamp. He's not very scary though lol. That being said, we see a different side to him when he meets Princess Fiona in the castle. And as a side note, it's funny seeing romance blossoming between Donkey and the dragon. It's a very well-written film. I like the relationship between Shrek and Donkey too. Although Shrek tolerates him mostly, I think Donkey grows on him eventually. Although I think there's still a love/hate relationship between them. Donkey is annoying though, but cute.

All in all, I really enjoy watching this film, it's 10/10 from me. This film is available to watch on Netflix.
